IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, you must provide PROOF of ID (proof of identification tells our community you’re actually you— and not someone else pretending to be you!). Please [ contact the mods ] of this sub to have us set up an AMA thread for you. Please read our AMA requirements, how-to, etc → [ HERE ]

AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the London, Ontario reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives London, ON redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges.

CANDIDATE MEET-&-GREET Q & A, DEBATES, etc
Candidate "meet & greets," debates, & other meetings are usually organized by local community groups or business associations.

The Urban League of London in collaboration with RogersTV will be hosting all candidate meetings for each of the city’s 14 wards to help keep Londoners informed. Meetings will take place between Sept. 9 and Oct. 1.
Below are the video links for each debate:

Municipal Elections 2026 Is it a race between Morgan and Stevenson?

(Please don’t rip me to shreds, it’s my first time being able to vote in a mayoral election)

I would much prefer to vote for a more left leaning candidate than Josh Morgan but DO NOT want to risk Susan Stevenson being elected.

I don’t have a lot of context on history and popularity of these candidates, but a left split vote can cost and has costed big time other elections.

It also seems so strangely difficult to clearly find candidates views and specific strategies?

Would appreciate some guidance on how this kind of this may go!

discussion / opinion The London Spine Line

The London Spine Line takes many previous proposals and forms the best and most straightforward corridor for a North/South rapid transit line in London, ON.

Connecting two major Malls at its ends, a huge university, Downtown, and everything in between, this really should not be a fantasy. But it is.

Looking at London's grid, and comparing it to even smaller Ontario cities, it's apparent that the network is badly underdeveloped.

London is the largest city in Ontario without an expressway or freeway running through it. London is also the largest city in Canada without any rapid transit.

This has been debilitating for Londoners and their local road network, which are facing more constraint than ever, as London's population has reached 500,000, while it's urban core grid is the same as the 1950's. It is incredibly frustrating that just a decade ago, London had a chance with rapid transit, but city council rejected the opportunity.

At the same time, Waterloo Region approved the iON light rail and subsequently started its construction. As of 2026 it now has a successful and relatively cheap 19km LRT that has uplifted their central North/South spine and brought about a BILLION DOLLARS in total investment into the region. And this is where our proposal for London, the spine line, gets its inspiration from.

If a smaller metropolitan centre has it, why cant London?

Because we gave power to the wrong people and got exactly what we asked for. Elections are tomorrow, vote FOR transit.

discussion / opinion JH supermarket, what are you thoughts on it?

To those that have visited the new Asian supermarket that opened on Oct 23, what are your thoughts?

To me the prices are expensive compared to the other Asian stores, so I don't think I would be going to it and the location is really inconvenient, it was so annoying trying to enter and exit, it took like 15 minutes just trying to get out because of the traffic.

POLL Piercer Recs

ISO piercer recs

I’ve had some botched piercings before and I’d like to make sure I go to someone who has a lengthy history of not leaving their clients with crooked holes 🥰

I live closer to St Marys so I’d take out of town or Stratford recs as well.

ps. I know it’s not that serious but in the city I grew up in, we had 10 piercers but I learned there was only 1 you go to for quality work (and it wasn’t the one I saw lmfao)

Municipal Elections 2026 London’s 2026 municipal election: what does the research actually say about candidates’ housing, transit, and public-safety policies?

With London’s municipal election on October 26, I wanted to compare some candidates’ actual policy commitments.

These issues matter to London residents, including Western students dealing with rent, unreliable transit, and the consequences of decisions made at City Hall.

1. Homelessness: housing outcomes versus enforcement

A Canadian randomized trial published in JAMA Network Open found that Housing First combined with intensive case management produced approximately 140 additional days of stable housing per participant over the study period, compared with usual services. It also reduced expenditures elsewhere in the service system, although it did not fully pay for itself.

This makes it important to examine whether candidates propose funded, permanent housing solutions alongside emergency services and public-safety measures.

For example:
Sam Trosow (Ward 6) proposes increasing investment in non-market housing, addressing tenant displacement, and improving transit.
Zack Ramsey (Ward 2) advocates more supportive and public housing, tenant organizing, and expanded community crisis-response services.
Tom Cull (Ward 4) proposes tenant displacement prevention, supportive housing, and assistance for residents facing redevelopment.

At the mayoral level, Susan Stevenson emphasizes recovery-oriented services, sober housing options, enforcement, and financial oversight. Josh Morgan proposes expanding supportive and other housing, while Bronagh Joyce Morgan emphasizes improving homelessness service contracts, directing resources to frontline work, and measuring outcomes.

These proposals deserve scrutiny on their implementation and funding, not just their stated intentions.

2. Public transit is an accessibility issue

A peer-reviewed quasi-experimental study published in the Journal of Public Transportation found a 35% ridership increase on routes receiving Bus Rapid Transit compared with conventional routes during one study period.
That does not guarantee the same result in London, but it provides evidence worth considering when evaluating rapid-transit investments.

Sam Trosow proposes greater transit operating support and longer-term higher-order transit planning. Josh Morgan proposes completing rapid transit corridors and expanding service hours. Bronagh Morgan proposes practical improvements to transit accessibility, while Susan Stevenson proposes improved transportation planning and a business case for serving industrial areas.

The questions should be: How much additional service will residents actually receive? Where will the funding come from? Will the improvements reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, education, and essential services?

3. Housing supply matters, but affordability needs to be measured

A 2024 study in the Journal of Urban Economics found that relaxing certain zoning restrictions increased housing units and floor space by approximately 9% over five to ten years in the studied areas. The findings also demonstrate that the effects of zoning reform depend on policy design and take time to emerge.

Ben Durham (Ward 3) advocates missing-middle housing, including duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes. Other candidates emphasize supportive housing, conversions of vacant buildings, or public and non-market housing.

These aren’t interchangeable solutions. Adding housing supply, protecting existing tenants, and creating deeply affordable units address different parts of the problem.

4. Public-health policy needs evidence, not slogans

A 2025 peer-reviewed Canadian systematic review found that supervised consumption services prevent overdose deaths onsite, while evidence concerning their effects on population-wide overdose mortality was mixed and depended on geographic scale and implementation.

Candidates proposing different approaches to substance use and homelessness should explain what outcomes they expect, how those outcomes will be measured, and how they will coordinate housing, healthcare, prevention, treatment, and community safety.

5. Comparing candidates without treating endorsements as evidence

The London and District Labour Council has published endorsements based on its candidate evaluation process. Separately, other organizations and social-media accounts have published their own preferred candidates.

Those endorsements can provide information about organizational priorities, but they shouldn’t replace reading platforms, examining council voting records, and checking claims against primary sources.

Similarly, serious personal allegations circulated online shouldn’t be treated as established facts without independently verifiable evidence.

My main questions for every candidate are:
How many additional permanently affordable homes will your policies deliver?
How will you prevent residents from losing existing affordable housing?
What measurable improvements will your transit commitments produce?
How will you evaluate homelessness and public-safety spending?
What funding, timelines, and accountability mechanisms support your promises?l

I’m interested in evidence-backed comparisons, including credible criticisms of specific policy proposals or council voting records. Which commitments are realistic, properly funded, and most consistent with the research? And what evidence challenges them?

Election Day: Monday, October 26, 2026, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.

Things to Do Title: Anyone down to watch El Clásico today? ⚽️

Hey everyone!
I’m thinking of heading to one of bars to catch El Clásico (Real Madrid vs Barcelona) today at 4 PM.
I usually watch games at home, but figured it’d be more fun watching with other football fans, especially for a game like this.
I’m 25M, and it’d be cool to meet some fellow soccer fans in London. Doesn’t matter if you’re a Madrid or Barça supporter 😂
Anyone interested in joining or already planning to watch somewhere? Let me know!

POLL What should London’s East/West primary rapid transit corridor be?

There are proposals for a North/South London Spine Line and a lot of people are already thinking forward: what should London’s primary East/West rapid transit corridor be?

We can only have one primary East/West line, and once built it has a level of permanence for future generations to rely on.
