News New DART CEO’s former colleague alleges he covered up money issues at prior transportation agency

Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s new CEO Nathaniel “Nat” Ford faces new allegations of covering up financial mismanagement at his previous job in Florida.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority Board Member Daniel Vallencourt alleged this week that Ford withheld that the agency had a $39 million deficit, owed vendors tens of millions of dollars and was pulling from its reserve fund to stay afloat.

“Nat Ford and his executive leadership team painted a picture for the Board that did not reflect reality,” Vallencourt wrote in a statement Monday. “The house was on fire, and leadership was doing everything it could to convince everyone otherwise.”

Opinion This apartment complex is destroying these poor squirrels homes 😥

This makes me sad and sick. What is a beautiful little creek is being totally destroyed instead of just trimmed down. I gave the squirrels peanuts recently. I wish there was something I can do. It takes years for trees to grow back.

Big cities and their apartment complexes suck

News Ken Paxton's 'October Surprises' Are Pure Disinformation

Some notable Dallas connections have been reported in the quest to solve the mystery of who paid for the transgender mailers that were sent to Texans during early voting under the name Texas Transgender Student Union, which the Texas Observer reported is an anonymously registered LLC in Wyoming. The bulk mail permit associated with the mailers belongs to an Illinois-based company called Three Z Printing, and one of those three Zs is a Dallas man named Matt Zerrusen—who has expressed his opinions in the Dallas Express.

Transgender Education Network of Texas, the organization impersonated in the mailers, filed a petition in Travis County district court seeking permission to take depositions in order to identify unnamed defendants for a possible lawsuit. Ahead of a hearing scheduled for today in Travis County, Chris Hilton—a lawyer who worked under Attorney General Paxton, left temporarily to defend him in his impeachment trial, and was ultimately forced out of his position amid sexual harassment allegations—was retained as counsel for the Texas Transgender Student Union.

Question Help on Pre-Purchase Inspection

Hello,

I’m planning to purchase a used, non-CPO Audi Q3 from Audi Grapevine and wanted to get some advice on pre-purchase inspection.

Since I’m buying directly from an Audi dealership, would you still recommend getting an independent pre-purchase inspection, or is it generally safe to rely on the dealership’s inspection?

If you recommend getting one, could you suggest a shop in the DFW area that can perform a quick inspection?

Thanks

Meetup 28M looking to make a few friends in Dallas/DFW

28M, engaged, and looking to make a few actual guy friends around Dallas/DFW.

Not really looking for some huge social group — more like 2-4 guys around my age (roughly 25-32) who you can text on a Saturday and say “want to golf?”, grab lunch/drinks, or get together and watch football.

I’m a big sports guy. Carolina Panthers fan, watch a ton of NFL in general, MLB, college basketball and WWE. I also play a lot of golf and would definitely be down to find some guys who play regularly and take the game at least somewhat seriously (I’m not out here strictly enforcing rules, but I do enjoy keeping pace). Also enjoy basketball/flag football and I’m usually down to go watch a game somewhere.

Ideal Saturday for me is probably golf in the morning, grab some food afterward, then watch football and have a couple beers.

I’m engaged, so meeting some other guys in relationships/couples would also be cool if everyone eventually gets along, but definitely not a requirement.

Pretty laid-back personality. I’m not really into the giant networking/social-club thing, and I’m not particularly interested in talking politics. Just looking for some funny, normal, athletic/sports-minded people to hang out with every couple weekends.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, shoot me a message. Or if you know anywhere to meet people like that, also shoot me a message.

Politics The Morning News backed Talarico and said Abbott 'has lost our recommendation.' Here's his record next to Hinojosa's plan

Post image

Our own paper backed Talarico for Senate, but made no pick for governor. On Abbott it wrote: "We have long supported Gov. Greg Abbott, but he has lost our recommendation."

If you're splitting your ticket, that's your call. I just wanted the record and the alternative in one place before you vote.

Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Bring a photo ID. Polling places are at VoteTexas.gov.

Question What does it mean if someone gets deferred adjudication for SA of a child and possession of child pornography in Tarrant County?

A friend of my brother’s was arrested almost two years ago for sex crimes, which shocked everyone who knew them. I recently got curious about what happened with the case, and after some back and forth with the county clerk, I finally obtained the court records.

Turns out they received six years of deferred adjudication last year. The child sexual assault and possession of child pornography charges were waived as part of the plea agreement, and they pleaded guilty to lesser charges. They also don’t appear to have been required to register as a sex offender and won’t serve prison time as long as they successfully complete their supervision.

I’m honestly pretty shocked by how lenient the outcome seems, especially considering this happened in Texas.

For anyone familiar with the Texas court system, is this a fairly normal outcome in cases involving sexual offenses against minors? Does deferred adjudication usually suggest there were problems with the evidence, or do prosecutors commonly offer these kinds of plea deals even when they have a strong case?

Politics Go Vote!

If you have the opportunity to vote, please go. It’s so important to exercise the one American right we have that gives us an active voice in the electoral process. I trust that if we have high voter turnout we will be able to have a government that more accurately reflects its constituents. That is all, I may not agree with how you vote, but I believe you have the right to vote.

Discussion NYC is Quieter

People routinely complain about the noise in cities and praise the quiet of the suburbs. I just returned from NYC, where I stayed in SoHo. I slept well, heard very little noise at night, and didn’t notice a lot of noise overall.

You know what I never heard? The cursed lawn mowers and leaf blowers I’m listening to right now, three doors away.

They are SOOO damn loud. In our neighborhood, they can start as early as 8 a.m., and not a day goes by without hearing them multiple times.

So much for the quiet suburbs. Why can't we regulate the noisy, polluting, lawn machines?
