AI Microsoft is asking 60,000 employees to leave, 1/3 of the company
What will happen when everyone can create software? When AI is getting better and better that software can be created in a few months, then a month, then a few weeks?
Well, the news of Microsoft today is what is about to happen to the entire Industry, or maybe one of the things that may happen.

Discussion Anthropic and OpenAI are holding back their best models
Currently OpenAI and Anthropic are holding back their best models. I expect maybe one more big release from both this year and that’s it. Expect next year we go months before anything other than small stuff. They’re gonna RSI inside the labs to super intelligence.
Any big leaps just be prepared for the job market to be shaken at each release at this point. Anyone I talk today no longer says it’s hype or bs the job impact is coming and nobody that says it’s not, is lying.
Cheap models can be even more impactful on the job situation than Astra or Fable. Cheap models that are powerful can seriously gut the job market. 2027/2028 is gonna be a hell of a time to be a white collar employee. I’d highly recommend having an emergency fund setup to help you through this transition and hopefully some sort of UBI is setup quickly. Get out of debt.
I’m very optimistic about the future and am bullish on Ai but the job prospects are quite concerning in the short term.

LLM News Mirendil announces Fern v0.1: Their first model with a 10M context window
They claim it was created with a single researcher and under $10 million spent on the model. Theyve only said that it is somewhere between 0.1 and 0.5T parameters in size. Benchmarks aren't super impressive, but they claim this is just the first very early checkpoint and that they also have two much larger models undergoing training right now.

AI what's next after smartphones
every big device had a successor. mainframes, desktops, laptops, phones. so something presumably comes after the phone.
but i can't tell what it is. glasses, something on your wrist, something you just talk to. each one has a catch.
so yeah, what's your guess? and what would the catch be?

AI AI might give more power to the people
Basically, we see how huge corporate apps are reverse engineered and made open source.
Emulators are faster because of it, there are working programs of popular proprietary software like Photoshop even.
With the advent of open weights which don't deny requests for unethical requests. People have more power than ever to completely own software or simply make whatever they want.
Big corporations have much lesser moat because the power of a building your own and reverse engineering popular ones are so much better now.
This makes me think, even popular software like Microsoft windows can be made open-source provided reverse engineering and recompiling gets that much better

AI the AI debate and WIldwood, or rather the lack thereof
I saw Wildwood this weekend. It was a great movie: a cinematic and animation achievement, 16 years in the making. It has a 100 on Rotten tomatoes, and it was quite good. Some people are calling it the greatest feat of animation ever. I thought it would spark a debate on AI and the use of it in VFX, or art and cinema. When Spiderman came out and there were rumors that AI was used in some way, and it came out right after the Odyssey, I thought maybe Doomsday and Spiderman would tank. I realized after that didn't happen...that this "debate" was over. It was a very small vocal group. The vast majority doesn't care. And even the anti AI side, is quietly using/learning it in the background. People will blame marketing or some such BS. Here in NZ, Spiderman had very little marketing. Aside from a few pre movie trailers. It just popped up, and killed it... And "You Can See Everything" had a 1 min shot of two people talking online, and yet I cant find tickets anywhere, it sold out almost immediately. At least for the first few days of its run. If people cared, they'd know about it.
So I think this AI in VFX / Animation debate' is either overblown and/or nobody really cares. It's early so things may change, and Wildwood may have legs, but I'm guessing that it will bomb based on the first weekend numbers. Anyway, just my two cents... that somewhere a few months back, the AI in animation/VFX debate quietly ended, and collectively we turned a corner to face whatever this future holds.
