Discussion Jase Medical Text Message

So, I received the following text from Jase Medical today…

“Jase: The Pentagon's new plan for a possible war on US soil is called FORTRESS.

If you have to be completely self sufficient for 90 days, would you survive?

"We don't want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to run our national defense. We just simply can't." - Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell

Could you survive without a pharmacy?”

  1. Did anyone else get this text?

  2. Obviously, this is a ploy to drive more business to the company, but there are some grains of truth here, particularly the Fortress aspect of it.

  3. With so many warnings and the given state of the world (political upheaval, economic downturns, climate change, etc), I’m not seeing how the status quo can hold.

I have a sneaking suspicion that WWIII’s official start date will be 2014 in Crimea, once the history books are written.

❓ Question ❓ Characteristics of a mask

First of all, I apologise if this has been asked, I searched for it on the sub and didn't find an answer to this specific question.

What are the characteristics I need to look for to get a good mask in case of fires? Are N95 enough?

I live in South America, so brand or model recommendations are usually useless for me, as I cannot find them here. That's why I'm asking about characteristics.

Discussion I see preps like survival insurance

I know many people who insure everything. Riders, highest limits but have zero actual preps. That seems kinda backwards to me. Yes insurance is good BUT it's not going to feed you when the lights are off or heat your house. To me preps are just a different type of insurance. Folks say but what if it goes bad. I buy what I eat and rotate but on occasion I need to pitch something. Nothing cost wise compared to insurance premiums. How do you all view it?

❓ Question ❓ Compiling a List for Elderly Mother

My elderly mother and her partner of 20 years live in a major U.S. city approximately an 8 hr drive from me. They are both in poor health and poor mobility, as well as limited financial means. They have two cats that are like children to them. She is increasingly becoming anxious with the news these days (understandable). I have tried to coach her on both mental and physical preparedness (encouraging her not to direct too much energy into fear/prepping on basics like food, water, medications, etc.) but this is all very new to her. I would like to compile a list of things to do before/during/after a potential grid down scenario or civil unrest. I would like to bring her to me, but her partner is in a physical rehab facility at the moment and she won’t leave him. If able, given certain scenarios, I would try to make my way to her before things were too bananas, but that would involve travel among a major highway corridor on the east coast. If you were me, what things would you add to a list that are practical and not overwhelming? I think having something like this printed out would give her peace of mind. They do not have a generator. Thank you for any suggestions.

Discussion Communication Preparedness

Just looking for tips and tricks that aren’t ham radio. If it all goes down how are we communicating with people who are 90 miles away?
