⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Slow drivers at 3:30-4am

Does anyone else regularly drive during the very early morning hours? Most people I come across drive like road blocks, speed limit 45 yet so many are driving 35. It’s a really simple straight road my entire 30 minute drive. I pass every single one. Slow drivers honestly make the roads more unsafe than drivers who go 10, 20, or more over.

Venting Roundabouts should require the use of turn signals.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Every day I (in red) use a roundabout. Very often, there is a guy (in blue) entering the roundabout just as I approach.

I can never tell whether this guy will turn right (path no. 1) or continue straight/turn left, crossing my path (path no. 2). Therefore, I have to come to a complete stop, just in case the guy goes across my path. Then, when he turns right, revealing that I never had to stop at all, it is annoying.

This uncertainty could be avoided if the guy has his turn signal on, so I know if he will cross my path. If he has his right signal on, I know I can continue forward and not have to stop at all.

I enjoy using roundabouts and they are becoming more and more common where I live. But I think to make the as efficient as they could be, it should be law to use your signal to indicate where you will exit, just like you would at a normal intersection.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ People aren’t always going fast because they’re running late

My biggest pet peeve when people are defending slow fucks behind the wheel is “if you’re in such a hurry leave earlier!!1!”

Over and over this is said like the only reason someone could possibly not want to travel at a snails pace is because they’re late.

I’m in a hurry because I want to get where I’m going. Now. I’ve never been late in my life; I’m very time conscious. That doesn’t mean I want to fart around or be inefficient just dawdling along

Is this true? You can’t turn into a turning lane? 2 pics

They deleted it but the rest of the comment said: assuming you’re the red car.

Drivers ED was a several months long mandatory thing in my state and I remember it being fine. Is it state by state? Also I’ve never heard it called a suicide lane whats that about?

edit: so I figured it out, it’s legal on the west coast and a few other random states. That explains the mixed results lol.

Need Advice New commute, how to pass the time?

I just got a new job and rather than biking to work I now have to drive 40 minutes each way, traffic depending.

How do people actually pass the time during their commute? Just radio? Music, audio books? I want to be productive with the 40 minutes but right now just feels like wasted time.

What would you do in this situation?

Let's say you are Car A.

You are on a dense highway with a speed limit of 65 mph. Every other lane is clocked exactly at 65 mph.

You are in Lane 1 going 73 mph, slowly, but actively passing all the cars cruising at 65 mph. However, you have a car in front of you going the exact same speed. You aren't right behind, but there are cars infront of you.

Soon, a lifted F-150 crawls right up your exhaust pipe, tailgates you aggressively, and starts flashing its high beams.

Even if you move out of the way, the truck will just be stuck behind the car that's in front of you anyway.

what do you do here?

  1. Ignore them: Keep your pace, maintain a safe distance from the car ahead, and let them flash away.
  2. Move over: Brake to match the 65 mph traffic, squeeze into a tight gap in Lane 2, and let the truck move up exactly one car length.
  3. Something else?

What would YOU do in this situation, and what is the actual logical thing to do?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ California…. *sigh*

I’m from Arizona and I’ve made several road trips up to Oregon this year. I always stop in California to rest (Sacramento, Redding, Chico, etc.), and I have to say California drivers are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve driven in a lot of different states and I’ve never experienced anything quite this bad.
I know this isn’t news to anyone, but good God… how did half of y’all get your licenses??
Nothing against Californians, but what is with cutting into a lane with one centimeter of space and no turn signal?? I can literally feel when someone wants to move over, so I leave them plenty of room. Instead they wait until I’ve already closed the gap, then force their way in. Seriously. WHYYYYY DO YALL DO THAT?? Or the classic: riding my ass when I’m already doing 15 over the limit.
The amount of people who just cut you off like there’s not a single other car on the road is insane. Then they force you to slam on your brakes and risk the person behind you rear ending you. A three car crash happened behind me just yesterday because of this exact behavior.
And don’t even get me started on the damn traffic.
We have our fair share of bad drivers in Arizona, but y’all are on a whole different level.
Rant over. lol

Need Advice Where do you prefer cars behind you to stop?

I see so many cars in my area being nose to nose when stopped and it makes me uncomfortable. I like to stop with small gap in between.
Do you care if a car is super close behind you or do you prefer people leaving space behind you?

Need Advice If the instructor gets angry for my mistakes, am I doing something wrong?

The driving instructor gets angry or very annoyed atleast when I make or repeat certain mistakes.

Like "why do you keep doing x!"

Also, some things are just impossible for me to change. Apparently I brake too hard and gas too hard when accelerating from a stop, but its the limit of how precise my foot can apply force and pressure.

I literally physically cannot do less braking force or gas because then nothing happens. Why does the instructor keep asking me and expected me to make an adjustment that is physically impossible for the level of foot control I have?

And why does he get angry when I repeat mistakes obviously not on purpose?

Am I doing something wrong in my learning process or is the instructor just a very stressed person

Need Advice What’s the 1 car length per10 mph, for trailers?

You know how the general rule of thumb is, stay 1 car length back for every 10 mph your going? Well what’s the rule if you’re towing a trailer? Do you include the trailer, or just stay back as far as the truck?

Need Advice Considering buying first car in the winter (east-coast USA). Advice?

So I just got my license this past spring (2026) since then I haven’t really driven at all since I don’t have any family or friends in the state I moved to last year who could help me with that. I’m thinking of taking a few more driving lessons next month and then getting a car to start driving on my own.
Here’s the thing. I wouldn’t be able to get a car until December earliest. I’m worried if learning to drive on my own in the winter is unrealistic and I should just wait until the spring. Any advice?

Need Advice In Wisconsin you’re supposed to “yield to the person on the right” does that result in people going clockwise or counter-clockwise order?

There is a very busy four-way stop on my commute home. That means it often ends up with the situation of “4 people arrive at the same time” and then you’re supposed to go around the circle waiting in the long lines. I’ve always been confident that the quote above means you take turns in a counter-clockwise order (lefty loosey). And if there’s three you start with whoever doesn’t have anybody on their right.

But a friend who I think is a fairly good driver seems to CONFIDENTLY think it’s clockwise (righty tighty) so I’m a bit confused by the wording of “yield to” in this context.

Now I have nothing against going clockwise, in fact I think it makes more sense to me, but counter-clockwise is just not how I was taught to do it. And everyone is always so confused at stop signs anyway so there’s not like a consistent pattern to observe. But my friend is very stubborn, so if I’m going to have her in my car again I think I better objectively figure out which one is correct.

EDIT: Thanks everyone who responded!

Turns out I’ve been doing it five ways wrong this whole time 🫪🪦

To be fair I googled it before even asking this and the AI also said counter-clockwise (which upon reading the rules didn’t seem right— hence why I posted). Now upon googling it, this very post jumps to the top and it has the correct answer! Thanks for making the world a TINY bit less confusing of a place and once again glad I never trust LLMs!

Need Advice How do you know how many hours you’re able to tolerate commuting for a new job?

Can someone please walk me through the factors to consider? I am having a severely hard time adjusting to the 1 hour with no traffic, 1 hour 30-50 minutes with traffic rush hour drive one way. Yes the pay matches what I’m looking for, I don’t have any other job options lined up. But this level of commute I’ve never done before and driving is not a boring or chill activity for me. Please how did you decide if you could continue a commute for about 1.5 hour average? Is this a skill issue/I’ll get used to it? How long will it take to get used to it? Thank you so much.

Need Advice The proper actions to take when an animal is in the road?

Honestly, this is the third time ive encountered an animal in the road and made a decision.

My drive home takes a highway that goes 55 mph, today I saw a large dog on the road he looked similar to a great dane. It was raining but not too much at the time, i swerved a little, i think I remained mostly in the lane and hit my brakes slowed down to about 45mph. And he went into a different lane. I also put hazards on for a moment to try and warn.

Now im just sitting in my car because 1., he probably got hit by another car, it was higher traffic day, 2. I braked without full awareness of the following distance a car behind me mightve had. I was lucky that they werent close to me. 3. It was raining and I could've hydroplaned with that swerve.

This isnt the first time, I was driving home saw a rabbit and swerved around it(no one was on the road at that time but still). I think ive done similar before.

I just want to know how I can work oit taking the safest course of action in the future i dont want to grt into an accident or cause another, i have my dog with me in the car and i dont wsnt him to get hurt. I just...know instinctual I want to dodge an animal and if id hit that dog idk what I should even do it feels so sad to see all the animals that have died on the road I drive each day. I know i have to take a stronger and resilient approach to driving to safely drive with others around.

Is there anything I can do to improve my decision making and not feel like each time i make a choice driving I just got lucky?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Why do some people go so slow on entrance ramps?

Am I going insane? It seems like there has been a rise in people going SLOW AF on interstate entrance ramps in my area. Why are we trying to merge into 70-80 mph traffic going 40 mph? Is it a lack of awareness? Nervous drivers? I've been behind vehicles that have straight up stopped at the end of the entrance ramp because it was unsafe to merge into traffic at the speed they were going. THEN, I had to try and continue from a dead stop because I was behind them. IF THEY WOULD HAVE USED THEIR GAS PEDAL IN THE FIRST PLACE, THIS WOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE. There's no way it's that hard to figure out.

Need Advice Item to see corner of car

Recently got my permit and I'm currently learning to drive. I have ~8-10 hrs under my belt at this point, and I'm pretty happy with my progress. One thing I've been struggling with, however, is getting a feel for where the rightmost side of my car is and where the front ends. I think this is partly because my car's hood is angled pretty steep, so you can only see the nearest few inches of it while at the wheel. A front view camera helps for parking and such, but I feel like I rely on it too much.

I'm trying to find a simple decor or some object that I can pop onto the farthest, rightmost corner of my car hood. Anyone have some ideas or suggestions, or maybe even a product you've used for this exact purpose?
Preferably something that can withstand moving up to 50mph without flying off, but is also removable without destroying a corner of my car's paint job.

Any advice or ideas would be amazing. Thank you!

Venting PSA: Schools buses without their yellow/red lights activated are not special. Treat them like any other vehicle on the road when it comes to right of way.

*School buses.

So I'm a newish school bus driver, started driving this school year. I've noticed that a number of drivers with the right of way stop in the middle of the road to let me turn first. No. We're just like any other vehicle out there if our lights are not flashing. Stopping to let us turn first is unnecessary and annoying to the drivers behind you. Be predictable when driving first, not nice.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ TURN SIGNALS, PLEASE!

I was driving in a school zone and met up with a large semi truck across from me. I was turning right and he stopped before me. He didn’t have any turn signals on and so I figured since we would cross paths at all, I’d go. He gestures at me like I’m crazy, because apparently he was turning the same way too? He didn’t have his signal on, so i figured he was going straight, at first he did (because of his vehicle, it had to go forward then turn so the back wouldn’t hit anything else) then turned in the same way?! No collision or a scratch, but seriously, a signal for a car like that would be pretty helpful.

Learner, how to improve foot precision control?

I have driven for about 13 hours total now. And still, there is one thing that does not seem to ever improve:my foot precision control.

I brake too hard and I gas too hard. I literally cannot do less because then nothing happens.

My foot is on the gas or brake pedal. Nothing happens. I move it veryveryvery slowly as carefully as possible and then suddenly, the engine revs to 3 or 4 000 RPM, or the brake pedal overreacts and the car stops rapidly.

Seems I cannot be precise. I blame the lesson car for being so sensitive too but maybe I also lack footcontrol.

Are all cars like this? one super slight touch and the car accelerates or decelerates very rapidly?

Are there any exercises I can do at home to improve the precision of my foot? I think its something to do with whichever muscle lifts the foot up, because gravity alone pushes the pedals too deep in already.

Need Advice My car got t-boned and the other part was at fault

So, I have never been in an accident before. I’m so shaken up. So, I was turning right and my right turn light was green. This huge SUV passed through his red light and crashed into my car. My car was damaged but I have come out relatively unscathed. Just some back pain from the impact. I think it’s a miracle. The damage could’ve been a lot worse. I’m going to the doctors tomorrow for my back. I was able to drive after that but I will definitely need to go to panel beater tomorrow because the car wasn’t driving as smoothly. The other party admitted fault. I will be making a third party damage claim against their insurance because I don’t have comprehensive insurance. I just have the one for personal injuries which I’m going to use. It might be my stupidity but I didn’t know that comprehensive insurance was separate. I’m originally from another country with different insurance system.

I’m just looking for some advice and reassurance. I’m genuinely quite quite shaken up because I’m a safe driver and have only been driving for 2 years.

Need Advice Waving someone through traffic?

What are ur thoughts on someone or yourself trying to get waved through 2 or more lanes of traffic coming out of a side street or parking lot or sum?

Would you let them through or do you do this yourself?

tbh I wouldn’t wanna be liable if someone in another lane hits them or sum so I wouldn’t

and I’ve never tried this myself because I’ve been in an accident with a friend driving because of ppl waving someone through (we were at a light and she assumed everyone was just stopped for it)

But I see this happen a lot and wanted see others opinions

Near Miss Car Accident - I feel so guilty

Hey guys, on my way to the bus stop to which I normally drive to I had a near accident when I got on the roundabout to make the first exit. The driver on the roundabout (it was a small roundabout so you can't really accelerate on it) and their indicator on to signal but I though that they were going to make the exit that was before and so I misjudged and went on the roundabout and had the driver of the vehicle not slowed themselves down we would have crashed. (if you are the driver I am so sorry for the whole situation). Turns out the driver was exiting the roundabout onto the same exit that I was (which is a local park that most locals just park their car to take the bus) I freaked out and parked my car away from the car behind me and took a solid 5 to 10 minutes in my car freaking out and trying to calm myself down. I didn't see the owner of the car get out the vehicle and once I had some what composed myself I went to the bus stop and I noticed a car getting out of the car park and just kept walking. I honestly beat myself up because I should have approached the car and apologised to the driver but I was a complete mess and I couldn't think straight at all. Once I got on the bus as the bus drove past the car park I noticed that the car I had a near miss with wasn't in the car park anymore and started freaking out. Its been like almost three hours since this incident I still feel so guilty and I can't even concentrate. This is the first time that I have ever had just a near miss accident in my life and I'm about to get my opens soon too (i've been driving on my P's for 2.5 years now) and I keep beating myself up about this I don't know how to proceed. I feel so guilty for scaring the driver because of my misjudgement. I take full responsibility for my actions I just feel so guilty for potentially scaring the other driver and putting us both in such a frightening situation. I feel like I shouldn't never drive at all anymore too and I don't know how to continue on about this.

Need Advice Looking for a type of vehicle

I'm looking for a street legal type of vehicle for getting back and forth to work. It's not a long drive and I can take back roads but it's still pretty busy

I feel like I don't know where my edges are in a typical car and a motorcycle seems like a death trap

I've thought about an e bike, but I can't balance well. Golf carts and quad bikes aren't street legal in Michigan iirc

Maybe I'm just being picky, but any advice would be amazing
