Admin Post Weekly Recap | October 22, 2026

It's what day? That's right! Thursday! In addition to the various shapes and sizes of seasonal Reese's that I've been consuming, the neighborhoods around me are going hard with the Halloween decorations this year! There's at least three of those giant skeletons in various costumes within a two block radius of Casa Opus. I'm here for it, though! I'm also here for the Recap! Shall we?

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Wanted to start off with a thank you to everyone who has used the Help Navigator and left feedback! It's been super helpful and we are working on improving some of the answers based on your ratings! If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out here! We've also added that link to Post Guidance in this sub!

  • Mod World is this Saturday! If you're a mod, this is a great event that we've been doing annually for a while now! Sign up and show up! It's a good time with great information! And you never know who might show up. ;) There's more over in r/ModEvents!

  • Desktop Reddit had a moment yesterday where it just wasn't Redditing. Old Reddit and the apps worked, though! This was fixed up really fast, so major props to the teams that dove into this and got it worked out.

  • Little change to the ongoing For You and Following tab experiment. The "For You" tab may be called "Discover". Everything else is the same, including selecting which view you want and having that selection remembered.

  • There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format.

  • There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time in select communities.

  • Some users may see the "Popular" tab along with the For You and Following tabs.

  • There's still the experiment with the X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. If you don't have an X on a post in your feed, you can go into the post and hide it from there.

  • And there's an experiment where you may see Related Posts at the bottom of a post. There isn't a way to remove those.

  • Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove folks from experiments, but I can (and do!) pass along your thoughts!

  • Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". Reddit will never ask another user to contact you on our behalf. That is someone trying to scam you. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.42.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,193 posts. That's down 139 posts from the 1,332 that we had last week.

  • 3,770 comments. That's down 656 comments from the 4,436 we had last week.

  • 731k views. That's down about 45k-ish views from the 776k -ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - DELETING ACCOUNTS

Let's talk deleting accounts this week!

There are times when a user may want to delete their account. You can do this from the desktop site or from the app. If it fails on the app, try the desktop site and that should work better. To delete your account from the app, log into the account, tap your profile avatar, tap Settings at the bottom, tap Account Settings at the top, tap Delete Account at the bottom. From there, you'll see a message that says "Once you delete your account, your profile and username are permanently removed from Reddit and your posts, comments and messages are dissociated (not deleted) from your account." If you'd like to know more about that, you can click "Learn more" and it will take you to this Help Center article.

To delete your account on the desktop site, you can click your profile avatar, then Settings, and then scroll down to where you can click "Delete account". You'll get a pop up which will require you to enter your username and password, as well as a checkbox to click in order to delete the account. Reddit is unable to delete an account on your behalf.

Once your account is deleted, that's it for the username! Reddit does not allow for the recycling or reuse of usernames, so no one else (including you) will be able to claim that username or use that account after it has been deleted.

To summarize that Help Center article, when you delete your account, your content is NOT DELETED. If there is content on your account when your account is deleted, the content will remain, but the username will appear as [deleted]. The content will only be accessible with a direct link and will not appear in Reddit search. Deleting your content does not delete other users' content! If there are comments on your post from other users, that content will remain. You are unable to delete other users' content.

If you want your content to be deleted, you will need to delete your content individually BEFORE YOU DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT. There is not a way to do this all at once. There may be some third party apps out there that will do this for you, but Reddit does not endorse or support any of them. Reddit is unable to delete content that was on your account after your account is deleted.

While content from deleted accounts will not appear in Reddit search, that content may continue to show up in cached search engine results for some time after deletion. This is due to the way search engines work and is not something Reddit can control or force to update for you. The deleted information will eventually fall out of the results but we have no way of predicting how long that may take. However, Google has made it easier to request the removal of personally identifiable information and you can read about that in their help center.

Desktop How do I see the list of people that I've followed on the desktop web app?

Just like how users have a "Following" section in the side pop up, I don't see one on the web app reddit.com. So how do I see the list of people I'm following?

Access Hacker enabled MFA. Locked out of account: u/RejectedJake

• Upvotes

Hi, my u/RejectedJake account has been hacked. I reset the password but I can't login because the hackers enabled MFA so I don't have the 6 digit code. May you help me get access back to my account? I don't want them to have access to my personal information.

I was alerted to this issue 30 minutes ago when I got an email saying MFA has been enabled even though I am at work. I still have access to my email and phone, but each route to login is met with the 6 digit code prompt. Can my account please be locked in the meantime as well?

Posting I have a new account, and why are so many recent comments by [deleted] users? Why does the comment algorithm recommend so many of them? [Desktop, iOS, iPadOS]

Post image
3 Upvotes

Yesterday, randomly, I lost access to my 10+ year old account and so I created a new one and started subbing to most of the same subs I've traditionally used, just starting fresh.

With my new account, an overwhelming amount of comments that I see on posts are by [deleted] users, with posts rarely more than an hour or two old. I'd see [deleted] users occassionally but usually on older threads that I discover through Google, or whatever. There are recent threads, news worthy threads, where every post and every reply are [deleted] users. Is this a bug? Are these bots? I assume this is the comment recommendation algorithm, what choices are made in designing the recommendation algorithm for me that would bubble up dozens and dozens of comments, and their subsequent nested replies, with all [deleted] user accounts.

Screenshot is an example it's some random news article today about the Sec. of Defense possibly running for Senate in Tennessee.

I haven't had a new reddit account in ... 10 years, so is this common for every new account? I had assumed these were bots, but if there are... hundreds of posts and replies that are all just bots, and tha's the new user experience? It's weird.

Desktop Constant "We have encountered an error. Please try again later."

It's been like this for ages. I've tried logging in and out. I've tried multiple browsers. Nothing works. The only thing that works is going to old reddit. Anytime I'm on new reddit 99/100 times I'm getting a red banner at the top that says "We have encountered an error. Please try again later." and when that errors is displayed you can't interact with any content.

Reddit Premium I randomly have Reddit Premium even though I did not purchase it? What this gifted by Reddit? They usually let us know via PM...

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I was curious if Reddit was doing a promotion where they gave us a free year of Reddit Premium, just like when they gave us a free subscription to Optery a couple of years back? Does anyone know anything about this? I didn't get a PM from an admin as usual stating we got a free year of Reddit Premium and I did not see any posts about it under r/modevents.

Thank you.

Posting Android - post/comments not showing up

I did try the Help Navigator and the articles about being 🚫. It said if my question wasn't answered to ask here.

My post and comments under my other account are not showing up. It's been about four days, I think. Today is Oct 26. I do not have any messages about being 🚫 on reddit. I was 🚫from a subreddit on Oct 14 but I was quite active around reddit after that.

I don't know what to do now. Please help. The name of the account is Vioralarama. Thank you.

Posting How to force an indent

It is imperative for me to publish a recipe with indented ingredients.

Is there any way to force/code an indent for a single line/sentence?

someone suggested "4 spaces" that doesn't seem to work. using 7 spaces to create a 3 space indent doesn't work.

Access Problem with modmail.

My messages to moderators via mod-mail seem to not be delivered. I know that reddit in EU has this whole age verification thing and part of it says "Aby uzyskać dostęp do czatu, obserwujących i profili publicznych, potwierdź, że masz ukończone 16 lat." Which means that access to chat is blocked (?), but normal chats seem to work so I do not know if it is problem. Messages on my side seem to work just fine, but I do not receive any reply, so I assume that problem is on my part. I was m.uted (why this word is not allowed here?) for 28 days, but that's not an issue here (I think), since situation took place over month after the m.ute expired. I think that age verification may be problem, but I would like to hear opinion of someone who knows better than I do. Thanks for help.

I assume this is some kind of technical issue since messages lie unanswered sine 09.10.2026 (dd/mm/yyyy) and moderation usually answered my former messages within a week at most.

Access there doesn't seem to be anything here? error. Desktop, Android

Hi, I have been using old.reddit for a while now and starting to notice that some subreddits are failing to show up on my feed or are impossible to view content such as PublicFreakout, CrazyFuckingVideos, etc. they seem fine before but now nothing shows when searching in each subreddit feed it just shows "there doesn't seem to be anything here" and thats it. Sometimes a post will show on the home/popular feeds and i can go into that post and view it but thats it. I can't see anything else beyond that?

Mobile/App [iOS Bug] Comments automatically jump down when opening a post

Whenever I tap the comments button below a post in the Reddit iOS app, instead of opening at the top comment, the app automatically jumps a few lines down into some of the sub-comments, skipping the beginning of the discussion. I have to manually scroll up to get to the first comment.
Having to scroll up every time just to read the beginning of the comments has become extremely annoying and frustrating. Please investigate and fix this issue so that the comments section opens at the top, as expected.

Mobile/App Android how do I place photos into other photos?

My "Google photos" and "albums" doesn't have an option for placing different photos on another and every app I've tried makes me make a separate copy of said photo for the app to use and it's just cluttering up my storage and is horribly inefficient

Reddit Premium People unable to send me a DM after I recieved Reddit Premium

I don't know if these two things are related, but I attented the mod world stream because I wanted the trophy and was instead surprised with an entire year of Reddit Premium. That's great, but since then, a bunch of my account settings were changed and people are no longer able to send me a DM unless I start it.

I checked my chat settings, everyone can send. I checked my follower settings, anyone can follow. I don't know why it's suddenly doing this, and I need this setting enabled.

Desktop Pinned image post shows raw i.redd.it link on desktop (fine on mobile)

Post image
1 Upvotes

What’s happening:

  • I created image posts using the new post editor (one from desktop using the image icon, one from mobile using the gallery icon).
  • On mobile, the pinned post looks normal, with the image showing properly.
  • On desktop (new Reddit), the pinned post shows the title, a raw link like /img/...jpeg?s=... as text, and only a small thumbnail on the right.
  • On old Reddit, the posts show “(i.redd.it)” next to the title, as if they were saved as link posts.

What I’ve tried:

  • Re-uploaded the image directly (not pasting a URL)
  • Used a 660×660 image (JPG and PNG)
  • Posted from both mobile and desktop
  • Checked on old Reddit and the user profile page

The issue appears every time I pin a post that contains an image, regardless of image size or format.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known bug or just how pinned posts display on desktop?
  2. Do regular users (not mods) also see the raw link, or only me?
  3. Is there a way to create a native image post that doesn’t show the link on desktop?

Screenshots attached. Thanks for any help!

Mobile/App Comment views reliability (Android)

I was commenting on a thread a little while ago, and I looked at the insights on my two comments. I know views are very weird sometimes but one comment said it was USA, UK, and Australia as the viewers, then my next comment right below said it was USA, UK, and Canada? This doesn't make much sense at all to me because the comments were right beside each other.
