Open | Windows New $3,600 PC randomly shuts off when using Adobe programs — getting progressively worse. GPU, RAM or PSU issue?

Hey everyone,
Hoping someone here can help me diagnose an ongoing issue with my PC because it’s getting to the point where it’s seriously affecting my work.
I’m a full-time photographer/videographer and primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Earlier this year, I upgraded from a much older PC to a brand new custom built system. I purchased it in March 2026 from a reputable PC builder here in Australia.

PC SPECS:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
CPU Cooler: Thermalright 240 ARGB Liquid Cooler
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 12GB
RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz
Motherboard: MSI B650M Gaming WiFi
PSU: 750W Cooler Master ATX 3.1
Storage: 2TB Biwin M350 NVMe SSD
OS: Windows 11 Home
Case: Cataclysm Voyager Black Tower with 6 case fans

Initial Problems
Pretty much ever since I purchased the PC, I’ve experienced occasional crashes, predominantly when using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Initially, the crashes would happen when doing things like:
- Importing or transferring files in and out of Premiere Pro.
- Scrubbing through timelines.
- Working with larger video projects.
- General editing and playback.

When I say crashing, I mean the entire PC instantly shuts off. No blue screen, no error message, no warning. Everything immediately loses power, including the fans and RGB lighting.

I contacted the PC manufacturer, and after some troubleshooting, they remotely disabled the CPU’s integrated graphics.

This actually seemed to improve things significantly. The crashes became much less frequent, although they would still happen occasionally.

For a while, I just dealt with it because it wasn’t happening often enough to seriously interrupt my workflow.

Recent Problems — Much Worse
Over the last month or two, the problem has progressively gotten worse, particularly over the last couple of weeks.
It’s now happening almost daily, sometimes multiple times in a single editing session.
One of the strangest things I’ve noticed is that closing an Adobe application and then reopening it seems to trigger a complete system shutdown.

For example:
- I’ll be working in Premiere Pro.
- I’ll close the application normally.
- I’ll try to reopen Premiere Pro.
- The entire PC instantly switches off.
- I’ll turn the PC back on.
- If I immediately try opening Premiere again, the PC will often shut off again.
- However, if I leave the PC sitting idle for a few minutes after restarting, I can usually open Premiere without it immediately crashing.

This behaviour is extremely consistent.

It’s No Longer Just Premiere Pro
Initially, the problem was almost exclusively happening in Premiere Pro.
However, recently I’ve experienced the same complete shutdowns when:
- Exporting photographs in Adobe Lightroom (regular Lightroom, not Classic).
- Opening Adobe Photoshop.
- Opening or reopening Premiere Pro.
- Editing and scrubbing through timelines.
- I’ve also experienced occasional crashes outside Adobe applications, although I’d estimate that around 95% of them occur while using Adobe software.

Most Recent Incident
Today, I was doing some relatively intensive editing in Premiere Pro when the entire application appeared to freeze.
My screen then went completely black, but interestingly, the PC itself remained powered on.
After a short period, the display returned, but Premiere Pro was no longer functioning properly. I couldn’t get video playback working.
This was different from my usual crashes, where the entire system instantly loses power.
I’ve also experienced instances where the computer completely freezes, including the mouse becoming unresponsive.
During one of these freezes, I held the physical power button to force a shutdown, but it took approximately 35 seconds for the PC to actually turn off.

Troubleshooting So Far
I’ve contacted the PC manufacturer about the issue previously.
They initially disabled integrated graphics, which significantly reduced the frequency of crashes but never completely eliminated them.
We’ve also performed stress testing on the PC, and everything appeared to run normally without crashing.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly which stress-testing software was used.
What confuses me is that the PC can apparently handle stress tests without any problems, yet something as simple as reopening Photoshop or Premiere can cause it to instantly lose power.

My Questions
I’m trying to work out whether this is potentially:
- A faulty or unstable power supply.
- A GPU or graphics driver issue.
- Improperly seated or unstable DDR5 RAM.
- A motherboard issue.
- Something specifically related to Adobe applications and hardware acceleration.

The instant loss of power makes me wonder about the PSU,

The fact that the system often needs to sit idle for a few minutes after restarting before I can successfully launch Adobe applications is also really confusing.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Are there any specific diagnostic tests, Windows logs or hardware checks you’d recommend to help narrow down the actual cause?

The PC is still under warranty, but I’d ideally like to identify the issue before having to ship the entire computer interstate for repairs.

Any advice would be massively appreciated. I’m relying on this computer for my full-time work, and the constant crashes are becoming a serious problem.

Open | Windows I'm Stumped

• Upvotes

2 days ago my PC started freezing/locking up.

It first happened while playing Aion 2, but has since happened while watching youtube/on the desktop.

The mouse still moves but I cant click anything, cant move windows around and have to force shutdown via the power button/reboot button.

Specs are

9800x3d under 420mm aio

9070xt

64gb 6000mhz ram

1000w platinum psu

Asus strix x870-E motherboard.

I have had this system since March 2025 and have had dno issues up until now.

Cpu has a 200mhz overclock which i have tried removing.

Gpu is stock.

Its not over heating, havent monitored temps but its cool air coming from the aio and case, no error codes are being thrown up, no indicators on the motherboard.

Nothing is jumping out at me in event viewer as unusual.

Open | Hardware PC suddenly crashing, GPU disappearing from PCIe, now failing POST with VGA debug LED. Motherboard, GPU, or PSU?

My PC has been working reliably for months, but over the past week it’s developed increasingly serious problems. I’m trying to narrow down the cause before spending money replacing components.
Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900XT
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 (less than a year old)
RAM: 32 GB DDR4
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 750W or 850W
OS: Nobara Linux
BIOS: 2.P1 (July 2026)
Initially, the PC began spontaneously rebooting during boot and gaming. Linux reported fatal AMD machine-check errors:
```MC5_STATUS: 0xbea0000000000108
IPID: 0x000500b000000000
Syndrome: 0x000000004d000000
```
The kernel also reported an uncorrectable error causing an AMD Data Fabric sync flood.
I disabled XMP and ran four passes of Memtest86+ with zero errors, but the crashes continued.
Switching from Nobara kernel 7.2.11 to 7.2.10 initially seemed to fix things. I played Cyberpunk for hours without problems.
However, after approximately 11 hours of uptime, both monitors suddenly lost signal while gaming. Audio continued briefly before stopping, and the system completely froze.
The logs showed:

```
amdgpu: device lost from bus!
SMU: bus error ... response:0xFFFFFFFF
Failed to export SMU metrics table!
```

GPU reset attempts failed. On subsequent boots, AMDGPU also reported SMU/PSP initialization failures.
Now the PC sometimes won’t even POST. The motherboard’s VGA debug LED stays illuminated, and neither monitor receives a signal. No MSI logo or GRUB appears, so this isn’t exclusively a Linux boot issue.

I am at my wits end here and I do not know what to do. Please help.

Solved I deleted an old user file and now my graphic card and bluetooth aren't working/

A while back my old user file got corrupted so I had to make a whole new user profile and shift all my files there. Since the old user file took alot of space, I deleted everything in it but since then my bluetooth and graphic card has not been working at all. I tried uninstalling bluetooth from the device manager, restarted my pc but nothing appeared. And I have no idea what to do with my graphic card situation. I am not a tech person at all, nor I do know the terms. What should I do?

Update: fixed!

Open | Malware Do it still need to be concerned?

So at 1 in the morning I git hit by a massive nasty virus attack. 100% Trojans, possibly Spyware but im not sure.

I secured all my accounts, ran a deep scan and bitdefender several times before hard resetting and formatting the pc. Re installing windows and all. I have now changed all passwords and enabled all possible mfa's.

Do it still need to watch out for a possible second attempt or can I go to sleep being secured?

Open | Software Windows bluescreen error code 0xc00000f

so ive been racking my head for a few hours trying to fix this issue, one day i came home and turned on my windows 11 computer that i usually leave on and stumbled upon this error code on a blueescreen

trying to go into recovery environment led me into error code 0xc0000098, saying that winload.efi had issues

i then proceeded to create a windows installation media. now trying to use the "Repair my PC" setup option restarts my computer, while using the previous version of the setup and clicking "Repair your computer" only makes the tab flicker for a milisecond then do nothing

ive even used CMD to chkdsk-along with many other things-and it says theres 0 issues, and every file is where it should be (or at least i think). so im extremely confused

ive been trying to follow videos, guides, using AI to fix it and have gotten nowhere so im really confused on what to do now

i dont wanna do a clean installation as i have alot of big files i wanna keep

Open | Windows PC freezes/black screens randomly

This has been going on for a long time now. Basically what happens is either my screens will go black and audio stays on for a bit before also stopping, or my screens will just freeze also with audio before also stopping. The only thing I can do is hold down my power button to fully shut down my pc and then turn it back on. Also when holding down my power button pc headphones will make a static popping noise every time. I've changed every single component of my pc one at a time and yet it still does this. The only thing that hasn't changed is my ssd which I guess now it has to be that but I have no idea where to start when it comes to fixing this. Please help

Open | Hardware Microphone static on pc across multiple microphones for years?

• Upvotes

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my inquiry. For about 5 years I've had this odd issue of constant static at my pc when I speak into a microphone for any platform. I've always just tried to live with it, but other people aren't able to work around it anymore for gaming and zoom meetings. it started with a razor seiren x microphone and I just assumed at the time it was a cheap gaming microphone going out before eventually picking up a Samson G-Track pro. I'm not really sure if the issue went away for a period of time as people would complain about the seiren on and off, but recently both my friends and people I'm regularly in meetings with are starting to repeatedly bring it up. it also occurs on my retired steel series arctis 7 headphones. could it be a mobo problem? I've been building up with the same one for a while. the mobo is a gigabyte b450 ds3h. I've had obscure problems like this before that either just go away or I find a fix on accident, but I'm stumped on this. I remember reading threads back then about some seiren x owners reporting a similar issue at the time and thought it was only that. I've tried different usb ports over time, but there's no difference. I appreciate any advice on this, thank you.

Open | Software Windows 11 briefly freezes, mouse and audio stop responding, and Xbox Game Bar repeatedly crashes. Anyone else experiencing this recently?

Just a heads-up, this is going to be a fairly long post, but I want to be as detailed and precise as possible about what I've experienced. Hopefully, the extra information will help others recognize similar issues or narrow down what might be causing them.

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm experiencing a Windows or Xbox Game Bar issue, a graphics driver problem, or potentially something wrong with my laptop.

I recently purchased a high-end ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 gaming laptop, and over the past few days I've experienced a couple of unusual freezes. I've also noticed that Xbox Game Bar has repeatedly been crashing or becoming unresponsive according to Windows Reliability Monitor.

I've searched online and found people describing similar problems, but many discussions are several years old. I'm particularly interested in hearing whether anyone has experienced something similar recently.

My laptop specifications:

  • Model: ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026), G835LWG-TQ285W
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, 16 GB GDDR7, up to 175 W
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5-6400
  • Storage: 2 TB NVMe RAID 0
  • Display: 18-inch 3840 × 2400 Mini LED, 240 Hz
  • Operating system: Windows 11
  • GPU configuration: NVIDIA Advanced Optimus / MUX switch
  • Power: Always plugged in when gaming

Windows, NVIDIA graphics drivers and the laptop BIOS have all been updated recently.

Issue 1: Temporary system freezes

I've experienced two similar incidents over the past few days.

First incident:

I was playing Satisfactory on my laptop's internal display while watching a YouTube stream on an external monitor.

Suddenly, the system appeared to freeze for approximately one second. The audio stopped, and my mouse seemed to become unresponsive before suddenly jumping forward.

Everything returned to normal almost immediately, and I continued using the laptop without further problems.

I checked Windows Reliability Monitor afterward, but the only warning I initially found was an unsuccessful Microsoft GameInput installation with error code 1603. I don't know whether that was related.

Second incident (October 26):

I was watching a YouTube video when the video suddenly froze.

I pressed Space because I initially thought I might have accidentally paused it, but nothing happened. I then tried moving my mouse, but the cursor didn't respond.

A moment later, the system became responsive again. The YouTube video paused, apparently registering my earlier Space keypress, and the mouse cursor suddenly moved.

I immediately opened Windows Reliability Monitor and found a critical event involving Xbox Game Bar at 18:39, which was very close to when the freeze occurred.

The error details were:

  • Application: Xbox Game Bar
  • Problem: Stopped responding and was closed
  • Problem Event Name: MoAppHang
  • Application: GameBar.exe
  • Package: Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay
  • Application version: 7.326.8061.0
  • Date: October 26, 2026, 18:39

Looking back through Reliability Monitor, I noticed that Game Bar has repeatedly been crashing or hanging over the past several days.

I cannot confirm whether Game Bar is causing the freezes or simply becoming unresponsive because something else is happening.

Issue 2: Cyberpunk 2077 graphical corruption and severe FPS drop

I also experienced a strange graphical problem while playing Cyberpunk 2077 on October 25.

The game was initially running normally at approximately 80–100 FPS.

Suddenly, certain parts of the game's graphics became black, and my FPS dropped dramatically to around 20–25.

The game remained playable, and its underlying logic appeared to continue functioning normally, but everything felt unusually slow, almost worse than the reported 20–25 FPS.

Interestingly, when I alt-tabbed out of Cyberpunk, Windows itself was completely responsive.

I could open my browser, watch YouTube and use the laptop normally without any noticeable performance issues.

However, as soon as I returned to Cyberpunk, the graphical corruption and severe FPS drop were still present.

I eventually closed Cyberpunk and launched it again. Everything immediately returned to normal.

I subsequently played several other games that day without experiencing any problems.

I also noticed a Game Bar crash recorded on the same day, although I haven't established whether it happened at the same time as the Cyberpunk incident.

I'm not necessarily assuming these two problems are related, but I thought it was worth mentioning both.

Additional information

I generally run the laptop in ASUS Armoury Crate's higher-performance modes, which allow increased power consumption and more aggressive fan cooling.

I haven't manually overclocked the CPU or GPU.

The laptop is designed for high-performance gaming, and I haven't experienced any consistent performance issues, unexpected shutdowns or blue screens.

Apart from these incidents, the system has been running extremely well.

What I'm trying to find out

Has anyone else experienced any of the following recently?

  1. Xbox Game Bar repeatedly crashing or hanging in Windows Reliability Monitor, even when you're not actively using its overlay.
  2. Brief system freezes where video and mouse input stop responding, followed by delayed input being registered when the system recovers.
  3. Similar problems on newer ASUS ROG laptops or systems using NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPUs.
  4. Sudden graphical corruption and severe FPS drops in Cyberpunk 2077 that disappear completely after restarting the game.

I'm particularly interested in whether this could be related to a recent Windows update, NVIDIA driver update or Xbox Game Bar update.

I'm planning to investigate Event Viewer and test whether disabling Game Bar makes any difference, but I'd really appreciate hearing whether anyone else has encountered similar symptoms.

Thanks in advance!

Open | Windows PC freezing after closing game

Hello,

For the past half a year I’ve been having an issue with my computer where whenever I close out of a game the pc will hard freeze. They only way to fix so far is to manually power off and on again. I’ve checked my bios and graphics and everything is up to date. There have also been times where it will hard freeze on me just idling or when using google chrome. I’ve just about done everything I think I could do but I still hard freeze.

Any tips or solutions?

Open | Windows Laptop will not boot

I have a 2 year old windows 11 laptop that will not boot. When I power cycle it, the logo appears on screen for about 20 seconds, then I hear the startup sound, then the screen goes black. There is no way to interact with the laptop besides powering it off and on. The battery is not removable, and when I attempt to boot into safe mode, by powering off right after powering on 2-4 times, it doesn’t do anything. Please help, I don’t want to lose my entire album I’ve been working on the past 6 months.

Open | Hardware PC randomly stops outputting video while PC keeps running, but no input is possible. Repeated NVIDIA GPU timeout errors (RTX 3070)

Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with a recurring issue with my PC for a while now, and I'm hoping someone can help me narrow down the cause. It happens roughly once a day, and I'm running out of things to try.

PC specs

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 4800 MT/s (Viper)
  • PSU: Aero Bronze 700W
  • Cooling: Liquid-cooled CPU
  • OS: Windows 11

What happens

My PC randomly stops outputting video. Both monitors lose signal and go black, but the PC itself appears to keep running.

This isn't limited to a particular game. It can happen with any game or application that puts a decent amount of load on the GPU. I've experienced it while playing Hell Let Loose, Valheim, as well as while generating images locally with ComfyUI.

When it happens:

  • Both monitors suddenly lose their video signal.
  • Mouse and keyboard input stop working. Caps Lock and Num Lock don't respond, and pressing Ctrl + Win + Shift + B doesn't restore the display.
  • Audio can continue playing after the video output disappears. During the latest incident, YouTube audio continued for another two minutes before I shut it off.
  • The fans keep spinning, and the PC doesn't recover by itself.
  • I have to hold the physical power button to force it to shut down.
  • RGB lighting can remain on after full shutdown.

So it doesn't appear to be a normal shutdown or simply a monitor losing signal. The video output disappears, input stops working, and the system doesn't recover, even though parts of the PC continue operating.

Crash dump analysis

I've examined several files in C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG using WinDbg. The dumps repeatedly point to NVIDIA's graphics driver path.

1. VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (117)

Dump: WATCHDOG-20261024-1205.dmp

The analysis showed:

  • VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (117)
  • Failure.Bucket: LKD_0x117_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys
  • The display driver failed to respond in a timely fashion.
  • The stack included dxgkrnl!TdrCollectDbgInfoStage1, dxgmms2!VidSchiReportHwHang, and dxgmms2!VidSchiCheckHwProgress.

2. Repeated VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141)

I have multiple dumps from October 24 and October 25 showing this error, including the latest crash at approximately 23:05 on October 25.

The recurring details are:

  • VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141)
  • Failure.Bucket: LKD_0x141_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys
  • MODULE_NAME: nvlddmkm
  • IMAGE_NAME: nvlddmkm.sys
  • SYMBOL_NAME: nvlddmkm+193b0a0

The same NVIDIA driver offset, +193b0a0, appears in multiple dumps.

The stack traces include functions such as:

  • dxgkrnl!TdrCollectDbgInfoStage1
  • dxgmms2!VidSchiResetEngine or dxgmms2!VidSchiResetHwEngine
  • dxgmms2!VidSchiCheckHwProgress

My understanding is that these errors indicate a graphics engine timing out and Windows detecting that it isn't responding properly.

3. VIDEO_MINIPORT_BLACK_SCREEN_LIVEDUMP (1b8)

Another dump from the latest incident showed:

  • VIDEO_MINIPORT_BLACK_SCREEN_LIVEDUMP (1b8)
  • MODULE_NAME: dxgkrnl
  • IMAGE_NAME: dxgkrnl.sys
  • PROCESS_NAME: dwm.exe
  • FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: LKD_0x1B8_dxgkrnl!DxgCreateLiveDumpWithDriverBlob

The stack included DISPLAYDIAGNOSTICADAPTERDATA::CreateMiniportBlackboxLiveDump and DISPLAYSTATECHECKER::LogAllDisplayDiagInfo.

From what I understand, this is a diagnostic dump captured during the black-screen incident, rather than necessarily a separate underlying failure.

4. Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor

  • I checked Event Viewer for Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger events and found none in the period I checked.
  • Reliability Monitor shows multiple hardware error reports around the times of the crashes.
  • The crashes require a forced shutdown because the display and input never recover.

What I've already tried

  • Clean NVIDIA driver installation: Performed a clean installation, but the issue continued.
  • Different NVIDIA driver versions: The issue has also occurred with older driver versions.
  • SignalRGB: Disabled it, but the crashes continued.
  • X3D Turbo Mode: Disabled it.
  • MSI Afterburner power limit: Reduced the GPU power limit to 80%. The issue still occurred with this limit. I haven't intentionally changed the GPU core clock or voltage.
  • Temperature monitoring: Checked idle readings using HWiNFO. The GPU was around 36°C and the hotspot around 48.5°C. I haven't captured temperatures under load yet.

I also noticed that EasyTuneEngineService is running, although I haven't knowingly used EasyTune to change any settings.

Additional hardware details

  • The RTX 3070's two 8-pin power connectors are connected using a single daisy-chained cable.
  • The CPU is liquid-cooled.
  • I built the PC myself, didn't change any big BIOS settings.
  • The GPU fans sometimes aren't spinning after reboot, although I understand they may have a zero-RPM mode at low temperatures.

What I'm looking for help with

Given the repeated 0x141 and 0x117 errors pointing to nvlddmkm.sys, along with the recurring black-screen diagnostic dumps, I'm trying to determine whether the likely cause is:

  • A faulty or unstable RTX 3070
  • PSU or GPU power-delivery problems
  • A PCIe connection or motherboard issue
  • A driver, Windows, or software interaction
  • Something else that I'm overlooking

The fact that lowering the GPU power limit to 80% didn't stop the crashes and that the issue persists across driver versions has made this harder to narrow down.

What would you investigate next, given these specific dump findings and troubleshooting steps? Is there a reliable way to distinguish a GPU fault from a PSU or power-delivery issue without immediately replacing parts?

Thanks!

Open | Windows Windows 11 constant disconnect noise when after screen timeout?

When my screens turn off after the set time, i hear the USB disconnect sound every 2-3 minutes.

I don't have any peripherals connected other than the monitors, since I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

I tried Nirsoft's USBlogger, and nothing shows up. Nothing shows up on the windows event viewer either.

I also turned off my monitor's auto detect input.

Any ideas why my PC does this?

Open | Hardware No display and cannot enter BIOS whenever a SATA data cable is plugged in — B550M K rev. 1.0 / Goodram CX400

I’m troubleshooting a friend’s PC and would appreciate a second opinion before returning the motherboard. Whenever the SATA data cable is connected to the motherboard, the PC powers on but gives no display and I cannot enter BIOS. This also happens when a known-good SATA data cable is plugged into the motherboard only, with the other end left completely disconnected.

Hardware

- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M K rev. 1.0

- BIOS: F7

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT

- RAM: Patriot Viper Elite II, 2 x 8 GB DDR4-3200

- SSD: Goodram CX400 1 TB, 2.5-inch SATA

- GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB

- PSU: Gigabyte GP-P650SS, 650 W

- Case: Antec AX20

What happened and what I tested

  1. Before the SATA problem, the PC had a separate problem where it powered on but showed no display. We reseated the RAM and GPU and cleared CMOS; after that, the PC started normally and we could enter BIOS.

  2. Only after that earlier problem was fixed did we connect the SATA SSD. From that point on, connecting the SATA data cable to the motherboard made the PC power on with no display every time, and we could not enter BIOS.

  3. SATA power connected by itself did not prevent POST.

  4. Connecting the SATA data cable to the SSD made the PC power on with no display every time.

  5. The SSD was taken to a shop. They formatted it and confirmed that the SSD worked there. The old SATA data cable also worked there.

  6. I replaced the data cable with a new cable known to work. The PC still powered on with no display every time.

  7. I tried all four motherboard SATA ports. The result was the same on each one.

  8. I tried different SATA power connectors/cables from the PSU. The result was the same.

  9. BIOS settings checked: SATA mode is AHCI and Chipset SATA Port Enable is Enabled. The ports show “Not Installed” when no drive is connected.

  10. I tested one RAM stick at a time in the A2 slot, using both sticks.

  11. I reseated the GPU.

  12. The most revealing test: with the SSD disconnected at the far end, I plugged the new known-good SATA cable into a motherboard SATA port only. The PC still powered on with no display, and I could not enter BIOS. With no SATA cable inserted, it started normally.

Current question

So my question is, what else could I test before RMA-ing the motherboard? I don’t have another motherboard to test. I was thinking of taking it to a repair shop so they can perhaps swap the motherboard.

Open | Software Monitors blacking out occasionally when a TV is connected but off.

I have a Windows 11 PC hooked up to two monitors and a TV, all directly wired through Displayport or HDMI. The two monitors are my normal use PC setup, the TV I want to leave plugged in but off so that when I use it to watch shows I can just turn it on and run everything through the PC.

My issue is that every so often while the TV is off, the two monitors will behave as if another monitor was just disconnected/plugged in. The windows briefly resize, then black out for a moment, then returns to normal. It never does this if the TV is on, it never does this if the TV is disconnected.

I have tried configuring the TV to extend the desktop, I have tried mirroring either the primary or secondary display, I have also turned off the Windows setting to minimize windows when a monitor is disconnected. Nothing I have been able to think of changes the behavior.

GPU is a 4080, monitors are ASUS ROG XG32UCWG 32 Inch 4K, ASUS ROG XG27AQDMGR 27 Inch 1440p. TV is a TCL QM7k.

Appreciate any ideas.

Open | Software What to do after plugging my old data into my new laptop

I'm using an external ssd which has all the data from my previous dead laptop, I want to use the external ssd as extra space for games and such but don't know how to move forward with freeing up the space.

Do I just save all the files I need on my local disk and delete everything afterwards?
Or do I need to cleanly uninstall them using every apps uninstall software?
Or use a third party uninstaller software?

Open | Windows High-End PC (Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RTX 5070 Ti) – Poor Motion Smoothness Despite Stable Frametime Graphs. Looking for Advanced Technical Help.

Hi everyone,
I’m posting because I’ve been trying to solve a persistent gaming smoothness issue for quite some time, and I still haven’t been able to identify the actual cause.
I’ve invested a significant amount of money into my PC and replaced almost every major hardware component, yet I continue to experience inconsistent motion smoothness, particularly in competitive games.
My main issue isn’t low FPS. It’s poor perceived motion smoothness, even when frametime graphs appear stable.
My PC Specifications
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Windforce 16GB
Motherboard: MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi
RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000MHz CL30
SSD: Samsung 980 NVMe 1TB
Monitor: HP OMEN 27qs, 27-inch IPS, 2560×1440, 240Hz
PSU: 1000W
CPU Cooling: 360mm AIO
Operating System: Windows 11
Network: Fiber-optic Ethernet connection, Realtek 2.5GbE controller
1. Poor Motion Smoothness Despite Stable Frametimes
While gaming, especially when moving the camera slowly or quickly, the image often feels inconsistent, jittery, or slightly shaky.
What’s particularly frustrating is that this happens even when the frametime graph looks relatively stable.
For example, I can observe frametime fluctuations between 5.7ms and 6.1ms without any obvious spikes, yet camera movement still doesn’t look completely smooth.
I’ve experienced the same behavior using both mouse and keyboard and a controller.
2. Call of Duty
In Call of Duty, particularly during more demanding campaign sections, camera movement can become noticeably inconsistent.
Multiplayer generally performs better, but I still struggle to achieve the level of smoothness I’m looking for.
I’ve tested multiple combinations of:
Low, medium, and high graphics settings.
Different DLSS modes and presets.
1080p and 1440p resolutions.
Uncapped FPS and manual frame limiters.
NVIDIA Reflex.
Different CPU and RAM configurations.
Despite all these adjustments, the experience remains inconsistent.
3. Gears of War
I’ve experienced similar issues in Gears of War.
Some campaign areas feel extremely smooth, while others suffer from inconsistent motion.
Even in multiplayer, with seemingly stable frametimes, I can perceive subtle microstutters and uneven camera movement.
I’ve tried different frame caps, including 120 and 165 FPS, using tools such as RivaTuner Statistics Server.
Additionally, in Horde mode, I’ve occasionally noticed delayed hit registration, delayed audio feedback, and enemies reacting late to shots, almost as if there were some kind of desynchronization.
4. Troubleshooting I’ve Already Done
Before suggesting the usual basic optimizations, please understand that I’ve already spent countless hours testing different configurations.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
Multiple clean installations of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
BIOS updates and CMOS resets.
Installing official motherboard chipset and device drivers.
Testing multiple NVIDIA driver versions.
RAM stability testing with TM5 and MemTest, without errors.
Adjusting PBO, Curve Optimizer, and PPT/TDC/EDC limits.
Testing different SOC and DRAM voltages.
Monitoring CPU/GPU temperatures, frequencies, and utilization.
Running LatencyMon to investigate potential driver latency issues.
Performing clean Windows boots.
Investigating startup entries, services, and drivers using Microsoft Autoruns.
Testing different FPS limiters.
Adjusting and testing Ethernet adapter settings.
CPU and GPU temperatures are consistently good, with no obvious signs of thermal throttling.
One interesting observation is that disabling certain startup entries and components using Autoruns noticeably improved perceived smoothness in some games.
This makes me wonder whether some kind of software interference, driver conflict, or Windows-level issue could be involved.
5. My Main Technical Questions
I’m particularly interested in understanding the following:
Can frametimes appear stable while actual on-screen motion remains uneven due to frame presentation or display timing issues?
Can Windows services, drivers, or background components interfere with perceived smoothness without triggering obvious warnings in LatencyMon?
Could my 240Hz IPS monitor contribute to the perceived lack of motion clarity, even when frame delivery appears consistent?
Could my Samsung 980 NVMe SSD, which lacks dedicated DRAM, affect asset streaming or introduce occasional interruptions during gameplay?
Are there more advanced diagnostic tools than MSI Afterburner and LatencyMon for investigating actual frame presentation, displayed frame timing, and motion consistency?
Has anyone experienced similar issues with AMD X3D processors combined with recent NVIDIA GPUs?
6. What I’m Actually Trying to Achieve
I’m not simply chasing higher FPS numbers.
My goal is consistent, clear, responsive camera movement without perceptible microstuttering or uneven motion, ideally without relying on adaptive synchronization technologies.
I believe my hardware should be capable of delivering an excellent gaming experience.
I’d really appreciate input from people with advanced knowledge of:
Frame pacing and frame presentation.
Windows graphics scheduling and driver behavior.
Display response times and motion clarity.
AMD Ryzen X3D architecture.
NVIDIA driver optimization.
PC gaming performance diagnostics.
I’m willing to perform detailed technical tests, but I’d prefer suggestions that help identify a measurable root cause rather than generic registry tweaks or commonly repeated Windows optimization guides.
Has anyone experienced something similar and actually managed to identify or fix the underlying problem?
Any serious technical insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Open | Phone Why won’t Apple turn off the proximity sensors when on a Video call on google meets, Discord, Messenger, or anything besides FaceTime?

Exactly the post Apple wont turn off the proximity sensors when on a Video call on google meets, Discord, Messenger, or anything except FaceTime and speaker calls.

It’s super annoying as I’m literally on a video call as my whole screen is being blacked out just from using my phone.

Open | Windows I have been getting random crashes recently on my PC

I am using Windows 11 on a desktop and it's a pretty low end build. These crashes didn't happen consistently. Sometimes they only happen when I am gaming sometimes, sometimes when I left it idle. And when it happened my keyboard and mouse freeze and I had to restart it. And sometimes it doesn't even happen at all while gaming

And I am using an UPS

My specs (I apologise I don't exactly know the specs of my my power supply)

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F

NVIDIA GeForce G210

DDR4 8 GB

Vi550 S3 SSD

And according to reliability history, it's a hardware problem

Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent

Code:124

Parameter 1: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Parameter 2: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Parameter 3: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Parameter 4: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Open | Windows Audio and video delays (Windows 11)

I’ve had these weird audio and video delays that have been happening for a few days now. Windows 11. (I’ll put it in bullet form for convenience):

• Whenever I connect my headphones via Bluetooth, I always adjust the volume sliders in the bottom right of the desktop. When you change volume, it usually does a ping. I noticed that the ping now only happens after a 5-10 second delay AFTER I adjust it.

• Whenever I join a discord call in a server, there is a weird delay for that as well. I won’t hear anything for ten seconds and then all of a sudden I’ll hear my entrance sound. Also, whenever someone else joins, I’ll hear them say hello BEFORE I hear their entrance sound

• Whenever I try playing a video (whether through the media player or a streaming app) there is a similar 5-10 second delay.

My headphone software is up to date, as is windows 11. Not sure what’s going on.
