Question Waiting at a bus stop and the bus did not stop?

Hi there I am waiting at a bus stop right now. Just a couple of minutes ago I got to the bus shelter and was staring at the posters only to realize that a bus has driven past me. It definitely showed no signs of slowing down or anything since when I noticed it, it was still not past the stop. I swear I just got here for less than half a minute, and I checked the Google map to make sure I am perfectly on time for the arrival. Why did I just got ignored 😭 Now I have to wait for another quarter.
For your interest, it is Calgary Trail SB & 51 Avenue. I am waiting for the 006

Question Starbucks Heritage Valley temporarily closed

So I went for my afternoon coffee and discovered that this Starbucks location was temporarily closed. There was still someone inside cleaning up, but plenty of cars and people came by after me to discover the same thing. It was still closed about 30 minutes ago, so what happened? This is the first time I've seen a location just close without any obvious issues from what I can see.

Commuting/Transit West Side Commute to Uni

To those who live in Edgemont/The Uplands, how do you guys commute to university? Do you guys take the bus or drive entirely there. I am living in the neighborhood now and there are no bus routes close to my house and I unfortunately don’t even fall in the area for the on demand service. I go to the UofA (living on the west end of uplands) so I would appreciate any tips.

Outdoor Spaces/Recreation Landscaping enthusiasts and Edmonton parks

My wife I have been spending our weekends enjoying Hawrelak park. We live in the Capilano neighborhood, and walk our dog daily through this park. An on occasion, Golbar, Fulton and Rundle. All of which we love, and are beautiful in their own way.

The one thing I noticed right away about Hawrelak park that I love, is the mass planting of grasses and dogwoods. It looks amazing and seems like such a simple way to add interest along the paths. I wonder if others feel the same. It has me walking the Capilano Park paths thinking, if they aren't adding more trees along the path, why not more native grasses and shrubs.

Question Favourite childhood memories of Halloween in Edmonton?

Halloween always makes me feel a bit nostalgic of what it was like as a kid. So I’m wondering what fond memories others have of Halloween in Edmonton?

Some of mine that come to mind:
-Field trips to the Scarecrow festival at the expo centre.

-Going down to the ā€œrichā€ houses along Ada Boulevard and getting our king size chocolate bars or cans of pop.

-dressing up for school and having a huge school wide pumpkin carving session in the gymnasium.

Please keep the Halloween spirit alive for the little ones! I’m so excited I get to take my toddler trick r’ treating for the first time this weekend. Hope you all have a great one!

Question Seeking chocolate mint, but not *that* chocolate mint

I grew some chocolate mint (Mentha x Piperita F. Citrata) this summer and discovered that it's great with English Breakfast tea. Sadly I have run out and spearmint just isn't scratching that itch. Does anyone know if I could buy dried chocolate mint anywhere?

I'm not looking for tea that tastes like chocolate and mint, I'm specifically looking for Mentha x Piperita F. Citrata. I have already checked Acquired Taste's catalogue and done some google searches. I have found one person in Nova Scotia who sells chocolate mint, but shipping is expensive.

I purchased gas at the Chevron station located on 111 Avenue. The regular gas prices there are nearly identical to the Costco station on 149 Street; however, when applying stacked discounts, the prices at Chevron become significantly lower.

General What's something you'd happily pay someone in Edmonton to handle for you?

Hi everyone, I'm an Edmonton local thinking about starting a small business, and before I build anything I'd rather ask real people than guess. What's a hassle in your life that you wish you could hire out? It could be a service you can't find locally, something overpriced, or a task you just hate doing. No selling here, just honest research. Thanks in advance, and I'll share what I learn with the thread.

Outdoor Spaces/Recreation Raber Gloves - Where To Buy

Hello cold weather enthusiasts! I am looking to buy the famous Raber gloves, or some other Canadian made high quality winter gloves. Looking online some places like Cabela's carry only the Garbage glove, which is great but I need the fingered gloves. Anyone see these in the wild around here or do I have to order online? I'd much prefer to go to a local shop.

Events EDMONTON POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS ORGANIZING MASS WALKOUTS TOMORROW

TOMORROW, OCTOBER 26, noon (12pm), Macewan Clocktower

This is in response to the use of force by Macewan security and peace officers against a peaceful pro-Palestine demonstration. The incident occurred on Thursday (edit) inside one of the Macewan buildings. After a single protestor was aggressively arrested and detained, a large crowd gathered outside the security office in solidarity with the student. Shortly after that, EPS in riot gear showed up to the school, barricading the students inside the building. The students stood their ground and the protestor was released. A full student walkout has been declared for tomorrow at noon.

/

ALL POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO WALK OUT IN A SHOW OF SOLIDARITY.

/

This is your moment students, catalyze this movement and we will join you. You have the power to change this world, this city. We want to see you rise to this occasion. Join the Palestinian students association tomorrow and take a stand for your right to peaceful assembly - and keep in mind, the reason they barricaded the students inside was to quell the rise (censorship), while also intimidating you into shutting up. You are powerful beyond measure. They know it. We know it. Now it's your turn to realize the truth. University isn't just a place of learning, it's where you grow exponentially by challenging everything you are told. Now use those polished critical thinking skills and SHINE. Be the light in the dark that we so desperately need. To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high!

General Unhoused person issue

Hi all!
To keep this as succinct as I can: a couple months ago a lady we have seen in the neighbourhood since we moved in almost 5 years ago approached me in my driveway stating that she had become unhoused. We knew she was always lower income and used to leave our empties out for her and she’d stop to say thanks and chat or whatever. When she mentioned she was now homeless she asked if she could keep a couple things on our driveway-kind of hiding out of sight. Fine, no problem. Then she mentioned that she noticed an empty shed on our property that was accessible from outside the yard. So she asked if she could move some stuff into it. Then she told me a story about how her AISH had gotten messed up and she couldn’t always afford to stay in a motel. She asked if she could hang out in the shed every once in a while. She ran an extension cord from the garage, was smoking in there, tripped the breaker a few times, and was urinating and defecating in the driveway. I sent her a text message politely informing her that she couldn’t stay in there anymore. I got no response so I wrote a note and left it with her stuff. I happened to peek into the shed and see what looked like an entire houseful of stuff in there. She sought me out and told me she found a room and would start moving her things. That was 2 weeks ago already. She’s obviously still staying in the shed. There’s been more garbage, empty booze boxes, food packages, etc. And yes, still evidence of bathroom activities.
I called 211 and they suggested the best course of action is to involve the police. She has been grateful and kind and I really don’t want to have to call the cops.
Any advice? Unkind comments will not be tolerated-that is not the point of this post.

Question Rental Nightmare

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some help/insight. I’m living in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in Old Strathcona (rental). Upon moving in, we were told rent was going to be 1725$. In September, we were charged 1425$ and was told it was prorated (the price I was paying at my place before this one). Basically, she messed up on changing our rental amount, and said she would honour it. October comes, and rent is not taken from my account. I waited a couple of days and then emailed her, no response. Emailed twice more, still no response. Tried to call and call and call - nothing. Now I check today and see that 2350$ is the outstanding balance. It says ā€œ31 days of rent 2200$ā€ and ā€œ31 days of parking 150$ā€ and is backdated for October 1. Our email thread clearly shows the timeline and not receiving a response. Though, no lease has even been sent and our rent was supposed to be 1725$, as we agreed upon! Still no response to my emails. I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. I am a full time student and work full time as well. I cannot afford this rental increase and just want to be able to speak to and be in contact with the property manager. I am so disheartened by this whole experience and overall, frustrated. I contacted the RTB last week before I saw this increase in my account, and he assured me that because I was month to month it was a good situation - I was secure and they could not kick me out. But seeing as we still do not have a lease, can they increase our rent that much without saying anything? And suddenly, one month after we contacted them saying it wasn’t taken out of the account. What do I do?

Question Winterboots recs

I just moved here from Switzerland and I've heard a lot about the cold winters in Edmonton. So naturally I'm trying to prepare myself for it as good as I can lol. So I wanted to ask you guys, do you have any recommendations for good warm, maybe waterproof winter boots and where to get them? I don't gave a huge budget so maybe max 150$.

Thanks for your help! :)
