Is Universal Clipboard this unreliable for everyone?

I have a MacBook Air (M5, macOS 26) and an iPhone (iOS 27), signed into the same Apple ID, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Handoff all on.

Universal Clipboard only works about half the time for me. Copying on the Mac and pasting on the iPhone usually works, but copying on the iPhone and pasting on the Mac often just silently fails — nothing shows up. Restarting the Mac fixes it for a while, then it breaks again.

Is this just how it is, or is there a fix that actually sticks?

Is a 13-inch MacBook with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage enough for marketing and Adobe Creative Cloud?

Hello everyone!
I am looking at purchasing a MacBook and would appreciate some advice from people who work or study in marketing, communications, graphic design or other creative fields.

I am currently working in childcare but am exploring a future career in marketing, with an interest in brand strategy, communications, media and PR, and potentially event planning.

I recently spoke with someone from a marketing team who mentioned using Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications. This got me thinking about what laptop would be best to invest in as I work towards this career change.

The MacBook configuration I am considering is:
• 13-inch display
• 16GB unified memory
• 512GB SSD storage

I already own an iPad, so I am leaning towards a MacBook because I like the idea of having everything within the Apple ecosystem and being able to work between the two devices.

I would mainly want to use it for things such as:
• Adobe Photoshop and other Creative Cloud applications
• Marketing and communications coursework
• Graphic design and brand development
• Social media content creation
• General business and productivity tasks

I am not sure yet how heavily I will use creative software, particularly if I eventually move into more design-intensive work.

My questions are:
1. Would 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage be sufficient for these tasks?
2. Is a 13-inch MacBook practical for marketing work, or would a larger display be worth considering?
3. Would you recommend a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro for this type of workload?
4. Is there anything you wish you had considered before purchasing your own laptop for marketing or creative work?

I would appreciate honest advice, particularly from people who use Adobe applications regularly or work in marketing professionally.

Thank you!

Few years back I got my first macbook. And the way I'm using this machine, despite it having 8gb ram, I don't think I'll be able to switch to windows ever. (I used windows for nearly 15 years before I got this M2)

My next laptop for personal use, wherever I may get it will surely be a mac. I deal with windows on my office computer and the number of times i had to fix issues is uncountable, like audio drivers missing after an update. Sometimes the mic going off. Or even the laptop restarting randomly.

Never faced an issue with mac,and mine has been used really heavily.

Like I frequently get around 16gb of swap usage.

13” M4 Air 16/1000 or 14” base M4 Pro MacBook Pro 24/512

Hi there,

As in the title. I own both and I know that Pro is superior in many ways (screen, speakers, RAM, speed) and I’m trying to force myself to use it, but I keep coming back to the Air - it just feels better… I would kill cross the street on red light for an Air with MiniLED screen…

What’s your opinion? Should I just sell the Pro and be done with this dilemma?

I need a secondary Macbook Air for my classes - What should I buy?

Basically, I need a Macbook Air for school very soon and I'm not sure what chip to go for. I need the computer for at least 3 years and I've already decided on a 13 inch 16/512 configuration to suit my needs. A lot of it will be web browsing and simple things like that, however I'll also be doing some coding, light video editing, watching lots of videos and maybe a bit of gaming on the side. A good battery is also very important. I was looking at an M2 or M3 Macbook Air but I'll definitely consider some other choices.

The reason I'm not going for a newer laptop is because for all my other things I do at home, I've already got a Macbook Pro M5 24GB/1TB 14 inch which I won't need to upgrade for a long time.

Thank you!

I'm in Australia btw and the difference is a few hundred AUD between the equivalent spec M2 and M3.

Refurbished MacBook for senior citizen

Hi, I’m looking to get a refurbished MacBook for my mom. She currently has a refurbished 2017 MacBook Pro. She uses it for email, zooms with family, internet browsing, photo storage, etc. Her current computer is running loud and hot and she’s ready to replace it. I looked at the Neos but I think at her age, it makes more sense to get something she’s comfortable with. Any recommendations? Should I look at MacBook Airs with min 16 GB Ram? (I meant to check how much ram she has now and how much memory she’s using.) that said, we share 1 TB iCloud storage on a family plan with one other. I haven’t ventured into MacBook territory since 2020 when I bought a refurbished pro for myself (and it’s starting to get cranky too!). Would appreciate any tips, suggestions and specifics. I plan on getting the refurbished item from Apple, but also open to other tried and true spots where I don’t need to have lots of skills exploring a used item on person.

MacBook Air M5 midnight blue 24/1TB, ordered

Hello people. I have just ordered my MacBook Air M5. and I’m waiting for it, so excited. Just FYI, I’m coming from MacBook 16 2019 and I have some questions.

First question, how about some light gaming how about League of Legends? Second question, have any of you any experience with the DJing software and more specific tractor control? Also, how do you feel the temperature when you push the device?

Do you have any suggestions or anything to notice coming from Intel MacBook to M5 MacBook?

p.s. please hype me up!

Should I buy a used M2 MacBook Air (16GB RAM) for $590 or get a new M5 Air?

I'm leaving my current job, and my company has offered to sell me the MacBook Air I've been using. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth buying or whether I should put that money toward a newer MacBook.

Here's my situation:

  • Used M2 MacBook Air: 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD — approximately $590.
  • New M5 MacBook Air: $1,400 starting price for the base 13-inch model where I live
  • My current personal laptop: M1 MacBook Air, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. I was thinking of giving this to my sibling for their school
  • My new work laptop: MacBook Pro with an M5 chip, which I'll use for my job.

I'm a software engineer, and I want my personal laptop for side projects, software development, experimenting with AI tools, researching business ideas, and potentially building some small products of my own.

Since I'll already have a powerful work laptop, I don't necessarily want to spend a lot on a personal machine that I won't use for my day job. However, I also want something that will last for a few years.

The main thing I'm unsure about is whether the M2 Air with 16GB RAM is still a sensible purchase in 2026.

Cambiar Air 15 por 14pro.

• Upvotes

MacBook Pro M1 (2020)

• Upvotes

Hello all! Thinking about getting a new MacBook. My current MacBook does everything I need (school, streaming) but I’ve been hearing that my Mac might lose support and updates soon, which worries me. This is my first MacBook, and I absolutely love it. I see that the airs are now $1200+ and the pros are $1999+. I bought mine for just slight over a g back in 2021, so the new prices are crazy. I would be looking at a neo possibly, but am not sure I should make the jump. The backlit keys is a downside for me. I have always been fine with my base model, as I don’t do any rendering or video editing. Any thoughts? Is there any point in getting a new one? There’s nothing wrong with my current Mac, and it still performs as well as it did when it was brand new.

M5 MacBook Pro now or wait for M6?

• Upvotes

I’m planning to get a macbook pro with the base chip (24gb/1tb) for a new workflow i’m moving into, so the config is pretty much settled. What i can’t decide is the timing

My current mac still works for what i do now, but it’s right at its limit. It slows down development, limits what i can run at the same time, and i end up putting off building and testing things because i know it won’t cope. It definitely won’t be enough for where my workflow is heading, especially as i start exploring dev and ai stuff

The m6 was just announced, but in my country new macs usually arrive 2–3 months after the global launch, so it probably won’t be here until around january. Meanwhile the m5 is available now

I can hold out a few more months if it’s worth it, but i’d rather not wait without a good reason. Now that we know what the m6 brings, is it worth waiting for, or should i just buy the m5 now?

Keep MacBook powered off (Ctrl+Cmd+Shift didn't work)

• Upvotes

How do I prevent a MacBook Air 2024 from powering on whenever any key is pressed? Latest macOS at time of writing.

I tried the suggestion of holding Left Ctrl + Left Cmd + R Shift for 7 seconds, then those plus Power for an additional 7 seconds and then let go. Screen turned pink briefly then shut down. But as soon as I wiped keys, it powered back on.

I logged what my M1 MacBook Air actually does during a 4K export, a big download and 15 minutes of full CPU load

• Upvotes

I've been poking at power and sleep behaviour on my M1 Air (8 cores, fanless) and logged a few common workloads minute by minute. Some of it surprised me, so sharing.

1. 15 minutes of full CPU load on all 8 cores

`sudo powermetrics --samplers thermal` reported the thermal pressure level as **Nominal** in every sample, 30 samples over 15 minutes. A 10-minute run looked the same. So macOS never flagged it as "under thermal pressure", even with no fan. The chassis got warm, of course, but the system didn't consider it a problem.

2. Exporting a 4K 60 fps HEVC video in CapCut

- CPU averaged only about 1.1–1.5 cores out of 8, with one short spike near 2. My guess is the hardware video encoder does most of the work.

- CapCut wrote a steady 380–410 MB per minute to disk.

- CapCut never showed up in `pmset -g assertions`, so it didn't ask macOS to stay awake while exporting. Worth knowing if your Mac is set to sleep after some idle time and you walk away from a long export.

3. Downloading a big file

- `curl` limited to 5 MB/s: CPU around 0.8–1.3 cores, about 300 MB/min written.

- The same kind of download in a browser: 420–470 MB/min.

4. "Idle" isn't really idle

With nothing running, normal apps wrote at most ~25 MB/min, and only now and then. But Photos (`photolibraryd`) peaked at almost 300 MB/min and Spotlight at ~70 MB/min in the background. If your Mac feels busy while you're doing nothing, those two are good suspects.

Measured with `powermetrics`, `pmset -g assertions`, `top` and a small Python script that reads per-process disk writes. Happy to post the commands if anyone wants to compare with their machine.

Has anyone actually seen an M-series Air report thermal pressure above Nominal? Curious what it takes.

Is the MacBook Neo still worth buying, or should I wait?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I’m thinking about buying a MacBook Neo and wanted to get some opinions, especially from people who already own one or have had the chance to try it.
I’m a university student and my needs are pretty basic. I’d mainly use it for writing documents in Word, taking notes during lectures, using ChatGPT for research and studying, and occasionally watching movies or TV shows. I don’t really need anything particularly powerful.
Just to clarify, I’m not interested in getting an iPad. I’ve already owned one with a keyboard but I honestly didn’t enjoy using it. I’d much rather have an actual laptop.
I’ve also considered other options, like a refurbished MacBook Air M2 or M3, but they’re a bit over my budget. Plus I’d honestly prefer buying something brand new rather than refurbished.
My main concern is whether the MacBook Neo is still a good purchase right now or if it would be better to wait. Do you think there’s a chance Apple might release a MacBook Neo 2 anytime soon? And if so, would it be worth waiting for the next generation?
Alternatively, would I be better off saving up a little more money and going for a refurbished MacBook Air instead?
Considering how basic my needs are, I’m mainly looking for a reliable laptop that will last me several years without making me regret my purchase.
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

I wish Apple made a 15-inch MacBook Pro, because I can’t decide between the Air’s size and the Pro’s display

I’m thinking about getting a new MacBook, and I really love the 15-inch MacBook Air. The size is just right, it’s thin and light, and it has more than enough power for me.

But there’s one thing I can’t get over: the display.

The Air’s screen is noticeably worse than the MacBook Pro’s, and even compared to the iMac, the difference is pretty huge. You can already see it in the specs, but it’s even more obvious when you see them side by side at an Apple Store.

Display Feature MacBook Air 15" MacBook Pro 14"
Display Liquid Retina Liquid Retina XDR
Panel IPS LCD Mini-LED
Resolution 2880 × 1864 3024 × 1964
Refresh Rate 60Hz Up to 120Hz
SDR Brightness 500 nits Up to 1000 nits
HDR Peak Brightness — Up to 1600 nits

Now I’m really torn. I love the Air’s size and portability, and I don’t really need the extra power of the Pro. But I’m worried that I’ll regret getting the Air because of the screen.

At the same time, getting a Pro just for the display feels a bit excessive.

What would you do? Am I overthinking this, or is the better display really worth it?

Linux Mint or Chrome Flex on a MacBook 2017 13"?

Hi,

I have bought an old MacBook 2017 off eBay for peanuts - £40, and I'd like to make use of it. What I'd love is for something to run media streaming apps like DAZN (for NFL), now TV, Disney etc. via a browser. Do you think it's more likely that I'll get smoother videos via something like Firefox on Linux Mint, or Google Chrome on Chrome Flex?

Macbook pro m5 Trackpad problems

Hey guys, today i got my new m5 pro macbook (first ever mac) and i noticed that the trackpad often wouldnt click on the first touch/pressure on both sides (left+right) the problem is only relatively on the edge, sometimes it clicks and reacts and the next it doesnt, normal pressure and angle. On the top and the bottom it feels normal and it reacts without any problems on the edge.

Are there any people who had similar problems, or am i just not used to it, but idk it kinda feels of for me because its only on the sides.

Appreciate any answer that could help me :))

M1 MBP Laggy??!!!

So, for some reason, whenever I play Roblox (yes I play it), it starts off just fine and runs at a smooth 60 FPS, after 2-3 minutes of game play, it moves down to 20. Idk why, idk how. There are no background applications running and the M1 isn't thermal throttling, stays around 65-70 degrees celsius. Any reasons as to why and are there fixes? Space Grey M1 MacBook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Storage.

Ive set the limit to 80% in the MB setting and the same for AlDente, it still keeps on charging to 100% over night.

When at 100% AlDente keeps on switching between minus and pause.

Any suggestions?

2015 15” Macbook Pro…sell for parts or upgrade and then sell it?

I have a 2015 15” MBP whose battery went bad, so I removed it before it lit on fire, and just replaced the whole Macbook with a newer one. My daughter's MBP hard drive died, so I took the hard drive from the one with no battery and was able to fix hers. Now I have a Macbook with no hard drive and no battery. Am I better off selling it as is-for parts, or should I replace the battery and hard drive to sell it in working condition?

I should also add that it is the top of the line one that had to be custom ordered to get the specs that it has, so it is a more rare one, but not sure who is still out there buying 2015 Macbooks.

How in the world do you get sidecar to function properly?

Hello, I've recently got an ipad to carry around and use as a portable monitor for my mac. I even updated my mac from Sequioa to Golden Gate to "somewhat" make the version of Mac and ipadOS similair to each other, but my God. This never works, always get this pop up.

I've tried the following

  1. Signing in and out of Apple account on both devices
  2. Updated mac
  3. Use a cable (can't get it to work wired either)

Real frustrated at this. Any fixes for it?

"More space" display scaling = high GPU usage?

Does more space scaling affect performance? mine's MBP M5 pro.
