Recommendations I am enjoying The Lanterns

Personally I stick to products about Batfamily and Superman but I saw the series is quite liked and I decided to watch it. I am on ep 2 and I must say, I liked Hal like wow..Kyle Chandler nailed it and idk if I am only one but his name has a green lantern vibe, like "Kyle Chandler the green lantern" sounds right to me

I decided to read Geoff Johns' books, i think they are most liked ones and gives a good origin story about Hal? I am open to recommendations!

Discussion DC Fancast 1990s/2000s part 1 [discussion]

Trying to imagine, with these castings, what a DC film saga adaptation produced from the mid-1990s to the late 2000s would have looked like, trying to find actors who not only matched the roles, but also had being realistically viable choices to play the characters at the time.

Any criticism is welcome as long as it's not pure hate; suggestions are also accepted, both for characters already cast and for characters I didn't include in Part 1.

Recommendations Where do I start reading comics?

I've always wanted to get into comics, but never knew about any starting point. The moment I searched for where to start reading comics about the justice league everything pointed me to really old comics, so I want to know if there is any starting point for that isn't from the distant past. I'm currently interested in reading about Bat family, Lantern corps, Wonder woman, Justice League, and Teen Titans.

I am not completely black about the characters, but I wouldn't mind reading from their origin (as there may be changes from comic to animated shows) So I would really appreciate it if you could give me recommendations of newer comics about these characters/groups.

PS-I'm currently reading Absolute universe, but want recommendations from the main universe.

Discussion [Discussion] Batman's no kill code

Post image

I wanna take others opinion in this, but is this idea more common with batman?

I am not sure but I think it makes more sense that Batman isn't completely blind that some people cant be saved and them living would just be waiting for more tragic deaths to happen, but he just hates to be the one to make the call and doesn't trust his own judgement.

I think the popular image for batman is he simply wouldn't kill you no matter how awful you are, but I think that view isn't always consistent with all iterations.

But what is your opinion about it?

Discussion If this Batman show was real would you watch it just base off of these two episodes [discussion]

Post image
2 Upvotes

If this Batman show was real would you watch it just off of the first two episodes also the image I have is a drawing of the characters I made who are important to the story that isn't flashback characters

Episode 1 would have Bruce becoming Batman then we would jump to Batman in his first year investigating the explosion of a property that belongs to mayor Hamilton Hill.

Bruce would find nothing the next day Bruce Wayne would be attending prep rally type of thing talking about how he is going to give funding to Gotham State University to make it a better and more secure School along with giving a huge benefit to the debate team because of how good they did with convincing the mayor of Gotham to actually go with the idea of upping the security.

At this meeting Bruce Wayne would meet one of the leaders of the debate team Lonnie Machin.

Later at night Bruce would be as Batman investigating another explosion the same style but different building this one belonging to mobster Rupert thorn.

Bruce quickly even without finding evidence to what the explosion came from quickly puts together that whoever is doing this is targeting corrupt people.

so Bruce has three locations written down that could be hit the iceberg Lounge City Hall and the gcpd along with upping the security of Any Wayne building just in case.

well a couple minutes later while mayor Hamilton Hill is talking at City Hall it blows up behind him on live television.

Batman waits for people to leave the area and sneaks past the police and he finds evidence this time clothing along with a part of the bomb he will take it back to the batcave but couldn't find no DNA on it since well he isn't that advanced yet.

but he is advanced enough to review footage on the bat computer from the Gotham channel 9 News recording and he noticed the university debate team was there and he noticed at a certain amount of time Lonnie was missing.

Right after this every television in Gotham gets taken over by a person calling himself Anarky.

and he says that every corrupt person in Gotham including Bruce Wayne has exactly 10 minutes to give themselves up and surrender or he will use the Dead Man switch he has blowing up a lot of buildings including Wayne owned properties.

this sents Alfred into a panic for Bruce's safety he knows Bruce is going to go out but he's worried because before now all Bruce dealt with was gangsters and Mobsters no one like this.

Bruce would eventually track down where the broadcast is coming from.

(ps this is the DC universe so Bruce could still not be advanced in technology and broadcast could still exist like how they could have advanced holograms but somehow only have flip phones)

Bruce Would track it down to the Machin household and investigate some stuff finding out that Lonnie is actually adopted and was raised in a corrupt orphanage that abuse the children.

After learning this Bruce would make his way to Lonnie's room finding the anarchy suit when Lonnie walks in he would of course try to fight Bruce both with words and fists.

but Bruce would easily take him down since Lonnie is just a child basically no match for a grown adult with Bruce's level of fighting .

he would leave him tied up at the house and leave before his parents get back home and then Bruce would have Alfred give a anonymous tip to the gcpd which is at the time run by lobe.

This would also set up the main villain of the season Rupert Thorne.

Now on to the next episode. As you could tell I didn't really want to use Batman's popular villains for this season there are some that are popular but I mean like it's major villains like the penguin or Joker or Riddler.

Episode 2 will give us some of Bruce Wayne's teenage past like him dating Julie Madison and some stuff with Hugo Strange.

and then we would jump into the main part of the episode of Bruce Wayne will be as Batman looking into Rupert Thorn leading him to a small criminal group working under the boss this group is led by frenchy Blake (okay anyways before finishing this part of what the episode would be like you might ask who is frenchy Blake no he is not a original character he appears in Detective Comics number 28 he was the main villain of the Batman story for that comic since I wanted to use one of the older villains so I decided to go with good old Frenchy who never appeared again I believe.)

Anyways it leaves him to frenchy who has a Jewelry gang who takes jewelry to get money to give to Rupert.

Batman would miss them the first time at the first store and would find no evidence.

at the second store he would miss them but find some evidence some torn clothes on broken glass from them breaking the door., Bruce would also at the batcave figure out that these people are probably going after high end stores that sell very expensive stuff so he makes a map of possible locations that could get hit.

The third time around Batman would catch some of the members so they would since they think he is a monster a type of bat creature of the night they would snitch on their boss and tell Batman where he is at.

(Ps by this time people are not calling him Batman but just the bat because this would be a year one Batman just beginning so more like a month one Batman after getting back to Gotham so he is believed to be a urban myth which is why the police really isn't doing that much stuff but they will later on there is a side plot with Jim Gordon in this episode going after the Gang sadly I didn't have enough room for him on my paper but he will appear in other episodes. And More cops will appear halfway through the season or at least after the first couple episodes.)

Anyways after the side plot back to Batman he would appear at The gangs hideout take down the people there breaking their bones but not really trying to do anymore harm.

And interrogate Frenchy after tying his legs up with a bat rope and having him hang up in the rafters.

Frenchy would at first not say anything only for Batman to threaten him and hit him which would get him talking.

And he would start to say who he is working for with Batman stopping him and saying that he already knows.

frenchy would go on and say but he doesn't know where Rupert is or where the money that they get from selling the stuff and from other jobs goes.

they only give it to a guy that in the criminal organization they call the book worm.

who is the accountant type of person for Rupert.

and then Batman would safely and securely tied Frenchy up to a light post outside he would leave a note until like the police know it was him since he wants the cops to know about him and this is tooken from those early comics where he did this.

And that would be the end of the episode the next post will have two or three more episodes.

Discussion Batman Beyond Comics anyone?

Okay so I am in love with Terry McGinnis and I just finished Batman Beyond and the JLU episode "epilogue" I think I'm going to rewatch return of the joker ton ight too because I can't get enough of this character. is there any comics that keep Terry's characterization in the DCAU within the comics like something that makes you go "yeah okay THIS" is Terry. I don't want to see my boy butchered by some needless comic writer.

Film + TV What did you think of the Batman Trilogy? (2000's)

• Upvotes

I'm not a comics book reader and I probably will never be one, but when I watch movies or shows I still want it to be respectful to the paper OGs. As comic fans what did you guys think of the Batman Trilogy from the 2000's (The dark knight, batman begins) do you think that the movies stayed faithful to the comics or did they stray a little bit? I have to admit from a production standpoint the movies are phenomenal but I've wondered whether they stayed faithful or not. So what do y'all think?

Comics [Discussion] I just bought my first ever comic and...

Post image
11 Upvotes

Can't say I liked it, it's clearly setting up something and the first one wasn't available on amazon so I shouldn't go so harsh on it. I actually bought a few more but this one was the first that arrived, the ones I got were: Absolute batman 1, Absolute Wonder Woman 1, Absolute Superman 1 and 2, Batman Long Halloween and Swamp Thing part One.

What I really wanted was to read Post Crisis DC since from what I researched is the Era people liked the most. what's tricky is that from what i understand It's not a hard reboot so it's hard to really know when it starts, if I remember correctly from what Ive seen in a website is to start from the Man of Steel Series but the comics are a bit expensive so I decided to just buy whatever is available. And that's how my comic reader journey has started, im very excited! 😄😄

Comics [Discussion] Bruce Wayne will "die" – will Selina react to that?

So, in a few issues Bruce Wayne is going to be "killed" in Matt Fraction's ongoing Batman series. I'm quite excited to see how that pans out, but I'm also wondering: Will this be the moment Catwoman makes a proper appearance in the run? I mean, she's bound to have * some * reaction to news like that? Or do you think they'll just (keep on to) ignore her or have her figure out the truth immediately and shrug it off?

Discussion I had an idea about the New 52: what if they'd launched one new comic per week?

A few months ago I read all the New 52 comics which were the first to be cancelled, after running only 8 issues each, and I found that I really liked some of them and thought most of them were at least OK. The real problem wasn't their quality: it's that they were fairly obscure titles which each had to compete with 51 other titles launching in the same month, and people were far more eager to get in on the ground floor with the new volume of "Batman" or "Justice League" than they were to check out the new rebooted "OMAC" or "Blackhawks".

So, I was thinking today about how the New 52 relaunch could've been done differently, and it occurred to me: what if, instead of launching all 52 new titles in September 2011, they spaced them out with one new #1 every week for an entire year? Start with the biggest titles first ("Justice League", "Batman", "Superman" and "Wonder Woman", probably) and then start relaunching the smaller ones, and by the time of August 2012 the New 52 would take over the DC line completely.

People would probably be more willing to buy every new #1 if there were only four or five of them per month rather than 52 all at once. And as they'd inevitably drop some series after checking them out for the first couple of issues, that'd free them up to check out some new series that was launching later, rather than having been forced to choose between them when they launched at the same time.

And meanwhile, a lot of pre-New-52 ongoing storylines could have had the time to come to proper resolutions and tie off any remaining plot threads, rather than being cut off abruptly after August 2011. And Geoff Johns' "Green Lantern" and Grant Morrison's "Batman Incorporated" could have had up to an extra year to wrap up within the pre-New-52 continuity, rather than being forced into the New 52. It could've also helped to keep the New 52 reboot more organised: if they have more time to launch most of their new titles, then they can probably keep better track of what they want to be canon or non-canon to the new universe and how the new backstory is actually supposed to work.

What I'm not sure about, though, is whether a year-long rollout like that would actually be possible. I'd really like to know what people think.

Let me know, thank you!

I just finished reading Grant Morrisons Animal Man and it was great I adored it from start to finish. I've heard mixed opinions about the other runs. Are any of them good or worth reading? Should I read new 52 Animal Man? I just want to know if it's worth carrying on with Animal Man or going into different characters.

Discussion [Discussion] In Flashpoint—whether the animated movie or the comics—Barry's journey into the past to prevent the death of his mother, Nora Allen, should never have affected the timeline to such an extent

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Flash's time travel was supposed to affect the events that took place after his mother's murder. Since Superman arrived before Barry's mother died, that detail should never have changed in Flashpoint; when Barry traveled back in time to prevent that tragedy, Superman's ship should have landed normally in Kansas in that parallel reality. Furthermore, General Lane treating an alien like a son is completely out of character. He has always been xenophobic, paranoid, and hostile toward aliens. Besides, Barry should have known that by trying to change the past by saving his mother, he would logically disrupt the normal course of future events. As Nora told him, there are some tragedies that are impossible to avoid.

There are far too many inconsistencies in the comics and the animated movie Flashpoint. Even the explanation for the time wave doesn’t hold up when you analyze the story closely.

The basic rule of any time travel is that any action intended to change the past—no matter how minor—exclusively disrupts the normal course of future events and heavily influences the future. Ultimately, the heroes’ stories—whether set before Nora Allen’s murder or unrelated to Barry’s life—should never have been affected.

However, in Flashpoint—both the movie and the comics—Superman landed in Metropolis instead of Kansas and fell into the hands of the U.S. military. Thomas Wayne became Batman, and it was Bruce who was killed, turning Martha Wayne into the Joker. Diana never met Steve Trevor and never left Themyscira to see the human world; she became the Queen of the Amazons. Aquaman’s name is Orin, and he is a ruthless ruler; the Justice League was never formed; the Amazons and the Atlanteans are at war following Mera’s murder after she discovered that Aquaman was cheating on her with Wonder Woman; Wonder Woman is just as ruthless as Aquaman; Steve Trevor is even dating Lois Lane (in the movie, not the comics); Hal Jordan never became Green Lantern. Iris West is married to another man and has a daughter with him—which is one of the few logical changes to the continuity.

In reality, Flashpoint functions a bit like a gimmick—an Elseworld, if you will. The editors have thrown all temporal logic out the window to explore sensational “What if?” storylines.

The tie-in miniseries published alongside it, such as Project Superman, Emperor Aquaman, or Batman: Knight of Vengeance, function exactly like Elseworld. They ask sensational questions like: “What if Bruce Wayne had died instead of his parents?” , “What if Superman were captured by the government?”, or “What if Wonder Woman became a ruthless conqueror?”.

The goal wasn’t chronological consistency, but rather visual and narrative shock to attract readers with radically different and extreme versions of iconic heroes, all while setting the scene for New 52.

Discussion Do people in the DC Universe think Bruce Wayne is smart?

I'm talking about Bruce Wayne himself, not Batman.

I've always wondered what Bruce Wayne's reputation for intelligence is actually like in-universe.

He's known publicly as a billionaire playboy, but he's also the head of Wayne Enterprises, has been involved with the company from a relatively young age, and has built a huge network of connections and influence.

So when people in the DC Universe talk about Bruce Wayne, do they generally consider him to be a genuinely intelligent and capable person?

Or is he mostly viewed as someone who was simply born into an extremely wealthy family and happened to inherit the Wayne fortune?

Basically, what do people in-universe actually think about Bruce Wayne's intelligence and competence?
