They say “sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic”. But sometimes… it’s just Magic.
My Adventures with Doctor Fate is a journey through the mystical underbelly of the established MAW universe. While Superman faces Earth-based sci-fi threats and Green Lantern explores epic space adventures, Khalid Nassour — a young sorcerer — discovers that ancient magic is very real, hidden just beneath the surface of everyday life. Mentored by the wise Inza and bound to the powerful entity Nabu, Khalid must protect a world that doesn’t even know it’s under threat.

The Players:
Khalid Kent Nassour
A 24-year-old third-year medical student at Columbia University, Khalid is an Egyptian-American from Brooklyn who has dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood. Raised in a dual-religion household, he built his own outlook around coexistence, mutual respect, and service. Sarcastic and playfully affectionate with his girlfriend Shaya, close to his parents, and prone to avoiding conflict when overwhelmed, he has worn his uncle Kent’s “lucky” Eye of Horus pendant for ten years without knowing that within, it holds the Helmet of Fate and a fragmented Nabu. At the start of the series he is still an ordinary young man balancing school, relationships, and personal hobbies, with no idea his latent magical potential is about to awaken.
Inza Nelson
Khalid’s maternal aunt and the widow of Kent Nelson, Inza is a powerful sorceress of Akkadian descent who once helped her husband master magic as Doctor Fate. She loved Kent deeply but came to despise the way Nabu routinely stripped him of agency, even while accepting that the role itself mattered. At the beginning of Season 1 she is still carrying the weight of that history and of Kent’s death; she has not yet been called back into active mentoring and remains wary of anything connected to the Helmet.
Nabu
At the start of the series Nabu exists only as a fragmented presence inside Khalid’s mind, with no clear memory of his past. He believes he may simply be a secondary personality that has lived silently alongside Khalid for a decade. Condescending, snarky, and eager to take control, he appears in Khalid’s own likeness because he currently lacks a distinct Ba of his own. The audience (and Khalid) do not yet know he is a Lord of Order whose power and identity were deliberately split and sealed ten years earlier.
Shaya Halim
A bright, wry, hard-headed 24-year-old medical student and aspiring neurosurgeon, Shaya has been dating Khalid since undergrad. Second-generation Indian-American and Hindu, she wears a red bindi more as fashion than strict observance and often stays in her scrubs out of practicality. She loves Khalid, shares an affectionate shorthand with him, and at the beginning of the season still has no idea he is about to become Doctor Fate or that a second consciousness lives inside him.
Akila Rashid
Khalid’s childhood friend since age ten, Akila is a devout Muslim who also embraces modern interests and is a talented programmer at TetchTech, hired directly by its CEO, Jervis Tetch. She has carried an unrequited crush on Khalid for a decade and is openly frustrated by his tendency to avoid her when uncomfortable. Politically passionate and quick to protest injustice, she is cordial with his parents, jealous of Shaya, and at the start of the series is simply the close friend who still hopes he might one day see her differently. She is the first to discover Khalid's magical ancestry, being with him when he first becomes Doctor Fate.
Todd Rice Scott
A lean, blue-collar mechanical engineer who works alongside his father Alan Scott at New York City Broadcasting, Todd is Khalid’s college friend and one of the group’s steadiest, kindest members when he is on his medication. Carrying long-standing trust issues and fragile self-worth from a difficult childhood of bullying due to his sexual orientation, he leans toward rehabilitation and second chances but has a darker side which can peak out. At the beginning of Season 1 he is simply a good friend who shares interest in video games and food adventures with Khalid—completely unaware of magic, the Helmet, or the future adventure that will eventually come for him.
Anubis
At the beginning of Season 1, Anubis appears only as a silent, watchful black jackal moving through New York. He observes acts of cruelty and kindness without speaking, lingering near moments of death, judgment, and moral weight. To Khalid and the others he is at first simply an unsettling animal presence tied to the worsening storm and his father, Mohammad’s, crisis. His true nature, motives, and capacity for speech remain hidden until later.
More to come soon :) Civilians, villains, heroes, and more!
