I am looking to get my sister a way to play Frogger (1997) specifically. We played it as a kid on PS1 and for Christmas I’d like to find a way to get the game for her.
Is the best way to buy a playstation one or two and the game? I see there are emulators and stuff online, she doesn’t have a pc. Is there anything that I could make easy and plug and play for her?
I’m looking for a reasonably priced projector for retro gaming. I want to connect it to my MacBook Pro M4 Pro and play emulated retro games on a big screen.
My main priority is low input lag, especially for fast-paced games like platformers, fighting games, and classic action games. I don’t need a high-end home theater projector, just something affordable that delivers a smooth and responsive gaming experience.
Ideally, I’m looking for:
Low input lag for responsive gameplay.
A decent image quality and resolution.
Good value for money — nothing too expensive.
Compatibility with my MacBook Pro M4 Pro.
Does anyone have recommendations for budget-friendly projectors that work well for retro gaming? Are there any specific models I should look at, or features I should prioritize to minimize input lag?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions or personal experiences. Thanks!
Hi there, university student here whose come looking for an interviewee for an ethnographic project about retro games. For this, more preferably, I am looking for someone who has experience with retro video games(why I cam here), especially someone who has played/collected older consoles like the NES or SNES(any others like atari, sega genesis, n64 work too). My goal is to learn about your personal experiences, memories, opinions, and what you think makes retro gaming authentic.
At the moment, I'm only looking for one interviewee but I might need more as the project develops, so if anyone can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
The interview would have to be tomorrow(10/23), pst time, somewhere around 2pm to 5pm (not saying thats how long it will last, these are just the times I'm available to do it). Also, the interview will not be through zoom or anything like that instead it'll be through plain chat dms here on reddit.
And just in advance, my apologies if I type too all over the place, awkward or something of the sort. This is my first time doing this sorta thing so I'm not really good at it. sorry and thank you in advance again
(Also, mods, please don't remove this post, at least for a day or two, if this post is actually against the rules. I'm just a student trying to get an assignment done and idk what other community on here I could ask about this)
EDIT: I just got an interviewee so if anyone else has interest there still may be a chance in a couple of days that I may need more. For the meantime, hold tight
Hey guys i think we need to have this conversation about pixelated fighting video games,i kinda miss the old-gen videogame graphics, like street fighter 3rd strike and Kof:the orochi saga,Can we have this conversation?
I just became a dad of 2 and have very limited time on my hands and feel a classic retro game (any console pre gen 7) with a solid story and suitable combat would fit my life good right now so wondering what is recommended
searched :I've searched on sites like Abandon Shareware, the Internet Archive, the Wayback Machine, the backup of their website in Chinese and English, even under every rock. and with less success due to language barriers onbilibili.com
Developed by the Taiwanese company Sunplus, Native 32 was a gaming system that came bundled with DVD and other media players. The games, aimed at children, featured colorful graphics and simple gameplay. They were typically bilingual and could be downloaded from the web (archive).
Due to the "recent" release of two emulators, Native32Emu which is quite comprehensive and includes a core for RetroArch, y n32emu, which, even though it's still in its early stages, looks very promising.
I'm looking for/trying to find the complete set of games. Most of them can be downloaded from the online archive:
Downloads from the website's backup are only available for: Baseball.7z, girl time show.7z, and Travel Monopoly.7z. And AllGame070927.rar is also available, but these games are already included on the CD.
I haven't been able to download this backup from pan.baidu(pswd: 6666), Apparently, there are some versions in Chinese. I can't download it. If anyone is able to upload it to a Western cloud service, I'd appreciate it.
But there are still a few missing—the ones I'm looking for:
Website, these were only available for download.
city master.7z / 盖大楼.7z
Anime Fighting.7z / 动漫大乱斗.7z
FightsLandlord.7z / 斗地主.7z
Exclusive to Philips, there are 10 games left that are only available on Philips players. Philips DVD players.
Basketball.
Bubble.
Football.
Why?
Mole Hunting.
Pong.
Pair Match.
Puzzle Tetris.
Snowball Fight.
Water Park.
Games in Chinese, as far as I understand, most games are bilingual, but there are some that have separate versions in English and Chinese. I can't find them; maybe they're on Baidu's backup site.
Interestingly, the V3.0 version comes on two discs, and I only have one; maybe the other games are on the disc I'm missing.
Although I suspect they might be on this V3.2 disc and, obviously, on the Philips GAMES disc (On the right, this one has 10 games).
Here are some Philips DVD models with Native 32; PD7012G/37, PD7010/12, PD7010/05, PD703/37.
I would appreciate any help or links that might help me find them, Or if you know of any Chinese gaming websites that cover this topic, they can also be useful for your search.
I mean specifically games that provided means for modding them. (edit: nevermind that, anything goes) I know a couple already, Doom and Thief, I'm curious what other communities are out there people know of.
SimCity 2000 is one of those games I keep coming back to. There’s something about its little isometric buildings, soundtrack and newspaper stories that never gets old.
I’m Daniel, and I’ve been working on Reticulating Splines, a free, open-source project built on Nicholas Ochoa’s OpenSC2K. His work made this possible.
The idea is to keep the familiar SC2000 experience while adding optional extras: day/night lighting, weather, more convenient tools and multiplayer, which is currently in beta. You can import the graphics, music and sounds from your own supported copy, or use the included replacement assets. You can also leave the enhancements off for a more classic experience.
This is a modern reimplementation for Windows, Linux and macOS, rather than a patch for the DOS executable. It’s still in development, and feedback from people who know the original well would be especially welcome.
For transparency: I’m not a programmer. I use OpenAI Codex extensively for development, alongside my own planning and testing. AI has also been used for replacement artwork and promotional materials.
The game aims to bring back the excitement of classic minesweeper, as well as offering new ways to play with a variety of game modes.
It also offers several modern quality-of-life features like leaderboards, hints and a choice of visual styles.
With over 20,000 players and Very Positive reviews on Steam, now's the perfect time to rediscover minesweeper!
I was at work this week and i overheard a group of people talking about “vintage” video games they’d played recently.
I’d actually just watched the second Lara Croft film, The Cradle of Life the night before (Why? You’re asking, it’s 2026! Why? I reply. Because it’s a bloody great film and will always be one my faves)
I wandered over joined in and made a reference to Tomb Raider and locking the butler in the freezer. AND NO ONE UNDERSTOOD. I asked what “vintage” games they were talking about. They were talking about games on the original DS… Specifically one of them mention Nintendogs and called it retro.
I asked if anyone had played any Sega or PlayStation One from the 90s. What was the response?
“Omg there’s a PlayStation ONE?” And “You had video games in the 90s?”
I learnt that I’m old.
I learnt that although I’m 33 and I feel like I’m 25, when you talk to a 25 year old they make you feel 50.
I also learnt the younger generation are a little stupid. Sorry bout it. But obviously. They knew there was a PlayStation three, four and five but didn’t realise there was a PlayStation one and two.
Side note: we found a floppy disk when clearing out the office and the intern asked if we’d “3D printed the Save icon”. 😂🤦♀️
I KNOW THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT TOOK GREAT JOY IN LOCKING THE BUTLER IN THE FREEZER.
Make yourself known. We may not be super young anymore. Yes we may have back problems and knee problems and hip problems and breathing problems and slightly damaged brains from drinking in parks from the age of 14 (certainly if you’re English)
But what we do have my friends. Is locking that helpful little bitch in the freezer. For no other reason that pure malice. It was a special time. And kids these days can’t take that away from us.
Reddit, please do your thing and make me feel not alone and old in a world of video games where you can no longer be so delightfully, and whimsically evil.
Also the locking the butler in the freezer was something we all just knew to do. No one on the internet told us to do it. We just all did it. It’s the Marilyn Manson rumour of video games. (Also please tell me you get that reference - if you don’t, you’re too young for this post. Go out and buy a Sega and a PS1 and a GameCube, have some blocky, pixely, actually vintage fun - you’ll love it)
