General Steam Next Fest & demos

Hi all! I wanted to make this post since Steam Next Fest is now in full swing, and I want to set clear expectations for r/playmygame.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting on this sub to self-promote, hoping it'll boost their standing in the Steam algorithm.

First, let me remind everyone of the purpose of the sub:

"A place for indie developers to share their freely playable games for feedback!"

This sub exists so you can find playtesters to try your prototype, tell you what's working (or not), what bugs you may have missed, etc.

It is not a sub for self-promotion (with an exception for Trailer Tuesdays). If we suspect your intent is to advertise, your post will get removed. Repeat offenders will get banned.

A quick reality check, and why self-promo doesn't make sense here:

  1. With 4,400 posts in the past 30 days, that's about one post every ten minutes. The odds of your post getting seen in the first place are pretty small.
  2. There are other subs that are better suited for that. They exist to advertise your game. r/gameDevPromotion is one.
  3. Other devs, generally speaking, are not your target audience. They may put in 15 minutes to help you out, but it rarely converts to sales.

Let's give developers who actually need playtesting the visibility they need, so when you need feedback on your new project, it's easier for you to get it as well.

Good luck with your demo, everyone.

If you are BRAND NEW to Reddit and want to post or share your game, read this beforehand!

Hi new Redditor! We're excited that you want to post about your game and have people play it. However, there's something you should know before you do.

Reddit will ban you if your first few posts/comments are links to somewhere.

Reddit has a robust, over-exuberant filtering system, necessary but for groups like this, it can be a slight pain. When you post your game and it's your first post, Reddit ASSUMES FIRST AND DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS LATER! You will be automatically shadowbanned, which means unable to post or even potentially comment.
Then we get a lot of posters coming to us in Modmail, asking " Why did my post disappear?" Nearly all Modmails are about this issue, roughly 3 a day.

Reddit is also a bit secretive about certain processes - how to get un-shadow-banned is not even really known to be possible. We don't see the record of shadowbanning at all so unless we know of the name and check it regularly, we wouldn't see it un-shadow-banned. We don't know how long your account needs to be open or how much Karma needs to be on it in order for the Filter to stop paying attention to you but we suspect around 100 Post and 100 Comment Karma.

So, if you are new to reddit and want to share your game - DON'T! Not yet, please go post cool/helpful/ positive comments and posts in other groups. Playtest other people's games here and comment on them prolifically. Once you have some "Reddit Post/Comment Karma" under your name first, THEN post your link to your game! You'll be less likely (but not immune, never immune) from being shadowbanned that way for sharing your game.

Edit: If AI recommended you post your game here....Don't Yet until you've developed your account as a good karma community member! This really isn't a "post and ghost" platform, it's community-first. AI doesn't realize this about Reddit.

P.S. This group is 100% responsible for getting accounts banned (when you don't do the steps above) but it's literally out of our control to reverse. So please....don't modmail us unless you KNOW you are not shadowbanned, you have the required karma, and yet your post is not showing up. Only then we can be of some help.

Game Title: Artcat

Playable Link: https://kisiou.itch.io/artcat

Platform: Web browser (desktop and mobile)

Description:

A while ago my 9-year-old daughter told me about a game she'd love to play: you're a cat with a little art studio, animals come in and order pictures, and you paint them for coins. So I made it for her. She loved it, and honestly I liked the concept so much myself that I decided to take it a bit further.

Artcat is a cozy pixel-art painting game. A client walks into your studio and shows you the picture they want. You paint it cell by cell with the paints you have, and you get paid by how closely it matches the order. A perfect match earns three stars and a very happy client. Between days you spend your coins on furniture to make your studio cozier. Every day brings new clients and bigger canvases.

Free to Play Status:

[x] Free to play

Involvement: I'm the solo developer. I designed and built the game based on my daughter's idea, with a lot of help from AI tools, both for the code and the art. In the future I'm thinking about replacing the graphics with hand-made ones.

Game Title: Cat Caffeine

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5065450/Cat_Caffeine_Demo/

Platform: PC (Steam)

Description:

Cat Caffeine is a desktop companion game where you run your own little cat café right on your desktop! It's designed to keep you company while you're working, studying, or just doing other stuff on your PC.

You can decorate your café, arrange furniture, hire cats, unlock upgrades through a perk tree, and, of course, pet your cats (very important). As your little business grows, you'll unlock new ways to customize your café and make it more welcoming for your furry customers.

Also such things as: in-game phone where you can read reviews and critiques from your cat customers, complete decoration tasks to attract reviewers, and a Pomodoro timer that lets you use the game as a little focus companion while you work.

The idea is to create a cozy little space full of cats that you can enjoy without having to stop what you're doing on your computer.

Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5065450/Cat_Caffeine_Demo/

Involvement: I'm one of the developers (a programmer) working on Cat Caffeine.

Game Title: Ironhearth (heavily inspired by Stonehearth)

Playable Link: https://denondrugs.itch.io/ironhearth

Platform: PC (Windows and Linux)

Description:
Ironhearth is a voxel colony sim about building a small town and keeping it alive. You start with a handful of settlers, plant your hearth in the wild and grow a camp into a capital. Each settler has their own traits, likes, dislikes and moods, plus Mind, Body and Spirit attributes that grow as they level up. Their chibi faces show how they feel.

Assign 20+ jobs: farmers, miners, carpenters, blacksmiths, cooks, herbalists, enchanters and more, each with its own crafting bench. Design houses floor by floor in wood, stone, brick or plaster, then furnish them with beds, stairs and decorations wherever you like. Seasons matter: crops freeze in winter and food spoils unless you store it well.

Danger grows with your town. Goblins, tree folk, dwarfs, stone golems and end-game devils raid you, sometimes with siege engines that breach your walls. Anger a boss and it comes for you after the warning. Equip your fighters by hand from an RPG-style character sheet. Enchanted gear glows by tier and wears out until your blacksmith repairs it. Send parties into winding dungeons for loot. Play alone or with up to 8 players in co-op, with cross-play between Windows and Linux.

The game is in early development, and feedback is welcome!

Platform: Browser (PC and mobile). Android app soon, iPhone and Steam later.

Description: It's a remake on the classic Achtung, die Kurve! where the goal is to simply survive the longest. Some might have tried Curve Fever which is another clone, but I wanted to keep my remake a bit closer to the original in terms of goal and feel. Would love any form of feedback! ❤️

  • Online rounds with up to 30 people
  • Powerups: Some simple, some chaotic. My favorite is Switcharoonie where everyone swap worms randomly.
  • Royale mode: Every 30 min a 30-player royale starts. The losers gradually get's kicked out until finally a 1 vs 1 final takes place.
  • Ranked: 1 vs 1 and 6 FFA ranked
  • Local & offline play: So you can play while flying etc. And you can be many on the same keyboard.
  • Custom lobbies. With a nice QR code to invite people smoothly :)

Playable Link: https://globedraw.gamer.free/

Platform: Web Browser (PC, Mac, Android, iOS)

Description:

Hey everyone!

I've developed GlobeDraw, a completely free multiplayer drawing and guessing game inspired by games like skribbl.io, but with a special twist: Players from different countries can play together, each using their own language!

Imagine playing with friends from Germany, Spain, France, Korea, or China. Everyone sees the words in their own language, so you don't all have to speak English to enjoy the same game.

Features:

  • 🌍 20 languages supported – everyone plays in their preferred language
  • 🎨 2–20 players per game
  • 🎲 Quick Play to join public games
  • 🔒 Private rooms with invitation codes to play with friends
  • ⏱️ Customizable rounds and drawing times
  • 📱 Mobile-friendly – works directly in your browser
  • 🚀 No downloads, no registration, no ads, completely free

The goal was to create a simple, accessible game that brings people together across language barriers.

I'd really appreciate your feedback, especially on the multilingual gameplay, usability, and overall experience.

Thanks for checking it out, and have fun drawing! 🌍🎨

Eight heroes, eight weapons.

Between fights you level up and pick cards: poison, fire, frost, lightning. Twenty-one bosses across four chapters, the Ruins, the Crypt, the Frozen Halls and the Forge: a king made of rats, a knight who throws his own head, a gargoyle that turns to stone.

[Mobile] (Android) I made a fantasy esports manager for Android: draft your team, make the calls live and climb to the world championship

Game Title:Gales of Gods: MOBA Manager is a free management game for Android. You run a club in a fantasy esports world: sign players and staff, draft from 100+ champions in Fearless best-of-five series, and make the calls live while the match plays out on the map. You can found a club in the lowest division and try to reach the world championship.

My part: I'm a solo developer. I designed the game, the simulation rules and the balance, and built it over the last few months after looking for a MOBA manager I liked and not finding one. I used an AI coding assistant for much of the code, and the champion and player portraits were made with AI image generation and then selected and adjusted by me. The music is generated by the game's own code.

It's free with a few ads at the end of each split, plays offline and is in English and Spanish.

I'm especially interested in feedback on the first match: is the tutorial clear, and do the live decisions feel like they matter?

Game Title: 9 Fingers

Playable Link: https://paperlynxgames.itch.io/9-fingers

Platform: Windows, Linux

Description:
I’m making a dark bluffing card game where every round you lose costs you a finger. You play cards face down, claim what they are and decide whether to trust the boss or call his bluff. But he can call yours too.

There are also items and finger bonuses that let you bend the rules. You can peek at the boss’s cards with a mirror or use a bonus to reveal a card on the table.

I’ve put an early demo on itch and would love some feedback before the Steam demo. Give it a go and tell me what you think. Are the rules clear? Does anything feel frustrating or unfair?

[PC] (Web) Skullhold - Strategy MMO RTS

• Upvotes

Game Title: Skullhold

Playable Link: https://skullhold.com

Platform: Web (mobile compatible)

Description: Welcome to the Wasteland. Welcome to Skullhold 💀

It’s been a while since I last shared Skullhold here, so I wanted to post an update on how the game has progressed.

Skullhold is a persistent, hardcore browser-based strategy MMO created for players who miss the golden age of empire-building games. Build your stronghold from the rubble, produce valuable resources, train infantry, construct powerful siege machines, colonise new lands, and fight your way to the top of the leaderboard.

The Open Beta has now been running for a while, and the past few months have brought frequent updates focused on bug fixes, balancing, performance improvements, and polishing the overall experience. The game is getting closer to the point where a full launch can happen, but before then, I’d really like to bring in more players and get some fresh feedback.

You can share your thoughts or report any issues here or through the Skullhold Discord. I also post the latest updates and patch notes there.

I’m keeping an eye out for new testers and will be giving them some bonus diamonds so they can explore more of the game’s systems during the beta. If you enjoy old-school browser strategy games, I’d love to hear what you think!

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement: I’m the solo developer behind Skullhold, and I’ve built the entire game by myself. A solo developer can only catch so much, though, so your feedback, suggestions, and bug reports are genuinely valuable. My goal is to make Skullhold as polished and enjoyable as possible before its full launch.

GenAI: I built this using my web development background, but I used AI to generate the artwork and to help me out whenever I got stuck on complex code. Without it, creating a game of this scale alone would have taken me a very long time.

Description:

Catch junk. Stack blocks. At the same time.

We made Scrapper’s Junk Jam in a weekend for a game jam. You move Scrapper between conveyors to catch junk while controlling the falling blocks in his belly. Clean catches feed your stack. Misses fill the Clutter-o-meter, and that clutter comes back as garbage rows that push the board up. Clearing a line empties the clutter meter and buys you breathing room. You can also charge and throw your hat to knock away pieces you don’t want.

Fair warning: it’s tough as nails. This run ended at 6,878 points with 10 lines cleared. See if you can beat it. Enter starts the tutorial; Escape pauses both sides. When you lose, can you tell what caused it?

[Mobile] (Web) Parole Room: a social deduction party game you play on your phones, around one table

**Game Title:** Parole Room

**Playable Link:** https://paroleroom.com

**Platform:** Web, on any phone, plus a TV or laptop as the shared table (flair added)

**Description:**

A social deduction party game for 5 to 8 people in the same room. Everyone plays on their own phone, which holds your cards and secrets, and any TV or laptop with a browser shows the board. Nothing to install, no account.

You're prisoners digging out over eight nights. Every night your cards say which tunnels collapse, and the table has to work out the safe one together. Five right nights and the wall opens, and the shortest sentence wins. But the Warden cheats: he tampers with cards and slips secret deals to some of you, and whoever takes one starts quietly working against the table. Nobody gets eliminated, everyone plays every night.

Solo? Hit "Play a practice game" for a full game against bots, with the rules explained as you go.

What I'd love feedback on:
- does the practice game make the rules click, or did you get lost somewhere?
- anything confusing on the phone screens

Game Title: Sundown Trails

Platform: Web Browser (no download required)

Description:

Hey everyone!

This is the first game I've ever made, and I'd love to share it with you!

Sundown Trails is a relaxed off-road driving game where you explore a peaceful valley in an old 4x4. You can drive through forests, cross rivers, discover hidden waterfalls, and enjoy beautiful sunsets at your own pace.

You can explore alone or play online with other players.

And if you're looking for something a little different, there's also a Zombie Night mode where you have to survive until dawn!

The idea was to create something simple and enjoyable, where you can just drive around, explore, and have fun without too much pressure.

The game is still in testing, so you might encounter a few bugs along the way.

[Mobile] (Android) Planis Dracoria: a location-based dragon RPG on your real streets. Open beta, looking for players and people who want to shape it.

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm the developer of Planis Dracoria, a free location-based RPG for Android, available in Europe (till i figure out all US laws...). Your real neighbourhood becomes the game world: streets, houses and landmarks from OpenStreetMap are turned into a 3D fantasy map where corrupted dragons, monsters and huge colossi roam.

What you do:

Catch dragons in a short skill-based mini game. There are 120 dragons in 15 families, plus rare epic ones.

Fight undead, beasts and bandits. The further you go from a safe trading post, the more dangerous it gets and the better the loot.

Defeat colossi in turn-based boss fights, where your dragons' synergy skills decide the battle.

Forge your gear from ore and crystals you gather or mine yourself.

Brew potions in the brand new lab: merge herbs on a board into stronger essences. If you'd rather not play the merge game, you can skip it and still get your potion, just with fewer chances of extra yield.

Join one of three guilds, climb the leaderboards and fill your compendium.

Free to play: There are no paywalls and no forced ads. You can watch an optional ad for some shop currency if you want to.

What I'd love from you:

Play it, break it, and tell me what you think. I'm especially curious about:

Is the lab's merge game fun, or does it feel like a chore?

Is skipping it a fair trade?

Is it clear how things work without reading a guide?

How do you like the new, more detailed resource graphics we're rolling out?

And if your head starts spinning with ideas to make the game more fun, please share them. Updates come out frequently, so good ideas can make it into the game quickly.

Requirements: 64-bit Android phone with GPS (Android 9+ recommended). Playable in Europe for now. No iOS version yet.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.coll.planisdracoria

Website: https://planisdracoria.com

Thanks for checking it out, and see you out there, dragon catchers!
