No AI slop

Content made primarily (or entirely) by generative artificial intelligence is not allowed. This includes AI images, AI videos, AI text, and AI code.

As a general rule, if it's recognizable as AI, it's not allowed in r/Buffalo from now on with some exceptions. Please report these posts if you see them.

A definition of AI Slop: AI slop (also known as slop content or simply as slop) is digital content made with generative artificial intelligence that is perceived as lacking in effort, quality, or meaning, and produced in high volume as clickbait to gain advantage in the attention economy, or earn money.

Things To Do “Naza” film in Buffalo.

I just saw the 1:00 showing of this investigative documentary on the mechanics of Israel's slaughter of Palestinians at downtown’s Market Arcade. Wow. Searing. I can see why Netanyahu and his ilk don’t want people to see it. But I was surprised to be the only person there. For anyone interested, it ends this Thursday.

Central Terminal from the air, as published in December 1930. The 1907 plan for this site came with a commuter line on the Belt Line, a small downtown station for tickets and baggage, and streetcars to serve it. Only the station was built.

Duplicate/Repost Coats

Greetings everyone,

What are the best coats for the uncoming winter? Im tired of Marshall's, Burlington and Tjmaxx that provide those flimsy Micheal Kors, Calvin Kliens and other fancy name brands that are more cute than practical.

I need the real deal, the heavy duty ones.

Please drop suggestions.

Price isnt a factor, I just want a durable long lasting coat.

Have a great day everyone.

Primary Care Physician recommendations

Hello all, I know this has been asked before and will be asked again: any PCP recommendations? I know it depends on what insurance I have, so just give me your recommendations and I'll do the fun activity of finding out whether they take my insurance, because this is America, after all. Looking for offices where you'll actually be able to see your assigned doctor and not a PA and that don't medically gaslight (don't know if these things are actually possible nowadays). Thank you kindly.

Second hand shop advice

I am going to masquerade in NYC and need a black, white or silver formal dress. Is there anywhere in Buffalo someone could recommend i might find something interesting.

I really have no reason to pay a lot of money for a formal dress but I want to have fun getting something special if possible.

Relocation Curious about 2condo buildings

Hi everyone!  First time posting here. I’m exploring the possibility of moving to Buffalo (visited several times and really like the city and work remotely). I’m curious about 2 condo buildings I’ve seen on some real estate websites: 800 West Ferry Street and 125 Edward Street.

800 W. Ferry is beautiful and reminds me a lot of my former home in Manhattan. Monthly HOA fees seem high, but I think parking and some utilities are included. Not sure if Edward Street has parking for residents. The condos look very well maintained and updated and from what I can tell on a map, they seem very walkable to restaurants and shops along Elmwood Avenue.  Not certain if either location is close to buses or other public transit.

I'm not ready yet to connect with a realtor, however, if anyone's familiar with these buildings or neighborhoods, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons of living in either location. How is the walkability, and are there any safety concerns I should be aware of?  I’d appreciate any firsthand experience or advice as I dig into whether Buffalo is a good fit for me!  Thanks in advance!

Things To Do Allen St Halloween Bar Crawl

Hi!

Has anyone heard of/planning on doing the Crawl With US Halloween Bar Crawl in Buffalo near Allen this weekend? It covers 11 spots:

Allen Street Hardware Cafe
Taqueria Ranchos Dos
Nietzsche's
Roseland's Atlas Restaurant
Sonny's
Twenty Six
Fat Bob's Smokehouse
Cafe 59
Chef BigWayne Jamaican Cuisine
Milkies
Thirsty Buffalo

Just curious what everyone thinks, we were considering it but thought the mix of locations was a bit odd but I also haven’t been to most of these places.

Rental requirements (3x income)

This is more of a vent post, but rentals requiring 3x the rent as monthly income here has made apartment searching unbearable.

If I made $4k/month as a young person starting out don’t they think I’d just buy a house?

I feel as though having both a credit barrier, as well as a 3x income requirement is a little much, especially with how high the cost of living outside of housing is lately.

Interested in others thoughts here.

Question Infant feeding specialist?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for an infant feeding specialist in the Buffalo area who specializes in bottle-feeding. I’d love to have someone assess my baby’s latch and feeding efficiency, as I have some concerns about how she latches onto the bottle nipple.

If you’ve worked with someone you’d recommend, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience! Bonus points if they accept insurance. Thank you!

Looking for free books to keep (any format/genre)

Hey Buffalo!

I am looking to gather some free books that I can take home and keep permanently. I am completely open to any format, paperbacks, hardcovers, fiction, non-fiction, or older copies are all great.

Does anyone know of local community spots, organizational giveaways, or hubs around town where you can get free books to keep?

Alternatively, if you are currently clearing out your bookshelves or trying to downsize a box of books you no longer want, let me know!

Thanks so much!

Campaigning in the Voting Line

I am in line for early voting at the Amherst Senior Center. It’s a very long line. One of the County Legislature candidates is campaigning at the end of the line. While she is over 100 feet from the actual polling site, this still feels sketchy. It’s leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Amherst Term Limit Ballot Vote

Resolution 2026-547 (Amherst Term Limits) is up for vote on election day, and I've seen a lot of misinformation regarding it. So wanted to post the context of the resolution, and trying not to bias it towards any political party.

Term limits were passed by the Amherst town board in 2006, which set up 2 consecutive 4-year term limit. So yes, there are currently term limits in place. (Here is where the resolution comes into play) In 2023, New York Court of Appeals ruled in Hoehmann v. Town of Clarkstown that term limits for municipal offices must be approved by public vote. Because the 2006 law was approved by Amherst town hall, and not by public vote, it can be challenged and most likely be struck down (upon which to revert to no term limits).

So the Resolution is aimed at patching the legal vulnerability, by putting it up for vote. However, there are a few changes from the 2006 law.

- For most positions, the 2 4-year limit stays the same.

- Town clerk and highway superintendent have increased term limits (from 2 4-year terms to 3 4-year terms)

- "Reset the clock" - past terms before Nov 2, 2027 do not count toward the term limit.

Voting No keeps the 2006 limits in place, along with its vulnerabilities.

Voting Yes keeps passes the resolution and patches the legal vulnerability, but resets the clock and increases the term limit for the 2 positions (remainder keeps their current term limits)

Wig/Hair Shops

Hi all, I’m a female that’s been experiencing hair loss over the last year and finally at the point where I’d like to explore a wig or hair topper. Totally lost where to start, so looking for recs of a place that sells hair that is knowledgeable and can walk me through different options and how to attach/style. Need to get my mojo back and this is a step towards that. Thanks everyone!

Question Cotton Candy?

I'm looking for a place that sells county fair-style cotton candy. The type they spin in-house. I've only ever seen it at fairs and festivals but it's a special request from my dad for his birthday. Premade tubbed versions would be fine as a last resort.

I've had it a few years and I'm unsure how I acquired it. As I organize my local collectibles, I'd like to know who to credit. Thanks!
