So nice of them to label which boxes have gold and silver! And a totally normal way to store vintage LV posters laying perfectly out on a bean bag.

Someone is about to get boxes of old socks.

Tip Always research the estate sale company. Fraud in Boston.

I always hated going to their sales. Everything was always overpriced and just not worth it. I didn’t realize I could’ve been supporting a criminal enterprise.

eBay Ebay guy, “shame on you!”

I’m selling a booster box on Ebay. It’s in the original packaging and unopened, but clearly wasn’t handled well. The box has some dents and the packaging is dirty, but everything is intact. The packs of cards are undamaged. I took clear pictures of every angle of the box to show the condition and noted the damage in the description. I looked it up and From what I understand, it is considered new despite the damage. This guy has been messaging me this morning telling me I’m misleading people because I categorized it as new and he’s mad it’s not in right off the shelf condition. Don’t even know why he’s messaging me at all, he’s not even bidding on it. Plus, I set the bid super low so buyers can determine the value of it themselves. Gonna see how he responds to my last message then block him if he’s being an ass.

Edit: Just for clarification, there is no “New with defects” option on Ebay for sealed card boxes. Woukd have picked that if there was one. There was new and used. Looked it up and it’s considered new, so I made sure to add the damage in the description and made very clear photos. Leaving it up to the bidders what it’s value is, they can clearly see what the condition is.

Advanced Question What skills do reselling foster and how could they be relevant in the Job Market?

I've been an ebay seller since 2020 but my sales have dried up to the point that I need to go back to work after 6 years of self employment. For the sake of the discussion I have only worked low skill labor jobs prior to this. I definitely did a lot to build up and maintain my business but I don't know exactly how those skills would translate to employment qualifications. I feel like I've learned a lot of random things like inventory management, tech repair, shoe cleaning, product research, photography, etc.

Discussion Is it legal for storage auction listers to go inside the unit?

I thought going inside the unit was a big no no. I've been seeing several lockerfox listings with the images deep inside the units. Makes me hesitant to bid.

Discussion PLC’s, Servomotors, CNC’s

Does anyone buy and sell PLC’s, Servomotors, CNC’s etc? I’ve come to find there is a big need in the automation and electrical control Industry for replacing obsolete parts and reducing down time when a machine is down. I thought this would be a very niche business to be able to supply needed equipment & parts.

Discussion Facebook marketplace tool

• Upvotes

I’ve tried or looked into a bunch of these tools like Marketplace Monitor, Swoopa, IVY Flip, and MarketFlip/Flipify, but none of them list pricing upfront and most are way too expensive. I found one I actually like, but before I drop $100 on a subscription I want to make sure I’m not missing anything. All I really care about is getting instant alerts as soon as an item is listed matching my price criteria, whether it's an app or a site. Are there any other good ones worth testing before I pay up, or what are you guys using right now?

Advanced Question How to settle a return from a bad buyer's address?

Just got an official USPS Address Unknown returned package for an eBay sale. It's a big apartment complex and the buyer says that Amazon doesn't have a problem delivering and he still wants the item. How's the best way to settle up this transaction?

I think he mostly speaks Spanish so there's a bit of a communication issue.

Mod Post Daily Newbie Thread

Whatever you want to know about flipping, no matter the question, ask here. Even if it's been covered 1,000 times before. Doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you stop learning things, you're probably on your way out.

This is an extremely newb-friendly thread. As such, any rudeness is to be reported.

Discussion Slow sales??

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced slower sales this month, particularly over the past week. I am new to flipping, so maybe this is normal. I usually get at least 1 sale per day, and on good days, maybe 2-3, but I haven't gotten a sale in the past week. This is through 3 channels (eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari), total of 600 listed.

eBay Account suspended from ebay for "raising serious security concerns" - the only thing I did was buy an item

A few hours ago I received an email from ebay saying that my account got "permanently suspended" because my activity has "raised serious security concerns". The account is fairly new mind you, about a week old, and pretty much the only thing I've done with this account was buy an item (a graphics card if I have to specify). The seller has over 2500 reviews, of which 100% are positive, and I paid for it in full, both the stated value of the item and the shipping fees. I paid for it using paypal, and I also have the tracking number. I have no idea what kind of activity caused the ban as I haven't really used my account other than buying (and again, paying for) the item I ended up buying. On top of that, there seems to be no actual way to reach out to an actual agent, since every help & support link is pointing towards a chatting bot, which was barely helpful. Guess my account is forever gone, but I thought I'd post here anyways in case I'm not the only one with such an issue (or there are others with similar cases).

TL:DR: I bought an item from ebay a couple days ago and now I've received a notification from ebay saying my account is permanently suspended stating a pretty vague description

  • The seller I bought my item from has 100% positive feedback and a lot of reviews (over 2500). He's also sold many other items before the one I got
  • I paid for the item IN FULL, both the asking price of it and the shipping fees, using paypal
  • I do have the tracking number for the parcel
  • My ebay account is about a week old
  • The only kind of help & support channel available through ebay regarding the topic is a chat bot, which isn't helpful as it doesn't help me reach an actual human to at least get an idea of what did I do wrong

The only thing I can currently thing of as being remotely suspicious is the email account linked to my ebay one, which is from proton. I've seen another case before where proton emails are not accepted for some reason, and that's vrchat.

Either way, I think my account is gone for good, but here are a couple of screenshots of my suspension messages from the ebay inbox (yes, I already checked that, the notifications came from ebay itself, they're sadly legit) showing the actual emails I received from them

Discussion Sellers: when a buyer refuses delivery and the carrier damages the return, every cost lands on you

Learned this from a phone sale on Swappa (payments run through PayPal): the buyer refused delivery, and the carrier damaged the phone on the way back to me. If you sell on any marketplace, these are the risks that only become visible when something goes wrong:

**1. A refused delivery becomes your problem.** The package comes back to you. If it's damaged in transit, you now hold a damaged item *and* owe the buyer a refund at the same time.

**2. You front the shipping cost.** The label money is spent whether or not the sale completes. If the item comes back damaged, any recovery — of the item's value, and at best the postage — comes only through your own insurance claim, if approved, after photos, paperwork, and waiting. No insurance means no recovery at all. And insurance never covers payment fees.

**3. Making the buyer whole costs you the payment fee.** PayPal does not return its processing fee (3.49% + $0.49) on refunds. On a $600–$700 phone, that's roughly $20–$26 that nobody reimburses — not PayPal, not the marketplace, not insurance. The seller absorbs it.

**4. The refund itself has a trap.** In PayPal, typing in a refund amount — even the exact amount you received — makes it a *partial* refund, and the marketplace's fee may not reverse fully. The clean path is the unedited full refund. Fixing it afterwards is a mess.

**5. Don't count on "seller protection" or platform support for this.** A refused delivery plus carrier damage fell outside seller protection in my case, and when I asked the platform how the remaining fees should be handled, I was pointed to PayPal.

**PayPal fee: yours. Shipping cost: yours. Damage to your item: yours.**

Practical takeaways: insure for full value, photograph and video your packing, think hard about which carrier you trust with high-value items, and price in the fee risk before you list. When a shipment goes bad, the residual loss lands on the seller.
