I’m thinking of buying my first metal rig, is this setup worth the 700€ I’m trying to buy it for? I already own Simagic Alpha Evo 9Nm and Simagic’s P500

Question Is the MOZA R5 worth the extra money over the R3 for truck and farming sims?

• Upvotes

I got a MOZA R3 Bundle for €210. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or save up a bit more for an R5 or even an R5 Pro.

I mostly play ETS2, ATS, FS25, SnowRunner and similar games. I don't really play racing games, so I'm not sure if the R5 would make much of a difference for the games I play.

I don't want to spend more than I need to, but at the same time, I don't want to keep the R3 only to end up wanting an upgrade a few months later.

I've also been looking at the trucking bundle, but it's a bit more than I'd like to spend.

For those who mainly play truck sims and farming games, would you keep the R3 or return it and save up for the R5/R5 Pro Bundle? Is the difference worth it?

Rigs Cockpit suggestions (High end Gear)

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been upgrading my Setup along the years and now I'm on this pedal and wheelbase combo;

- simagic alpha ultimate 23NM

- simcube active pedal pro + copedal

I bought my first cockpit TR80lite 4 years ago, and unfortunately it's starting to give up, pedal plate flex, flex on the wheel base deck, so it's time for an upgrade.

Currently I have three options in sight but if anyone knows any better feel free to recommend;

-VRS GT2 cockpit

-Simlab P1X PRO

-Trackracer TR160

I'm looking for an "buy once and forget" option, of course if cheaper better, thats why im waiting until Black Friday.

Does anyone have one of these following Cockpits or any other recommendations.

(I cant find any reviews on the VRS GT2)

Rigs Coming back after 13 years, looking for advice for a new rig

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I haven’t done any sim racing in about 13 years. Since then I moved abroad and never had the space for a rig, but from next month I finally will, so I want to build a proper setup. A lot has changed since I last played, so I’d love some advice.

What I know so far:

  • I already have a 49" ultrawide monitor and plan to use it.
  • I’ll only drive GT cars. I don’t need a formula-style position or any F1 adjustments.
  • I’m a big guy: 186 and around 115 kg, so size and fit matter a lot.

Where I’d love your input:

  1. Aluminum profile vs. tubular: from what I’ve read online, aluminum profile cockpits are sturdier and flex less than tubular ones. Zero flex is my top priority, especially at my weight. Can you confirm aluminum profile is the way to go, and that tubular rigs are generally less rigid? If so, I’ll rule out tubular ones completely.
  2. Cockpit: I’m looking at the Sim-Lab P1X Ultimate. Is it a good choice for a GT-only setup, and does it work well for someone my size? If not, what should I look at instead? I’d also like to know the best way to mount a 49" ultrawide: on the rig itself, or on a separate stand?
  3. Seat: this one matters a lot to me. I want something comfortable for long sessions that actually fits a tall, heavier driver. Which seats have worked for you at that size, and are there any to avoid?
  4. Ecosystem (wheelbase, wheel, pedals): I want to buy good gear (maybe not the very top of the line since I'm not a pro) and ideally commit to an ecosystem I can grow with. What I don’t understand yet is how compatibility works these days:
    • Can I freely mix brands, for example a wheelbase from one brand, pedals from another, and a rim from a third?
    • Or is it better to stick with one brand so everything works together out of the box?
    • What are the main trade-offs, like quick releases, software, or pedals connecting through the base vs. directly over USB?
  5. Direct drive wheelbase: what are the go-to options right now, and how much torque actually makes sense for GT driving?
  6. Buying from Switzerland: any brands or shops you’d recommend (or avoid) for shipping here? I’d love to hear from anyone who has ordered heavy items like a cockpit to Switzerland.
  7. Risers, casters and parquet floors: I see a lot of people put their cockpit on risers. I don’t plan to move my rig around much, but I was thinking about adding wheels. I have parquet floors, so I’m worried about damage. With a heavy aluminum rig plus my weight on top, would the weight concentrated on 4 wheels dent or deform the parquet? Would risers, floor mats or a different setup be the safer choice?

Budget: between 2k and 3k (can stretch a little if it's worth it)
Platform: PC (running a ryzen 5800x and a rtx3080, hopefully should be fine)

Any other tips for someone getting back into it after so long are very welcome too. Thanks!

Question Triple Monitor Setup Help with Different Resolutions

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm building a triple monitor sim racing setup with mixed resolutions: 1440p in the center and 1080p on both sides. My specs are an RTX 5070 and a Ryzen 7 7500X3D. I want all three screens to run at their native resolution, without downscaling the center monitor to 1080p and without a distorted image. Nvidia Surround seems to require identical resolutions on all screens, and DSR doesn't solve it either. Is there any way to make this work, maybe through a sim with proper multi-monitor support or some driver trick?

(Most of the time I play Assetto Corsa Evo or Le Mans Ultimate)

Discussion TMX or G29/G920. What should I get?

So I want to get into simracing, and I was looking for a budget setup with the basics (wheel & pedals).

I looked in fb marketplace and found G29/G920 and TMX.
They are similarly priced with around 14-27 usd difference (g29 being the more expensive out of them).

Now I dont know which one to get...

Rigs Tiny room and first DD setup. Shall I set up anything else?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just graduated and moved into a small apartment. I always want to get a serious DD setup, but there's no way I can put a full cockpit in my room and finally I ended up getting a PXN VD6.

Been playing Assetto Corsa on PC for about a week now and the difference is sooo noticeable compared to G29. 6Nm feels plenty for me right now and the steering feels way smoother than what I was used to. I can actually feel the car going over curbs! Even when I push too hard into a corner, it's easier to tell when the front tires start losing grip.

And I was worried that this desk might wobble around when I'm turning the wheel too hard. But actually the clamp is solid and reliable. I'd say this update is a great success and Black friday is coming up, I'm tempted to upgrade something else. What do you suggest that can really improve the experience? A pedal or a GT wheel?

Question AMS 2 - Custom Championship - Some settings won't stay on

Hi guys!

I’m trying to set up a Formula Gen 3 custom championship in AMS2, but some settings don’t seem to save.

For example, if I disable qualifying or shorten the quali session and save the changes, it reverts to 20 minutes when I start the championship. The same happens with mandatory pit stops, I enable them while editing the championship, but they switch off again once I start it.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or found a fix?

Thanks.

Question Sim racing rigs fold away ideas

Hi guys

Just wanted to ask has anyone ever setup a DIY fold away sim rig? I have a racing wheel and gearshifter but I have to move it around the whole time as I work at my desk as well. So I was thinking of a fold away solution where I can clamp the wheel and gearshifter and fold it back into my desk. I saw a video on youtube of a guy doing it but there is no details as to how he built it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WLsS70_KFU

I was looking at one of those fold up racing rigs as well but I feel the DIY option might be better just don't know how to actually do it. Any help would be appreciate. Thank you in advance.

Question i need help, like serious life advice

i am just getting into sim racing, i found a pxn v9 gen 2, but i have seen people building DIY DD wheels, so i was wondering, is it possible that if i build a DD wheel, can i use the pedals and shifter of that pxn? if it is, is it really worth it?

or even better,

i was also wondering, is there a DIY guide or a method to convert this pxn wheel into a Force Feedback wheel by a belt drive system or any other that exists?

Question Thoughts on a Sim setup and PC in Garage?

Hi all! I’m a fairly new sim racer and currently have a NLR WS 2.0 in the living room and the only place I can move it would be the garage. I was also looking at potentially upgrading to a rig since the office chair and the wheels and feels pretty inconsistent at times.

My worry is if there is anything I need to do to ensure the electronics won’t get damaged (whether that be condensation or anything I haven’t thought of). I live in Australia so the temperatures can fluctuate from really hot to really cold.

Is there anything I need to do or purchase to protect the equipment or would it be safer just to keep my current wheel stand setup in the living room?

Thank you so much!

Question Speaker recommendation for my rig (no headphones)

Hi guys, I am going to buy a new simracingrig (gt-rs) with triple screen setup.

So my question: does anyone have speaker recommendations for around €100 can go a bit higher if it’s a significant upgrade. Or if something is okay for around 50€ than I will upgrade later.

Don’t come to me for “use headphone” I know you get more for your buck but I don’t like it to have something on my head, and still veel more immersive if the sound isn’t directly in my ear.

Question Defensive driving. Good strategies or not?

So on the road to becoming a better driver I am starting to feel more comfortable taking defensive lines, something I had previously avoided, (not really understanding what lines to take ect).
Now I feel like I have better understanding, after a lot of struggling to get around drivers that defend well.

I had a race this week were I kept defending against two drivers that were faster than me, I was holding them up until the other caught up and then they would battle, letting me open up a gap again.

Felt good to hold them off, I was getting very nervous about it for sure!

I dont even know what I was asking now, maybe I just wanted to share my joy.

Is this just standard racing tactic or is a bit dirty?

Discussion Why was the ACC so easily abandoned?

I know racing games have never had very high player numbers, but isn't it strange that everyone quit ACC so quickly in a situation where every game has its own problems, of course there are still people who play it, but even Kunos has given up on the game. Yes, there are Evo and Rally, but I still think ACC was in very good shape, especially in terms of sound and visuals, and even despite its limited focus in terms of content, I think it was not a game to give up easily.I know racing games have never had very high player numbers, but isn't it strange that everyone quit ACC so quickly in a situation where every game has its own problems, of course there are still people who play it, but even Kunos has given up on the game. Currently, apart from LMU and IRACING, I think there is no game left that is played intensively by the community but is constantly being developed.

Question Has anyone gone from SRP Pneumatic pedals to Active Pedals?

if you've upgraded from the SRP GT-R or GT-S pneumatic pedals to active pedals I'd love to hear your experience with it.

I'm seeing all these new active options and it's making me wonder if I'm missing out on something huge.

Other How to make your moza h shifter nearly silent

Adding 2 pieces of thin rubber, or in my case half a piece of heat shrink in between the ball detents and the ball, it’ll drastically quiet down the loud clunk when shifting. Idk how long it’ll last, but I’m going to experiment with a thin piece of rubber next, and also try printing a thin piece of tpu and see how that holds up. I previously used foam at first but it quickly squished and became useless like I thought it would.

Pretty simple install, but it does require disassembling practically everything. Well worth it tho, my rig is nearly silent now.

Here’s a before video. Couldn’t attach it to the main post.

Discussion Building a modular button box for sim racing AND flight sim: what would you actually want?

Hey all, I'm an engineer from Switzerland and I'm designing a USB button box (RP2040, USB-C) with swappable face plates, so the same box works for racing and flying. Before I build anything, I'd love your input:

  1. What annoys you most about your current button box?

  2. Do you race/fly in VR? Which controls can you actually find blind?

  3. 7-way funky switch: must-have or nice-to-have?

  4. Would you swap face plates when switching between racing and flight sims?

  5. What would you pay for ~20 controls plus 2 swappable plates?

  6. Which software do you use (SimHub, MobiFlight, DCS-BIOS, Spad.next)? Would ready-made profiles be a reason to buy?

  7. How do you mount your box (RAM mount, profile rig, desk clamp)?

I may sell these later, so I'm doing market research first. Just want to build something people actually need. Thanks!

Question What Copkit should i buy? (beginner)

Every time I try a simulator, I get an even bigger itch to have my own at home. I don't want to go all out right off the bat and drop €5,000 on a cockpit when I'm not even sure if I'll put in the hours needed to actually get good... (though deep down, I think I will!). That's why I think a Playseat-style setup makes sense for now. Right now I have the option to buy a Next Level Racing F-GT. My current gear is a Moza R9 with SRP pedales, and I'm looking for a solid value-for-money cockpit that won't flex or wobble all over the place during hard braking or quick direction changes. Thanks and best regards!

Question For sim players that are learning to track their real cars, what are some bad/good habits to watch?

Post image
90 Upvotes

In the sim I play AC and AC Evo (street cars only) on a simagic alpha mini, cheap H shifter, and a single 42” flat screen.

I have a first generation 86 with minimal performance mods (brake pads, fluid, 200tw tires, and camber bolts). I have previously completed 90 mins total at Streets of willow springs in SoCal. The car performed beautifully while I was lacking. I will be heading back to the same track in a month.

I don’t have an ego and I will point by anyone I see behind me. I am definitely losing a lot of seconds in the braking zone after a long straight. Threshold braking is scary AF and my heel toe downshifts are ass. The additional information I feel from the car in real life is a bit overwhelming compared to sim racing.

My goals for sim racing is purely to become a better driver on track in my own car. What are some common mistakes sim players make when driving on track? What should I focus my practice on in the sim before my next track day?

Question Buying simucube 2 pro used - what to check before ?

I will be picking up a used SC 2 pro tomorrow. It was purchased 1 year ago (seller has invoice) with 1 year warranty left.

Am I am safe with this 1 year warranty or would you recommend to check the SC 2 pro working before ? The seller has only the wheelbase.

How (if) can/should I check myself with a laptop?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks
