There are no magicians here.

Some questions will not be answered or replied to. As an example: "my game crashes" or "my download speed is slow" is not something you should even really expect an answer to. Troubleshooting and finding the solution to these issues requires a lot more information than simply stating "game doesn't launch", such as detailed information on when the issue started and how you perceive it, screenshots of any errors or the problem itself, crash logs, system specs, etc.

Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, an internet search engine, or a different support forum like /r/SteamSupport if no one here can offer any help. Additionally, every game on Steam has its own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.

Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues...

Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread.

Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!

This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.

Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.

Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".

There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.

Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Discussion Learned today that Steam profile ban banners automatically disappear after ~7 years (2,555 days)

Hey guys,

I was checking through some old bookmarked Steam profiles today and noticed something surprising about how Steam displays profile bans long-term.

One of the profiles I had saved originally had a clear red "1 VAC ban on record" banner showing over 2,500 days ago. But when I visited the profile page today, the red notice was completely gone, leaving the profile status looking totally clean to the public.

I was pretty confused at first because Valve always states that VAC bans are permanent. After looking into how Steam's interface works, it turns out that while the backend ban restrictions remain 100% permanent (the account still can't play on VAC servers or trade items for that game), Steam automatically hides the public red badge on profile pages once exactly 7 years (2,555 days) have passed.

I always thought those public banners stayed on profiles forever. Had anyone else noticed this automatic UI cleanup before?

Discussion Looks like steam added back average completion rates and separated individual completions from completed groups. I think that's all I wanted them to fix personally.

PSA Dear players, if you want to contact a dev on Discord, please preface the message by mentioning you do not want to sell anything.

1.6k Upvotes

This is not the gamer's fault of course, but as a dev I constantly receive messages on discord that start like: "Hey I found your game and really love the concept. Here are two things I like that I (or genAI) probably reworded from the page description. What are you currently working on?"

Then it's a string along for two or three messages and finally they casually mention that could help with marketing or art or whatever. It's the string along that bothers me, because I wasted time to respond.

So most of the time I stopped responding or immediately have to mention that I'm not buying anything. However, I would hate to lose out on talking to an actual fan of the game because of this.

And if my 500 wishlist game receives so many of these messages, I cannot imagine what an actually popular game gets.

Discussion [Discussion] what to do with steam points

Post image
• Upvotes

I’ve bought all the profile customization items, a bunch of avatars, and so on, but I still have tons of points left. What should I do now? Should I just keep buying the seasonal badge every year for the XP, or is there something else?

Suggestion As 2026 is coming to an end and we will get another Steam Rewind, I think there should be an option to buy more than just 1 extra Steam Showcase

Discussion Achievement percentage on the Completion Showcase returns with the option to not use it

Post image
55 Upvotes

This was one of mine (and I'm sure many others) recommendation in the feedback thread when Steam removed the percentage originally, That personally I don't care either way for the percentage but I know that others do, so having the option to display it or not would be a nice addition to have while they are working on the system

Discussion While Youtube is pushing to remove the Dislike button, Steam lets you see a detailed graph of reviews.

I feel like this feature is extremely underrated. It really lets you track exactly how users responded to the game at launch and at different events (patches, upgrades). Its like the only actual democratic place where people can share exactly how they feel about entertainment, instead of being forced to like it.

Question Can minors sign up as developers on Steam?

I'm Japanese and not very good at English, so this was translated using a website. I'm sorry if it's hard to read.

I just turned 16 and have been making games using Godot.

I’m getting pretty close to finishing one, so I thought I’d release it on Steam soon. But it seems I need to register as a developer to do that.

While it’s apparently not against the rules for minors to do so, I haven’t seen many reports online of people actually being able to register, and I’ve never seen any Japanese people do it, so I’m wondering if it might be illegal in Japan.

My parents are willing to help if I ask, but I’d rather get it done now if possible—it’ll be a hassle to register on my own later and transfer the game over.

There’s a lot I don’t know about this, so I’d really appreciate some advice!

Thanks for reading this far.

Question Game release

Quick question? How can you prevent your game from being stolen/copied? Like when you announce it or release a demo of your game as an indie developer or big studio?

(For example the needle in haystack game that has been copied on steam and copied on roblox)

Discussion I want to appreciate the absolute freedom of the Steam Deck

Thumbnail
gallery
83 Upvotes

I was more of a PC guy, cause at the time, i just liked the power and how much i could do on the PC. Like playing a game on one screen and having a guide or Spotify on the second screen

After i got Steam Deck, i mostly played games that are platform games like Rivals of Aether or Gravity Circuit.

But then i just started messing around with the Steam Deck and good god. The stuff you can do is nuts, especially when you compare it to other handhelds like Switch.

It may not be a big thing, but i really appreciate the freedom what we can do with the Stean Deck, like changing covers of games (first pic), changing boot up intros (second pic), modding games like on PC and such.

It's just so good i love it
