Fan-made [Fan Art] New Fan Project: My Adventures with Doctor Fate. Season 1 Promo Art. Concept by Me, art by Danps

They say “sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic”. But sometimes… it’s just Magic.

My Adventures with Doctor Fate is a journey through the mystical underbelly of the established MAW universe. While Superman faces Earth-based sci-fi threats and Green Lantern explores epic space adventures, Khalid Nassour — a young sorcerer — discovers that ancient magic is very real, hidden just beneath the surface of everyday life. Mentored by the wise Inza and bound to the powerful entity Nabu, Khalid must protect a world that doesn’t even know it’s under threat.

Artist: https://www.instagram.com/danps/

The Players:

Khalid Kent Nassour

A 24-year-old third-year medical student at Columbia University, Khalid is an Egyptian-American from Brooklyn who has dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood. Raised in a dual-religion household, he built his own outlook around coexistence, mutual respect, and service. Sarcastic and playfully affectionate with his girlfriend Shaya, close to his parents, and prone to avoiding conflict when overwhelmed, he has worn his uncle Kent’s “lucky” Eye of Horus pendant for ten years without knowing that within, it holds the Helmet of Fate and a fragmented Nabu. At the start of the series he is still an ordinary young man balancing school, relationships, and personal hobbies, with no idea his latent magical potential is about to awaken.

Inza Nelson

Khalid’s maternal aunt and the widow of Kent Nelson, Inza is a powerful sorceress of Akkadian descent who once helped her husband master magic as Doctor Fate. She loved Kent deeply but came to despise the way Nabu routinely stripped him of agency, even while accepting that the role itself mattered. At the beginning of Season 1 she is still carrying the weight of that history and of Kent’s death; she has not yet been called back into active mentoring and remains wary of anything connected to the Helmet.

Nabu

At the start of the series Nabu exists only as a fragmented presence inside Khalid’s mind, with no clear memory of his past. He believes he may simply be a secondary personality that has lived silently alongside Khalid for a decade. Condescending, snarky, and eager to take control, he appears in Khalid’s own likeness because he currently lacks a distinct Ba of his own. The audience (and Khalid) do not yet know he is a Lord of Order whose power and identity were deliberately split and sealed ten years earlier.

Shaya Halim

A bright, wry, hard-headed 24-year-old medical student and aspiring neurosurgeon, Shaya has been dating Khalid since undergrad. Second-generation Indian-American and Hindu, she wears a red bindi more as fashion than strict observance and often stays in her scrubs out of practicality. She loves Khalid, shares an affectionate shorthand with him, and at the beginning of the season still has no idea he is about to become Doctor Fate or that a second consciousness lives inside him.

Akila Rashid

Khalid’s childhood friend since age ten, Akila is a devout Muslim who also embraces modern interests and is a talented programmer at TetchTech, hired directly by its CEO, Jervis Tetch. She has carried an unrequited crush on Khalid for a decade and is openly frustrated by his tendency to avoid her when uncomfortable. Politically passionate and quick to protest injustice, she is cordial with his parents, jealous of Shaya, and at the start of the series is simply the close friend who still hopes he might one day see her differently. She is the first to discover Khalid's magical ancestry, being with him when he first becomes Doctor Fate.

Todd Rice Scott

A lean, blue-collar mechanical engineer who works alongside his father Alan Scott at New York City Broadcasting, Todd is Khalid’s college friend and one of the group’s steadiest, kindest members when he is on his medication. Carrying long-standing trust issues and fragile self-worth from a difficult childhood of bullying due to his sexual orientation, he leans toward rehabilitation and second chances but has a darker side which can peak out. At the beginning of Season 1 he is simply a good friend who shares interest in video games and food adventures with Khalid—completely unaware of magic, the Helmet, or the future adventure that will eventually come for him.

Anubis

At the beginning of Season 1, Anubis appears only as a silent, watchful black jackal moving through New York. He observes acts of cruelty and kindness without speaking, lingering near moments of death, judgment, and moral weight. To Khalid and the others he is at first simply an unsettling animal presence tied to the worsening storm and his father, Mohammad’s, crisis. His true nature, motives, and capacity for speech remain hidden until later.

More to come soon :) Civilians, villains, heroes, and more!

Comics [Comic Excerpt] It will always be frustrating that we finally got Raven's long hair and personality back just for the creative team changeup to reset her in the very next issue (Titans #15-16)

Raven hasn't looked like Raven in years, and this was also true of the Tom Taylor run for awhile. But during the Dark Winged Queen arc, not only did he restore Raven's original looks with her longer fully-black hair, but she began acting a bit more like herself as well. We even got the return of "Titans Together" as their rallying cry. Everything felt like it was coming together to promise a return to what people originally liked about these characters. We just didn't know that this would be Tom Taylor's last arc with the team, and that the very next creative team would bring back the short, dyed hair and totally change her personality, all to set up a more rushed and less earned retread of the merge that just happened in the previous issue, because they decided to retcon that merge as imperfect. It felt like we were so close!

I really hope whichever creative team gets ahold of Raven next is interested in writing the comic version of the character and not the hybrid of the cartoon and Picolo versions that she's been for awhile now.

Hi. My boyfriend started his DC compact collection and he has got DC: New Frontier and Batman Court of Owls. Those 2 are his very first comics. I want to give him more because he enjoyed reading those two and he loves DC's stories and superheroes. Which ones y'all recommend me to get?

Everyone’s melting down over how bulky/unhinged the new Absolute Universe Cyborg looks, but let’s not pretend Vic hasn't suffered through far worse fashion crimes.

Look at this man standing poolside in full chrome undergarments, high-cut leotard, and strapped bondage boots like he’s headlining an 80s synth-pop wrestling federation. Raven is in formal evening wear, Terra is ready for a swim, and Vic is locked in a high-waisted titanium onesie.

Compared to this, Absolute Cyborg is living in peak haute couture.

Discussion [Discussion] Batman Bad Seeds heading for the finale Spoiler

Batman: Bad Seeds - Streets of Gotham #1 Art by Rossi Gifford

Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham Central #2 Art by Jacob Phillips

Batwoman (2026-) #8 - Art by DaNi

Batgirl (2024-) #24 - Art by Takeshi Miyazawa

With Bad Seeds coming to an end, except for Gotham General which got delayed, I haven't seen much conversation about it.

I feel like the core issues flew by with what feels like not much happening.

However I really enjoyed the small side stories going around the main narrative. Gotham is such a large city and it was great to get to see different locations and people.

My personal favorite was Gotham Central, my bias really shows for a certain character that appears there, I liked the tension it built and it really worked for me as a prelude to the upcoming Gangs series. We also got a little bit more insight into Dr. Zeller and the Crown of storms, so that's a plus as well.

What are your thoughts about this event so far as we head for the finale?

I'm trying to find a guy that once told me he was on a journey to read everything that was put out during the new 52. That's the era where I started reading comics so I want to revisit it and read everything I can but only the good ones. If you're that guy let me know!
