Hello!
I have a 2010 R56 S, with the N14 1.6 Turbo. The car displayed the issue a handful of times, twice ending up towed to the dealerships mechanics. In both situations they said that they were unable to identify the cause of the issue even though they reported to have it happen to them during testing. I understand dealerships are not the ideal place to take them but due to convenience and lack of other options on both instances, that's what happened.
The car has about 95000 km and generally speaking runs fine. Good power, no weird sounds and nothing noteworthy apart from what I believe could be considered a slight oil consumption. But this might be the normal for the car too. Nothing dramatic.
However, when I stop at an intersection or just stopped in traffic the engine stalls. It struggles a bit and dies. Might be when breaking and now twice after already stopped for a couple of seconds already. The tachometer fluctuates a little while its dying. The car struggles to start again. Only once it didn't and restarted right away. All other instances (about 5 or 6 now maybe) it struggled for a couple of tries throughout something like 3 to 4 minutes. The first time it was towed it refused to restart until the tow truck arrived (lets say, 30-ish minutes) and the second time it didn't manage to turn on even after the tow truck delivered it (3ish hours maybe). Two days later (on monday) when I tried again it turned on no problems and I drove it one block up to the mechanics. There it stayed the whole Monday and Tuesday (today) without them managing to find the issue.
When it was towed the first time It received a full oil change before it stalled with them and, afterwards, it received brand new spark plugs.
I do have the feeling that the shop is only reading codes and not doing anything and I do have a theory. But before deciding the next steps I would like to hear if this might be a know issue 😅
Summary: R56 1.6 N14 Turbo mini stalling out of nowhere. What might it be!?
