This is part of an ongoing series looking into the galaxy of Mass Effect, and all the strange environments we see, or don't see, throughout the course of the trilogy. See my first post here for more details.
Galaxy Map - Day #6 - Nimbus Cluster
Explorable: ME3 Only
Territory: Outer Council Space
Systems: 4 (Agaiou, Kallini, Mesana, Pelion)
Name Inspiration:
Everything in the cluster is named in the asari fashion, with the known names including mythological heroes, mythologised historic figures, and gods. We don't usually hear a lot about non-major religions and mythological figures besides Athame and some of the drell pantheon from Thane, so these lore tidbits are always neat to chew on.
Some Points of Interest
Lessus - The world that hosts an Ardat-Yakshi Monastery aka "this is where Mass Effect 3 turns into a horror game". Despite being over 1800 years old the colony is deliberately kept fairly small, I'm guessing so that if any AY escape the monastery it's harder for them to hide amongst the crowds. Or maybe just because it's a world with poor soil, virulent diseases, and slightly-too-high-for-comfort gravity and the asari have better prospects. Unclear.
Carcosa - Another world with a long-dead alien civilization on it, although this one looks to have not been the fault of the Reapers. The asari researching the ruins believed that the previous inhabitants accidentally destroyed their world with a runaway greenhouse effect from over-industrialisation and pollution before the Reapers ever got around to them.
Trategos - A frozen ocean world, with seas that remain liquid only at the equator. The asari colonists of the planet used their submarines to hide from the Reapers beneath the sea ice, and fought a guerilla war against them by attacking from beneath the waves.
Vylius - bears the name of an asari mythological trickster (because every culture has to have a designated Tricksy Bastard) who… seduces young maidens and then forces them to give birth to hideously deformed offspring. This charming tale is used as a warning to young maidens not to mate carelessly.
Discussion:
The huskified asari are pretty scary, and we see the huskified versions of a handful of other races - the rachni, turians, and batarians, as well as the krogan-turian hybrid Brutes. We don't see any of the other races huskified though - which of the other races would you have liked to see in husk form? What kind of enemy do you envision them being?
