[Transportation] Does anyone know why I-295 N was closed for most of the afternoon today?
I live in Greenbelt and it took me 3+ hours to get home from Northern VA today (usually a 40-45 min drive at 2 pm!) due to I-295 N being completely closed. When I searched online there wasn’t much info, and I didn’t see an accident when we were forced to exit the highway. Anyone know what happened?

[Discussion] Is Embassy Row trick or treating happening this year?
I did some googling but I couldn't find any confirmation so I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything. I did read that in years past when Halloween was on a weekend they'd do it the day before, so is it better to plan for going on Friday?

[Discussion] What’s your take on tipping in DC?
I recently moved here and expected higher restaurant prices based on dc being a big city but I think the tipping culture here is just kinda insane to me.
If I’m not wrong servers are making $10.30 an hour and yet places will include a 20% tip and a 3-5% service fee for that wage increase. Of course, the plates are still 25-30$ or even more for a more high end place so it’s not like it’s reducing or included in the price of the dishes.
I’ve worked service industry all my life getting paid $2.15 an hour and I will continue tipping 20% in those states and circumstances because that is genuinely unlivable otherwise. However I just think it’s wild to tip 20% on top of 10$ an hour, a living wage fee and city prices to a person making that much off wage alone.
What are your opinions on this? Have you reduced how much you tip after the law change? What is your justification for doing so or not doing so? I’m debating tipping lower at places that don’t already include that 20%.

[Discussion] How to start composting?
I live in a rowhouse in NW DC (so no backyard and no car) and am looking to start composting all my food waste because our house produces a lot. I've seen composting bins around the city that you can enter a passcode to use. Is there a central composting resource? Does the city hand out individual bins for single apartments to collect our compost first?

[Discussion] Michigan IT Professional Looking to Relocate to the DC/Northern Virginia/Maryland Area – Job Advice or Leads?
Hi everyone!
I'm currently living and working in Michigan, but I'm actively looking to relocate to Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, or the surrounding Maryland area.
I recently visited the D.C. area and really enjoyed my time there. After exploring D.C. and some of the surrounding communities, I'm even more interested in making the area my permanent home.
I'm hoping to secure an IT position before relocating and would appreciate any advice or recommendations from people familiar with the local job market.
A little about my background:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity (4.0 GPA)
- Associate degree in IT Infrastructure/Cybersecurity
- Currently employed as a Technical Support Technician I
- Hands-on experience with Windows troubleshooting, Microsoft 365, hardware/software support, network connectivity troubleshooting, printers, and audiovisual/conference room technology
- Previous supervisory and leadership experience
- Six years of military service in the Army National Guard (Military Police)
I'm primarily interested in IT Support, Desktop Support, IT Technician, Help Desk, and entry-level cybersecurity positions. I'm also open to other IT opportunities that align with my education and experience.
I've already applied to positions in the region and plan to continue applying. I'm flexible about where I live within the greater D.C. metropolitan area, including Northern Virginia and nearby Maryland communities.
I'd especially appreciate recommendations for companies that are hiring, government contractors, organizations worth applying to, or recruiters who work with IT professionals.
If anyone has made a similar move from another state, I'd also love to hear about your experience finding an IT job before relocating.
I'm serious about making the move and would be ready to relocate once I secure the right opportunity.
Thanks in advance for any advice, recommendations, or leads!

[Discussion] Anyone have any experience with changing their house address in DC?
Our place is on a corner and we have changed the “front” of the house from one street to the other.
There’s a DC Gov’t process for changing your address. I’m wondering if there are any hidden pitfalls or hassles, other than the obvious inconveniences.

[Discussion] Duct Cleaning Recs
I've seen a handful of posts on here about general HVAC recommendations. I am finding that they often don't do the duct work itself.
We desperately need our ducts themselves cleaned after buying a home that was poorly maintained, dusty & had construction done.
Has anyone had a positive experience and have an estimated cost for DUCT CLEANING specifically?
We have a 1000 sqft home in Hill East. 7 vents connected to ducts. One unit.

[Discussion] Celeb outside Yellow yesterday afternoon
I was out walking around the neighborhood yesterday afternoon, and made the mistake of getting myself caught in sidewalk traffic in front of Yellow in Georgetown. In addition to the normal nice weather line at Yellow, there were folks asking for photos with a guy who happened to be leaning against the jersey barrier right there. People around me were saying "I didn't recognize him at first" and "My brother is gonna be so jealous".
I'm just curious if anyone was there and knew who the heck the dude was. The quick glance I took, he kinda sorta looked like Jon Bernthal from The Punisher movies.

[Discussion] Tree of heaven removal
Got an assessment for a house im looking to buy and there is a gigantic ToH right in the back yard. Issue is that part of it is also in the neighbor’s yard but theyd have to cut through the fence to get to it. Neighbor’s place looks unmaintained for the most part, it’s like a junkyard back there so not sure if it’s worth talking to them about it. Ultimately im fine with the cost of take the whole thing out, those lantern flies freak me out!
Also, the tree professionals I’ve spoken to unfortunately will not do the hack and squirt method, they just grind to a stump but even then, cannot grind the entire stump due to part of it being in the neighbor’s yard on the other side of their fence. Not really sure how to handle this because I dont want the tree sprouts coming up even more. My yard is small so I can find the sprouts and poison them as they come up I guess. Any suggestions?
