[Wiederer] Luther Burden put on a show in primetime. The Bears say it’s only the beginning
Across three seasons and 38 regular-season starts, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been asked regularly to recount his 52 touchdown passes. That’s often an enjoyable exercise, of course. And it has allowed Williams to offer valuable under-the-helmet insight about his craft — what he noticed before the snap, how he eluded pressure, what prompted his decision to go where he went with the football.
Still, after Williams’ 51st career touchdown pass Thursday night, there wasn’t much to detail.
“I didn’t do anything,” Williams confessed. “I just threw the ball.”
Indeed, the degree of difficulty for the quarterback on that third-and-17 play late in the first half of a 30-24 win over the New England Patriots was low. Catch snap. Look left. Quickly pivot right and shoot the ball to Luther Burden III.
Burden took it from there.

[Bearsszn] Albert Breer asked 17 coaches/executives around the NFL who they’d pick between Caleb Williams and Drake Maye to build their franchise around. 18 won by a 12-5 margin. 👀 “You call a perfect D and still get beat, just like Josh [Allen] and [Patrick] Mahomes.”- NFL Asst. GM

[Albert Breer article]
Caleb Williams vs. Drake Maye: Thursday night gave us a look into the NFL’s future. So before Patriots-Bears, one of the producers I work with at NBC Sports Boston, Jeff Capotosto, suggested asking execs and coaches whether they’d take Drake Maye or Caleb Williams to build around. My quickie straw poll, conducted via text, elicited responses from six GMs, five offensive coordinators, four assistant GMs, a VP of player personnel and a pass-game coordinator.
The verdict: Williams 12, Maye 5.

Smokin' Caleb
I had to do something while hate watching all those games.
I feel like it captures my spirit watching the trade deadline approach.

Realistic Trade Targets For The Bears
I am seeing a lot of posts like "Let's trade for Jonathan Taylor" or "Jeffrey Simmons would only cost a 1st right?!"
I'm always pragmatic to a fault and I know a lot of us want to fantasy book all these stars coming, but it's rare for a team to get a big stud star midseason, even if it's becoming a bit more common. But there are 20 teams fighting for the same meal.
I'd rather look at some realistic trade targets that won't be sexy, but could still be helpful. A few examples
1) Khalil Mack. Just because it's almost cliche to mention him doesn't make it wrong. A mid level Day 3 pick would get it done most likely. We won't have the Mack of a decade ago. But we'd add another valuable pass rusher to wear down OLs.
2) Dallas Goedert. With Kmet out for the season and our reliance on tight ends, he is absolutely the name I look at most on offense for us at the moment. He's cheap too.
3) Daron Payne. NT. Last year of his contract so he wont' cost a ton. There is at least the potential if he is a home run, we use Grady's money towards extending Payne in the offseason.
4) Jonathan Owens. He knows the defense and we can never have too much safety help right now. And he plays special teams. We may legit get him for a 7th from Indy.
Any other realistic candidates you all can see?

Kmet Stopgap
After losing Kmet for the year, I’d love to see Poles go after Carsen Ryan.
Dude was one of the top rated TE from this year’s draft after finishing Top 10 in:
Snaps
Receptions
Catch Rate
Yards
Yards per Reception
YAC
Drop %
MTF
Offensive Grade
Run Blocking Grade
Cleveland doesn’t see his value as a starter after releasing him and resigning to the practice squad yesterday.
Very low cost and adds depth Coach Johnson needs to maintain 12/13 personnel.

Physics teaches us that there's a non-zero chance that we can run through walls.
And while I theoretically would run through a wall to get Khalil Mack back in a Bear's jersey, wearing his jersey around town until the deal happens is the best thing I can do.
Help manifest it and wear those Mack jerseys today!

How are we feeling about the Seahawks / Bears match up.
We saw how they shut down the chiefs. What can we do differently?

4th and a 6th. Thank you Poles.
Don’t get me wrong Nelson is an incredible player. I just think this highlights how good these trades were. Get both of these players for cheaper than what Seattle paid for Nelson on an expiring contract.
