On AI clones: “Rather than relying on a single mechanic that someone can easily copy, you need to keep growing your game by adding features, personality, and creativity that stem from your own perspective,” he advised.

On visibility and flood of AI games: Giardino stated that the use of AI in game development was a decision to be made by each developer, adding (as transcribed by Inven): “We don’t want to be gatekeepers telling developers which tools they should or shouldn’t use.”

Discussion Learned today that Steam profile ban banners automatically disappear after ~7 years (2,555 days)

Hey guys,

I was checking through some old bookmarked Steam profiles today and noticed something surprising about how Steam displays profile bans long-term.

One of the profiles I had saved originally had a clear red "1 VAC ban on record" banner showing over 2,500 days ago. But when I visited the profile page today, the red notice was completely gone, leaving the profile status looking totally clean to the public.

I was pretty confused at first because Valve always states that VAC bans are permanent. After looking into how Steam's interface works, it turns out that while the backend ban restrictions remain 100% permanent (the account still can't play on VAC servers or trade items for that game), Steam automatically hides the public red badge on profile pages once exactly 7 years (2,555 days) have passed.

I always thought those public banners stayed on profiles forever. Had anyone else noticed this automatic UI cleanup before?

Discussion [Discussion] what to do with steam points

Post image
110 Upvotes

I’ve bought all the profile customization items, a bunch of avatars, and so on, but I still have tons of points left. What should I do now? Should I just keep buying the seasonal badge every year for the XP, or is there something else?

What can you actually do with Steam Points? 🤔

Here’s what people in the comments suggested:

  • Seasonal Badges: Spend points every summer and winter to level up your Steam profile and increase your chances of receiving booster packs.
  • Profile Customization: Buy animated backgrounds, avatars, avatar frames, mini-profile backgrounds, stickers, and profile themes.
  • Showcase Upgrades: Upgrade existing showcases and unlock additional ones to display games, achievements, reviews, and other stats.
  • Steam Deck / Big Picture Mode: Buy keyboard skins, startup movies, and other customization items.
  • Community Awards: Give awards to posts and reviews, although recipients no longer receive Steam Points.
  • Booster Packs: Higher Steam levels increase your booster pack drop rate, and you can sell eligible drops on the Community Market.
  • Trading Cards & Badges: Craft badges, collect cards, and work toward a higher Steam level.
  • Just Ignore Them: If you don't care about profile cosmetics or badges, you can simply let your points accumulate.
  • Donate or Support Developers: Not currently a standard Points Shop feature, but imagine being able to donate points to charity or support indie developers!
  • The Joke Option: Throw a party with Steam hookers and Steam coke. 💀

So, what's actually worth spending your points on? And what would you like Valve to add to the Points Shop?

Discussion Looks like steam added back average completion rates and separated individual completions from completed groups. I think that's all I wanted them to fix personally.

Suggestion Since Steam is redoing achievements, can we get bigger Completionist Showcases?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Since Steam is reworking achievements right now, it feels like the perfect time to ask for this. I've 100%'d many games, but each Completionist Showcase only shows 6 games (Max upgraded).

What I'd love to see:

- More game slots per Completionist Showcase (like an upgrade for it)
- Or an option to get more showcase slots
- Or let us merge two Completionist Showcases into one big one

PSA Dear players, if you want to contact a dev on Discord, please preface the message by mentioning you do not want to sell anything.

1.7k Upvotes

This is not the gamer's fault of course, but as a dev I constantly receive messages on discord that start like: "Hey I found your game and really love the concept. Here are two things I like that I (or genAI) probably reworded from the page description. What are you currently working on?"

Then it's a string along for two or three messages and finally they casually mention that could help with marketing or art or whatever. It's the string along that bothers me, because I wasted time to respond.

So most of the time I stopped responding or immediately have to mention that I'm not buying anything. However, I would hate to lose out on talking to an actual fan of the game because of this.

And if my 500 wishlist game receives so many of these messages, I cannot imagine what an actually popular game gets.

Suggestion As 2026 is coming to an end and we will get another Steam Rewind, I think there should be an option to buy more than just 1 extra Steam Showcase

Question What do achievement sets mean?

After the new Steam update, my perfectionist showcase shows that I have completed 24 games and 26 sets, but when I click to see the list, it just shows 26 games with all the achievements. Why is this?

Discussion Achievement percentage on the Completion Showcase returns with the option to not use it

Post image

This was one of mine (and I'm sure many others) recommendation in the feedback thread when Steam removed the percentage originally, That personally I don't care either way for the percentage but I know that others do, so having the option to display it or not would be a nice addition to have while they are working on the system

Question Steam mobile app signed me out,

And when I signed back in, I checked the authorized devices the one for my PC looked correct and but there was a second phone one, but when I clicked on it, it had the same information as you know where you live, and then you know those numbers as the one I was currently signed into on my phone and my PC sorry if this is poorly worded why did this happen but the sign in for the second phone was around the same time I signed in for when I had to sign back in

Discussion While Youtube is pushing to remove the Dislike button, Steam lets you see a detailed graph of reviews.

I feel like this feature is extremely underrated. It really lets you track exactly how users responded to the game at launch and at different events (patches, upgrades). Its like the only actual democratic place where people can share exactly how they feel about entertainment, instead of being forced to like it.

Discussion TIL you can queue multiple games to install at once

Not sure how well known this is, but you can Shift-click games in your Steam library to select multiple games and queue them all for installation at once. I've been installing them one at a time ever since I started using Steam...

Question Is there a way to stop steam family games appearing in the what's new section?

Like the title says, is there anyway to prevent games that I don't own appearing in the "What's New" tab in my Steam Library?

Thanks in advance :)

Question Can minors sign up as developers on Steam?

I'm Japanese and not very good at English, so this was translated using a website. I'm sorry if it's hard to read.

I just turned 16 and have been making games using Godot.

I’m getting pretty close to finishing one, so I thought I’d release it on Steam soon. But it seems I need to register as a developer to do that.

While it’s apparently not against the rules for minors to do so, I haven’t seen many reports online of people actually being able to register, and I’ve never seen any Japanese people do it, so I’m wondering if it might be illegal in Japan.

My parents are willing to help if I ask, but I’d rather get it done now if possible—it’ll be a hassle to register on my own later and transfer the game over.

There’s a lot I don’t know about this, so I’d really appreciate some advice!

Thanks for reading this far.

Question Is it necessary or better to have friends on Steam to play with?

Post image
0 Upvotes

As a new member of the platform and the community in general, I would like to know if you recommend any multiplayer games for meeting people. Or, alternatively, ask them if they think it's necessary to add more people to play with to make it more "entertaining".

I've tried with random Discord groups, but it's always one of two extremes: either they're fiercely competitive and toxic, or they're simply a group that dies after a few weeks...

Ty for your contribution 🤓

Suggestion Steam has to seperate Ai games from Normal games, you enter steam, you only see human-made game, you have to click on an icon to enter to the Ai steam store with only ai games

• Upvotes

this is the only way to save steam, ai games are flocking in steam, countless good games that could have taken the spotlight have been buried by the avalanche of slop.

I am not like people who say Ai games are bad because they use Ai, Ai can lower the entry-bar for video games, but it should never be prioritised over human-made projects which have taken countless hours of brutal effort, creativity and learning to make it happen.

Also Ai games now are only using games as a way to make a quick profit and are riddled with bugs and bad gameplay by people who haven't even watched a few youtube videos on the mechanics or are even smart in using the Ai.

Seperating the human-made games from the Ai in completely different stores or only accessed through an icon would solve this, people can explore Ai games when they wish to do so and not forced on them.

Also ai game makers if you even can call them that are now in a craze thinking they can make a quick buck off Ai games, its only when expectations die down, countless lose their money, that only the people who genuinely are passionate about video games yet don't have enough knowledge or experience can make passionate project without seeking to profit a lot from it.

Question Is wallpaper engine now safe ?

hi, so I just recently downloaded a wallpaper from wallpaper engine, havent really been using that app much. I found out that the wallpaper has like those clocks and music players in it. After downloading for a week i found out that it has the virus problem a few months ago with those application wallpapers, but when i panicked and checked the wallpaper type has been removed since like July. Idk how i still managed to download that wallpaper, is it completely safe or am I bringing a virus into my computer ? I'm not much of a steam user, i just purchased the app like 3 months ago to replace lively wallpaper so im pretty new. Thanks for helping, have a great day
