Michael Postava (Goalie) of the Detroit Red Wings is making his first career NHL start tonight vs Edmonton
Postava made his NHL debut Oct 22 2026 vs the Canucks playing 20 minutes in relief of John Gibson who started the game. Postava allowed 1 goal against Vancouver.
Pretty interesting move by Head Coach Mccellan, what does everybody think? The wings sub walks around with an aura of superiority believing that their goalie prospec pool is #1 in the world and that the Cossa issue was not even a problem.

The Vancouver Canucks have lost 10 games in a row in consecutive seasons for the first time ever
With tonight being the 10th consecutive loss and last year having a losing streak of 11, theyâve achieved unwanted history. The only other 10-game losing streak theyâve had in their history was in the 1997-98 season.

/r/Hockey National Hockey League Power Rankings Week October 19 - October 25, 2026
Thank You
Thank you to all of the volunteers doing the National Hockey League power rankings. Each ranker has their own system and have their own reasonings and analysis. It truly is a lot of work.

Visualization
The visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /r/hockey opinion.
It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it here
Process
How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.
The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!
Rankings
| Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (1.52) | Carolina Hurricanes | - | 9-2-2 | 2-0-1 | timmablimma says The game against Edmonton I almost hope was a Stanley Cup Final preview because that was amazing. It would've been better if we had Jordan Staal to win a faceoff on the PK as most of Edmonton's goals were 16 seconds of a faceoff. That said the team took the yearly State Fair road trip and is an amazing 7-1-1 away from Lenovo Center. Tuesday's matchup against Boston will feature the top 2 in the East and will be a good litmus test for both. Oh and Nikishin is now signed, so things are definitely still trending in the right direction. It will be interesting when Hall is back if Blake-Stankoven-Ehlers stay together or if that goes back to the dominant playoff line because they look amazing too! |
| 2 (2.8) | Boston Bruins | +2 | 9-2-1 | 2-0-1 | maxpowr9 says The Bs continue to buzz. I love how so many analysts said we'd be terrible this season. I figured they would struggle against Dallas after a long road trip, but they at least got a point. So happy DiPietro got his first career shutout too. That Sharks game was messy. Bruins have been much better staying out of the box this season, but it got out of hand the PK struggled because of it. Kind of amusing that Borgan's only two goals so far are empty netters against the Sharks. Pasta tying Bergy for goals scored as a Bruin is why I am glad he was named captain. |
| 3 (3.56) | Edmonton Oilers | - | 8-2-1 | 2-1-0 | eatingasspatties says Levi going down is... concerning for the Oilers. They can't seem to just get a player back from injury without sacrificing another, with Ekholm and Levi being the newest additions to the injury train. But you can't cry about 8-2-1 |
| 4 (6.2) | Utah Mammoth | +4 | 8-4-0 | 2-1-0 | oksoundtracks says Okay, we definitely have a goaltending problem. Veggie has had a pretty atrocious start to the season, and itâs pretty reasonable to say heâs the reason we lost our game in Seattle. Not to mention the fact that we canât rely on our ability to come back when weâre down. That being said, I love how weâre playing. Lee and Trochek are already incredible pickups for us, Cooley and Gunner are taking that next leap, the Captain is brilliant as always, and our PP is top in the league. Veggie has always been an inconsistent goalie, so the fact weâre 8-4-0 despite his rough patch is as close to a miracle as you can get in hockey. We just need to keep improving, not take our foot off the gas, and try to keep ourselves neat the top of the central. I believe in our boys, Tusks Up! |
| 5 (6.36) | Vegas Golden Knights | -3 | 8-4-1 | 0-2-1 | bahamas_is_relevant says Aaaaand it all comes to a screeching halt. VGK's scorching-hot start came to a quick end at the hands of back-to-back 6-2 losses to Tampa and St. Louis, followed by getting thoroughly cooked by an ancient Cam Talbot to officially go winless on the week. The offense has forgotten how to score and the goaltending renaissance is already over, with Carter Hart and Adin Hill posting save percentages south of .800 in consecutive games. With Hart in paritcular, it's becoming apparent he inflated his stats against bad teams, as all three of his bad performances came against the only three playoff teams we've faced. With the Hellebuyck ship sailing, this team's options for goalie help are few and far between. Save us, Carl Lindbom. Oh, and congrats to Mitch Marner on his second kid! More than understandable absence against the Blues. |
| 6 (6.48) | Tampa Bay Lightning | -1 | 7-3-1 | 1-1-1 | keepitsteadyidiots says Tough road trip but got through at NHL .500 Kuch now holds the most points ever by a Bolt. Time flies way too fast for this already to be his 14th as Bolt. Well deserved and once the cap increase is confirmed he will be signed to a deal that makes him a lifelong Bolt. |
| 7 (6.92) | Minnesota Wild | - | 8-3-2 | 2-1-1 | We are looking for a Wild ranker, if you are a Wild fan and would like to be a ranker then please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 |
| 8 (8.44) | Dallas Stars | +5 | 7-3-1 | 3-0-0 | rawrberry_ says The Stars are on a five game winning streak and considering how the Stars season started it is a nice change of pace. Mikko had a hatty and Wyatt finally decided it was time to start scoring some goals. Against the Islanders Benn and Seguin reminded us all of how they played back in 2015. Prior to Sundays game the Stars were the only team to have fewer than 20 goals allowed this season and now the Stars have joined the rest of the league and have allowed at least 20 goals. The Stars continue their home stand with a game against the Devils this week. |
| 9 (8.44) | Ottawa Senators | +1 | 8-4-0 | 2-1-0 | driftshade11 says Wednesdayâs game was a generational hate watch and easily the best game this team has played all season, but besides that itâs been more of the same: stretches of dominance and sloppiness as we continue to try to bank points while waiting for everyone to get healthy. |
| 10 (11.16) | Colorado Avalanche | -4 | 6-5-1 | 1-3-0 | hockeycross says Bad week Avs need to get consistent. |
| 11 (12.0) | New Jersey Devils | +10 | 7-4-0 | 3-0-0 | silkeystev says Holy crap, we did it. We spent on a high end goalie. If Helle can play as well as he has in the past years, we can be a real team, a real contender. Allen being in a proper backup role with a goalie who can keep us in games we struggle? I'm completely unsurprised it cost us MercDawg, our ironman will be missed, but this changed every based on our scoring this past week.... Are we really moving from the lower mid tier of the league? |
| 12 (12.84) | Toronto Maple Leafs | +11 | 7-4-2 | 4-0-0 | exter10 says The vibes are immaculate in Toronto! A 4-game win streak capped off by a 7-2 thrashing of the Oilers cements the Leafs firmly in "we're back" territory. Sadly the PK streak was ended Saturday at 30, but it's still 1st in the league, while the powerplay is now 3rd. 9 points in 2 games from the 4th line is a ridiculous stat, as are the two goals from Troy "Bobby Hull" Stecher. |
| 13 (13.64) | Washington Capitals | -1 | 6-4-0 | 1-1-0 | dagetawayman421 says Can the Capitals stay healthy? Survey says... no. It's one after another trip to IR with this team. The Caps digging into Hershey this early in the season is so unusual that they sent Justin Holl down when Roy got healthy and now, due to the new rules, they couldn't bring him back up when Desharnais had surgery for his appendix. The result was 7 and a half minutes of Big Mac where he wasn't on the ice for a goal against. The big problems defensively are watching Hutson and Chychrun right now. Hutson is playing like he can skate back and cover guys when he carries the puck in, and it's not working in the NHL. Meanwhile, Chychrun is making galaxy-brain decisions in his own zone (a la John Carlson). Hopefully it can be fixed sooner rather than later because there were some really questionable choices he made that resulted in puck in the back of the net. Hopefully the Jets put Stevenson on waivers and the Caps can claim him. |
| 14 (13.72) | New York Rangers | -3 | 7-5-1 | 1-2-0 | nodessb says Not the greatest week and there are certainly issues apparent, but regardless I'm having a better time this season than I did throughout last season. After Igor went down and was ruled out for the year, I think I've just gotten in the mindset of anything good this year is playing with house money so seeing Laf and Gabe continue to play relatively well is exciting. Laf is even tied for third in the league in goals which has been awesome. I really hope he continues playing well and fingers crossed Garand doesn't lose confidence because of a tough stretch. LGR! |
| 15 (14.28) | Florida Panthers | -6 | 6-4-2 | 1-2-0 | We are looking for a new Panthers ranker, if you are a Panthers fan and would like to be a ranker then please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 |
| 16 (14.4) | Seattle Kraken | -2 | 7-4-1 | 2-1-0 | soupyhands says Always fun to be part of some other team's "never happened in the history of the league" stat |
| 17 (15.76) | MontrĂŠal Canadiens | - | 6-3-2 | 2-0-1 | ryanwalts says Good news is that they finally held a lead. Bad news, it was against a bottom feeder after blowing a crap load of other leads and losing their superstar 1C for 2-4 weeks. With injuries mounting, itâs really unfortunate that they couldnât have banked more points. Their overall record is alright, but theyâll need to play at least .500 hockey or better over the next few weeks if they donât want a massive hole to climb out when Suzuki is back. The bright side is that their overall 5v5 play is still looking much improved, and the penalty kill seems to be gelling well. Danaultâs been excellent, forming one of the best lines in the league in xG with Texier and Bolduc. The star players have been reasonably productive, especially considering the anemic powerplay and Demidov being out. If that powerplay can come alive, itâll help a ton in weathering the storm. |
| 18 (19.12) | San Jose Sharks | +1 | 6-5-1 | 2-2-0 | the_homestarmy says San Jose had a fairly solid road trip, all things considered, and held their own against some good Eastern Conference teams. But the faults in this team are still bare to see: confounding third period performances, improved but still mediocre defense, and unreliable secondary scoring behind Celebrini. The power play has been gelling, though. If the 5v5 scoring can pick up, this team can take another big step. |
| 19 (19.2) | New York Islanders | +1 | 5-4-2 | 1-1-1 | ThatMikeGuy429 says I know this week is going to be bad, a bunch of teams that we have not played against since the snake was captain... I fully expect over the next week or two us to drop 3-6 spots. Also Barzal, when are you coming back? We need you... |
| 20 (21.08) | Winnipeg Jets | -4 | 4-4-3 | 0-2-1 | rasera says Seems like everyone respected the heritage classic except for the boys on the ice. What do you even do with this team right now? The young guys look good, but aren't producing. We're still a one line team with a goalie performing well above what's expected of them, and you've now lost 5 1-goal games in a row. You're getting killed 5 on 5, it seems like nobody has the stamina to play all 60 minutes anymore, and Arniel's solution is to throw the first line out for 25 minutes a night. So what are you supposed to do? The aging vets of last year didn't cut it, and injecting youth and speed hasn't worked either. And a Jets front office job is the safest job in the world, except for maybe a throw pillow inspector. So what do you even do? Because it's just disappointing and exhausting to spend money that fans no longer really have, to watch a team that can't, or refuses to fix itself, which ultimately flails futilely around the rink. I don't have an answer, do you? |
| 21 (21.16) | Buffalo Sabres | -3 | 4-4-3 | 0-1-1 | dr3amweav3r says This team is atrocious in their own end and UPL sure as fuck ain't bailing them out. Cool to get loser points, but a loss is a loss. Still some of the worst special teams I've ever seen. We're about to get into fire somebody territory if this keeps up. Go sword team. |
| 22 (21.28) | Anaheim Ducks | -7 | 5-6-0 | 1-3-0 | We are looking for a Ducks ranker, if you are a Ducks fan and would like to be a ranker then please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 |
| 23 (22.2) | St. Louis Blues | +3 | 5-5-1 | 2-1-0 | No Blues burb this week, sorry. |
| 24 (22.48) | Pittsburgh Penguins | +1 | 5-6-1 | 2-1-0 | No Pens blurb this week, sorry. |
| 25 (24.96) | Detroit Red Wings | +2 | 4-4-3 | 1-1-1 | americanada98 says Another .500 week for the Wings. Raymond finally started clicking with MBN joining his line. Gibson is off to a rough start like he was last year before settling in. But the big causes of doom and gloom for this team still havent been resolved, and from what info we have, theres no real indication they will be any time soon |
| 26 (25.04) | Nashville Predators | -4 | 4-3-4 | 1-1-1 | No Preds blurb this week, sorry. |
| 27 (25.44) | Columbus Blue Jackets | -3 | 4-5-0 | 1-1-0 | steckums says Only two games this week. An embarrassing effort vs Toronto and a very good effort vs Vegas. We cannot have a Jekyll and Hyde season. Which team will show up for each period? Will we make it out of the 2nd period tied? Or down by four goals? |
| 28 (27.32) | Calgary Flames | +2 | 4-6-0 | 2-0-0 | kellervo says The past is dead, there is nothing for us there. We are 4-1 in our last five and rolling one of the best powerplay units we've had in years. The bottom's inevitably going to fall out (we are atrocious at 5v5) but seeing the young guys running the powerplay instead of the ancient unit from last year gives us a hopeful look at the future. |
| 29 (28.56) | Philadelphia Flyers | +2 | 3-7-3 | 2-1-0 | assassin2107 says Kept the win streaking going for another 2 games this week, which is more then I thought that they'd do. I do find it hilarious that this has come from a strong PP and great goaltending, two things that historically the Flyers have lacked (And yeah Woll made mistakes Sat against Anaheim, but still came out with positive GSAX). But it turns out that Martone/Michkov are really good, and when the rest of the team is pitching in too, this team can win games. I just hope that this win streak didn't save Tocchet's job completely, he should still be on an extreme hot seat IMO |
| 30 (29.88) | Chicago Blackhawks | -2 | 3-8-0 | 0-2-0 | sandman730 says After 5 days off, the Hawks dropping back-to-back home games to Montreal (4-1) and Florida (3-2) to fall to 3-8-0 on the season. Ian Cole played in his 1,000th NHL game. Special teams woes plagued the Hawks, as they allowed a SHG to the Canadiens and went a combined 0-for-12 on the PP. |
| 31 (30.16) | Los Angeles Kings | +1 | 2-5-2 | 2-1-0 | raymondliang says Still dogshit. Unless Kempe/Panarin score multiple and goaltending is a brick wall, we are not winning any games. Slow and trash bottom 9 and defense. |
| 32 (31.6) | Vancouver Canucks | -3 | 2-10-1 | 0-3-0 | We are looking for a new Canucks ranker, if you are a Canucks fan and would like to be a ranker then please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 |
