Banner Image(s)

A subreddit looks pretty boring without a banner. I'd like to either have a nice mash-up of iconic buildings and locations in a single image, or an /r/askscience-style rotating banner.

If you have any photographs that you own the rights to, or can find anything copyright-free that could be used, please let me know in the comments!

Black Country Musicians wanted!! Please read

I’m 24 and a singer / guitarist and song writer based in Shropshire atm. Looking for guitarists, lead and rhythm potentially as I’d rather just sing, and a class drummer too.

I’ve been working on a full length album for a couple of years now, I have demos of everything so far, about 5 or 6 tracks pretty much done and a few others that need buttoning up or reworking. Aiming for 12 ish

Influences for me are all over the place, the music is quite political, left wing, anti capitalist, anti authoritarian kinda vibe. Rage against the machine, fontaines dc, twenty one pilots, royal blood, highly suspect. Bit of a spectrum

I need some super dedicated and rly talented people so I might just be screaming into a void rn but if you feel like you fit the bill please message. Or if you know anyone who might be interested please send them this post.

I can send some demos for you to hear the sound!

West Midlands County Thoughts on renaming the West Midlands

Appreciate with everything going on in the world this is quite a way down the list of important things, but it’s been over 40 years now and it feels like we’re no closer to a distinct regional identity we can put out to the world (that isn’t just dominated by Birmingham) than we were back then. And with a zeitgeist swing that seems interested in regional identities, now could be a good time to make a pitch.

Firstly, the reason Greater Birmingham seems destined to fail is the same reason Greater Manchester will never absorb Liverpool. Solihull, Coventry and the Black Country all have proud distinct historic identities that have nothing to do with Birmingham.

Historically counties were often named for the county town, but Birminghamshire (assuming Birmingham would be the county town) sounds terrible.

So, two proposals:
Arden - a new name for West Midlands county. Offers a historic name, evoking the ancient woodland of the Forest of Arden that used to cover the area now comprising West Midlands county.
Mercia - a new name for the West Midlands region. Named for the ancient kingdom that encompassed much of the Midlands.

Looking for Stuff to do

Looking for ideas of stuff to do, barley leave the house at the min so need some new ideas for stuff to do after work or on weekends but going blank on what to consider. West Midlands area, don't currently have a car so travel options are limited.

Current Hobbies

-Reading – stuff on wuxia world, royal road or kindle unlimited

- Video Games (more socially few single player ones every few months and only a few nights a week after work)

- Gym

-Board game groups (occasionally not very often as there isn’t much local so takes a bit of travel)

Things I have tried

- Bouldering

- Running (got a bad knee and had to stop)

-Meetup – not much going on lately that I want to do mostly drinking events near me
Any suggestions ideally something a bit more social as i don't socialise as much as I should. Also, I don't normally get on with crafting stuff.

Thanks

Please can anyone at all reach out to me and find me the guy on the right his name is SADIQ ABUBAKAR BUKAR-KOLO. I need him to contact me because he’s blocked me when he’s meant to pay me back for something. He owes me a lot of money.

His dad on the left if anyone knows him aswell that would be greatly appreciated.

He goes to Birmingham City University and is doing a masters. He is Nigerian but talked about living in the US.
His dad must’ve been somebody important because he talked about his dad being in New York a few weeks ago about speaking in an important conference.

Worcester Gamers

Hi everyone,

I run a small Discord server for people in and around Worcestershire who are into gaming, chatting, and just generally meeting new people locally.

It's a relaxed community whether you're looking for people to play games with or just want a bit more of a social circle. We also run regular events, including weekly online and in-person game nights, so there's usually something going on.

If it sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to join here: https://discord.gg/kpJ4aHDscA

Would be great to see some new faces

Is it time to put the roof back on Coventry Cathedral?

With news that the Medieval cathedral at Coventry is becoming damaged in large part because the inside was never supposed to be exposed to the elements for as long as it has been - is it unreasonable to want to see an effort mimicking that of the campaign that saved and restored Notre Dame, and finally see it rebuilt 80 years after its destruction? I understand the arguments against: that it's supposed to be a memorial to the wartime fire bombing of Coventry; that it provides a tranquil space for reflection in the city centre... But a reconstruction doesn't damage its role as a memorial, if anything it could instead represent a powerful symbol of reconciliation, resilience and healing, finally restoring a scar on the city’s landscape. Beyond preserving an extraordinary piece of British heritage, a rebuilt cathedral could revitalise Coventry’s city centre, attract international tourism, create jobs and generate millions for the local economy, much as the new tomb of Richard III brought an estimated £79 million in Gross Value Added to Leicester. Given we have a Prime Minister interested in redevelopment outside London, and the King is an avid lover of saving important British architecture isn't now finally the time for a campaign to restore this midlands icon?

Looking for DIY course / tutor support

I'm looking for a beginners DIY course in the West Midlands that's suitable for women wanting to learn the basics. Or if anyone is aware of any qualified DIY / carpenter / woodworker who tutors or teaches short courses? I'm hopefully moving house soon and I'd just like to get better at tackling the basics (and then hopefully more confident tackling slightly bigger projects - fitted furniture, fixes etc.). And even if I end up contracting someone, I'm hopefully more knowledgeable about what they're talking about too!

I know YouTube exists. But that's just not how I learn - I like to practice, get face time for guidance and feedback and learn by doing.

I've already enquired via the Walsall Training Centre so I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I just wondered whether anyone knows of anything else to explore?
